Brexit - whats the difference.....

Interesting BBC poll here:

Now if you add the numbers together that's Leave 46%, Remain 34% Don't Know 21%

That is a huge margin between Leave and remain.

But you cant really count like that, right?
Those who voted "leave with mays deal" might vote remain rather than leave with no deal etc.
I think most suprising is the 21% who does not know, thats a huge number.

They may say they would rather remain than no deal BUT the question is worded which do you favour most and the first three state leave while only option 4 is remain so in the question they have asked the percentages of the first 3 are for leave so added together they make a much bigger number.

Of course the question is ridiculous because no one would ever be given those options to vote on but when people were asked clearly remain isn't the favourite.

The UK's next Census vote is in 2021 why don't we add the question to the census form "do you want to in the European Union" as the Census is a legal document and has to be filled in we would then know exactly who wants what, there would be no people who couldn't or wouldn't vote and the answer would be clear.

There would be no well 40 million people didn't vote or it's 17.4m out of 70 million it would be the biggest question ever asked and answered.

The EU do not Negotiate. If they have layed down a deal for us to take its either that or nothing. They like to hold nations hostage.

We had a vote ,and we voted to leave. it is as simple as that. whether people like it or not ,that's what is going to happen.

Im just glad Terrorist sympathizer Corbyn isn't the PM because i don't think he even knows what he wants to do,changes his mind like the wind, and with whats going on we need clarity and the labour party lack that in bucket loads.

I wouldn't trust a poll provided by the BBC, very Left-wing and anti democratic just like the EU. Plus how can you trust a organization that has hiding pedophilia for so long causing torment for many peoples lives.

Lets just get on with it and leave. Then the scaremongering can stop and we can trade freely with the world instead of being shackled by out right anti democratic law by the EU.

Bravo, a superb analysis!

I like democracy, and the EU clearly don't.

I don't want to get into a slinging match.Because I've been called all sorts because I just don't like the EU . I still don't get why it's needed.

Remember when the vote was put to the British in the 70s. Everyone was told it was a trade deal. But it's become way more then that, it wants to be one state, controlled by germans...no Thank you.

I voted leave, but the last couple of years (buggered up and caved in to the EU in negotiations) have shown us to be far from the country we hoped or thought that we were. We've been outplayed and outmanoeuvred at every turn.

Our "Parliament" also appears to be populated with idiots, and we're hopelessly divided. Zero confidence that we have the capability to move forward successfully outside of the EU at this point.

Would not personally object to Brexit being filed under the "just too difficult and expensive to do" category, like major DIY house renovations. Sad.

Brexit to me has not only been about getting the country back into some sort of common sense order, but also about the future, passing on a fully functioning democracy to our descendants, so they don't wake up in some sort of quasi dictatorship, where their vote counts for diddly squat, which is the approach/outcome the EU seems to favour and be creeping towards.

It is not an instituition that is increasing democracy at grass roots but the opposite, centralising power in the hands of an unelected few.

Sheesh mack we did this about 60 pages ago. They're not unelected.

Also, who elected Dominic Cummings?

Oh dear oh dear oh dear so we should just give up and sell the country to the EU because you do not believe we can leave, why don't we all start speaking Belgium then or German, we are not under the EU control we are a sovereign country one of the biggest economies in the world and you just want to give up and let unelected Brussels run you and yes Chopley they are unelected did you vote for Juncker or his replacement in April no you didn't.

Dominic Cummings is an advisor he is not the prime minister plus we didn't elect Jeremy Corbyn to hold parliament to ransom and refuse an election.

Belgian is.....French?

I think Boris appointed him as his chief adviser or strategist regarding brexit. And if the british people don't like his advice and yet the PM does, we have the right to vote the tories and therefore boris out, taking cummings with him. There is a democratic control mechanism.

The fixed parliament act has worked against the voter, as it gives power to duplicitous mp's, who signed up to a party manifesto and then as soon as they sat down in parliament to ignore it, and then hold their govt to ransom by siding with the opposition.

[I still stand by my post #1561 above.]

Why not let the EU member state citizens vote on who they want as their president, would be a step to making it more democratic and accountable no?

Who cares who the president is. I mean does he have any power to do anything?
Tusk is doing fine job already. Saying things that need to be said etc.

