"CONTRARY OPINIONS ON INTERNET GAMBLING VOICED TO HOUSE COMMITTEE"

I read the whole article, but don't really understand it?

What is everyones take on this? I am very interested in the thoughts of members from here.

No one :(

I just wanted to hear everyones take on it, for instance if they thought it was really going to happen, or how long it would take, etc....

The article seemed to go no where, just a bunch of peoples opinions?

This may be all talk and no action by politicians. The issue is not seen as that important as most US citizens are concerned with other matters, such as taxes, war/terrorism, living standards etc.
With opinions a matter for public record though, you could allow these to influence your vote, and make sure they KNOW why you voted for "the other side".
In the UK, the behaviour of politicians has made themselves seem of little importance to the regular UK citizen, with a mere 35% or so of those eligible to vote bothering to turn out. This is because it seems not to matter who gets in, their promises are torn up within months of taking office.

If the UIGEA were to seriously affect the general US economy, something would be done. So far, there is only the threat of trade barriers due to non-compliance with the WTO ruling in favour of Antigua, and this is based on the fact that the ban has carve-outs for domestic online gambling interests (horse racing, lotteries), but bans ALL foreign companies from offering the same. Including Poker in the ban may have more impact, as there is a great deal of money, and TV coverage of big tournaments over here, and the absence of significant US interest will not go unnoticed, and most will just assume US players can't compete at that level, which would be an embarrassment to national pride.
