Hey! I thought only us people in Florida were supposed to have Hurricanes!

You and the kinder ok?

:eek2:
The German Weather Service said the storm was the strongest to hit the country since 1999. The highest winds were felt in the southern state of Bavaria, where gusts of up to 126 mph were recorded.

Schools around much of the country, which had closed early on Thursday, resumed classes, though those in Bavaria and parts of Hesse and Lower Saxony remained shut down, largely because of problems transporting students.

Worst in 17 Years.

This was the worst storm in 17 years to hit England and Wales.
In all, 13 people were killed due mainly to the effects of strong winds. Some parts of Southern England are still without power - a privilege normally reserved for Northern England & Scotland during bad weather.
Much of Europe was also affected. Structural damage was extensive, and worse storms are only seen as far back as 1987, when we had the "hurricane" over souteastern England and France. There was also a severe frontal squall sometime around 1990/91, and it is this that the press are probably referring to in "worst for 17 years".

There may be good news for Pinababy and others, as the weather pattern locked in for much of the early part of the Winter has been given a damn good kick up the jetstream, with forecasts of much colder weather for the UK and Europe, Bryan may even see snow at last! The cold air over the Eastern US seems to have been "used up" by these weather systems, and milder air is replacing it, this may be the kick needed to shift those Ice Storms.

I saw a clip of a airliner taking off over there in ,Austria I bieleve they said.

I WOULD NOT WANT TO HAVE BEEN ON THAT!!!! It came off the ground and crabwalked right away.. must have been about 10 20 deg. Almost made me barf watching it!

Makes me wanna barf just thinking about it. I'm one of those "nervous" fliers. Actually, utter, sheer terror is a more apt description of what I feel when I fly, lol.

So you're not flying down to see me then? :(

I didn't say I don't fly, I do. I just need to be heavily medicated when I do. Translation: pills and/or lots of booze, lol.

Re

Looks like it'll be too warm for snow there... anybody know where the door is to this Nwest ice box, I'm freezing in here :)

wow....

I know my mom always told me to wear clean underwear just in case I was ever in an accident, but I really doubt it would matter. They'd end up dirty if I was in an accident anyways.

Hopefully, back to less abnormal weather next week. The warm air feeding the ice storms is being cut off over the weekend, and it seems calmer and quieter weather for much of the states. Doubt it will get too warm though, high pressure just gives hard frosts in the centre of continents. The desert states may lose their unusually low temperatures though.

Here in the UK the cold spell may only be temporary, with more mild, wet and windy weather later.

Currently, the coldest place in North America is the Kawanake reserve, I have just played at some of the casinos there, and nearly died of hypothermia:D :D

I was over in the UK on business right after those storms in '87 and the damage was extensive, but I can't imagine what 200 kph winds must be like.

I live on a peninsula, and we therefore get quite big winds occasionally, but nothing like 200 kph....and for me 60-70 kph is a really bad blow that shakes the windows and throws things around the garden.

Your storm must have been absolutely awesome, engendering fears that the roof might blow off!

It was pretty wild last night to say the least. Winds at 200 kph :D

Bryan, I know that you live in Germany now but you are still an American right, unless you have denounced your American citizenship and here in the good ole USA we still use the MPH rating so can you please translate the 200 kph to MPH for this dumb American ? :D

Glad to here you and your family are OK though.

The US military uses the metric system - that's where I picked it up and have used it since then. :D

Why is it that I'm picturing vinylweatherman on the local weather channel pointing at a map?
:what:

And yes, we have a forecast for snow here in Bavaria for next Tues and Wed when I'm in London

Did not know that, you have taught me something new.

Man, I'm ready to go back to Lake Tahoe just so I can see some snow this year.