I was talking about von der leyen, but you could add tusk's role too, to be elected. It's called democracy, living next to the former ussr I thought you'd realise it's importance

Yeah we live next to Russia and we value democracy and our independence. And we don't have a problem with the EU. I don't understand your sovereignty problem with the EU. No one is controlling your country except yourselves. I think it's just your silly colonialism attitude. Where you need to control everyone else or you won't be happy.

@vorcirion
Colonialism attitude? Yeah, half the Country said they would prefer to not be in the EU because each one of them actualy wants to control every other Country.

Where in the fxxx do you come up with some of these conclusions .. lol.
What you talking about Adam, I'm fully in my admiral attire here, ready to join me on some swashbuckling me hearty?

Based on what people keep saying here in the forums. Many brexiteers saying they want their sovereignty back. But they seem to have hard time saying how EU is controlling them or their country. Or could you give me some details about this sovereignty issue? What EU is doing that you're so against?

To me it seems it's just some kind of feeling instead of actual issues.

@vorcirion Many people have different reasons, and sovereignty is a major one (including for me). I agree with alot of what Mack says tbh. I want this Country to keep its traditions, and still be the UK my grandfather and those before him fought to keep for when My children inhereit both that and the 8p bonus balance l leave to them on DOA in my will, many years from now.

But, seriously, you're now actualy suggesting that you came to the conclusion millions of citizens voted because of a colonialism attitude, based on what you've read here. Or is it that you just secretly hate the UK almost as much as you hate the USA? lol

I dont expect you to answer, but I'd be genuinely amazed if you could point out where in "these forums" anyone even remotely gave you that impression.

lol.. I havn't laughed so hard in a while. Cheers.

And I still don't understand how EU is changing your traditions or taking away your sovereignty. I haven't noticed any kind of change here in Finland. We still elect our leaders here who decide how our country is run. Nothing in our culture has changed.

I have nothing against the UK. Sometimes I have plenty against the US depending what kind of leader they have and what they do in the world. UK doesn't do much really.

from reuters 2017:

A total of 52,741 laws have been introduced in the UK as a result of EU legislation since 1990, according to the Legal business of Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals.

EU regulation has influenced a wide range of areas of UK law since the UK joined the EC in 1973. Areas of UK law most influenced by the EU include trade, agriculture, financial services and the environment. Other areas – including employment and immigration – have also been affected.

I think you do have a number of euro sceptics in finland, including that fair looking lady I forget the name of, so there must be somethings they've noticed changing in finland that they don't like etc...

So maybe you can name some things what EU has done to change your country for the worse? How has the EU affected you personally?
This lady is representing the nationalist party here in Finland. Biggest party according to current gallups (thankfully 4 more years to go before they have a chance to gain any power). They get about 21% of the support.
56% of the people in Finland say the EU is a good thing, 29% say it's a neutral thing. 2% don't know and only 13% see the EU negatively.

I knew that request was coming  have you got the 'remainer's guide to debating the EU' by your bedside? :p

Well the EU have affected the british fishermen, caused unemployment and depression in coastal regions, there's probably loads of things, I could research it if it didn't cause me to lose the will to live  but it's also the principles involved, the major one being representative democracy, once you lose it you'll struggle to ever get it back.

What sovereignty really means these days? Any nation's actions is restrained by their interaction with other nations and international organisations anyway. Practicalities of international life.

Sovereignty is a form of politically charged nostalgia, an attempt to give meaning to past freedoms, independence and supremacy. Pretty much not what is used to be.

The nationalist party... that says it all really. We have them too, propagating a Nexit. Fortunately, they are not the majority.

I wouldn't want to see Finland leaving the EU. But we would have a great slogan for it. Fixit. :)

Err because they have told us we can't leave if we take Northern Ireland with us because of the Good Friday agreement which they were crucially part of creating, they insist that there must be no border on the island of Ireland and Ireland must have a say on Northern Ireland, the EU has no right to tell us what to do with part of our country but we have to agree a deal they say and agree to, they also kept telling us they won't reopen the withdrawal agreement like it is their agreement only something they decided on and they will decide what to do with it.

Until we leave the EU we cannot negotiate from an independent view as long as we are still signed up to the Eu's rules and regulations.

Just had this popping up on my newsfeed.

Finally, the whining will stop now! Tara!

EU circles: Brexit agreement is ready

There has been a breakthrough in the negotiations for a Brexit agreement. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker declared, the EU and Britain have come to an agreement. The heads of state and government of the EU examined the draft text at their summit in Brussels this morning.
