Betfred deposit limit loophole

Hi, new member here,

I'm considering launching a complaint against an online casino but wanted to hear what experienced players think about it first if that's ok?

I won't name the casino and they do not have a rep on this site.

A casino I used to play on have a quirk in their deposit limit system whereby if you change from a daily limit of 'x' to weekly limit of '7x', you can instantly deposit more on the same day without a cooling off period. I only noticed this because when you set a deposit limit they send you a confirmation email that explains this loophole. It states:

If you currently have a daily deposit limit of £100 and you increase that to a daily deposit limit of £200, a 24-hour cooling-off period will apply. If you were to change your limit from £100 daily to £1,000 weekly, the change would be subject to the cooling-off period. If you were to change your deposit limit from £100 a day to £700 a week no cooling off period would apply as your limit has effectively stayed the same.

I used this loophole a while back to chase losses, changing my 30 daily limit to a weekly limit of 210 and was allowed to deposit (and lose) an extra £180 in the 24 hr period that I had a £30 limit. A few days later I tried chasing losses again so tried changing my 210 weekly limit to an 840 monthly limit and found I could now deposit an extra £630 in the same week I had £210 limit reached, again without a cooling off period to reflect.

I initially wrote this off as my own stupid fault but now I think about it I should have been protected by a cooling off period when changing my limits in this way.

What do you folks think?

Thanks in advance

I think you should contact the casino right away to prevent any problem gamblers doing this.

Also it would stop any potential people trying to commit fraud by losing and knowingly exploiting this avenue to claim back theirs losses.

I think that no matter what outcome you need some help. Why would you do this? I don't mean to shame you or anything but at some point you have to admit that you have some problems. It's not healthy for yourself man. Take care of yourself and only gamble with what you can afford to lose. The casino's are not going anywhere. If you would have won this topic from your end probably wouldn't even exist despite the loophole.

But to be fair if it can be a loophole here. Then all other casinos would also run the risk that it could also be abused too? Maybe this loophole is doable in a lot of casinos and they are not even aware of it?

This is probably a good thing this post has been made to make casinos aware so they can check their systems. We should all probably tag all the reps and let them all know about this, so they can read this thread and check if their casino also has the same loophole?

Thanks for your reply.

I did message the casino to point this out to them but they say their system meets responsible gambling obligations.

I'm wondering if I have grounds to complain for a return of losses.

Yeah, I agree and have.

I was happily in control of my gambling before noticing the loophole and being tempted to use it to chase losses.

I just don't think a deposit limit system should have this loophole, and I definitely think they should not flag it to their customers in a confirmation email

But to be honest, you look bad all at the same time you are pointing this loophole out, yet you will not name the casino. Then you state your true intentions........... So yet another problem gambler making a thread in the hopes of getting losses back........

Regardless I still think the loophole still needs to be checked in all casinos though to make sure that it can not be abused. If that casino this player found it at is a Curacao licensed casino then of course they would say it follows and meets their guidelines and terms and obligations. But saying that they will probably find a way to say because you made us aware of this loophole and now you are asking for your losses back due to it, then sorry but we will not pay them you back. You used this loophole KNOWING you would claim the losses back on purpose. Which is ABUSING the system.

So thats it, no more posts from me on this now. I made my mind up about this.

I'm a new forum user - I thought I was breaking rules by naming the casino. If I'm allowed to I will.

Apologies if this thread has upset you or if it is one of many such threads. As I said, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to hear what experienced players thought about the situation.

Also, I did not use the system knowing I would claim back losses on purpose. This happened some time back and after getting back in control and talking to other gamblers I think the casino in question failed in their duty to protect their players. I don't see what is so wrong about considering a complaint and claiming losses back in this instance.

I’m afraid not. Not only did you knowingly use this workaround, you documented it in detail in this thread. There is definite intent on your behalf. I know you don’t want to hear this, but your efforts will be better spent on trying to limit or eliminate your gambling altogether.

I hope you stay safe man.

The rules are here - there is nothing about not naming casinos: :D

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding intent, this happened 6 months ago. I certainly did not rack up losses in this way with the intent of trying to claim back the losses months later. I sought help after this event and on reflection do not think I should have been allowed to deposit more than my agreed limit in the heat of the moment. It makes the deposit limit redundant. I was surprised the casino in question did not see an issue when I pointed it out (although they agreed to change the confirmation email wording!), and think they should change it so others can't do what I did.

Hi and thanks for clarifying.

For anyone interested the casino in question is Betfred.

For anyone interested I have made a complaint against Betfred via IBAS to get them to change the loophole in their deposit limit system and to refund losses incurred when allowed to deposit more than my agreed limit six months ago.

I'm surprised that the main response from the forum was to suggest I had found the loophole and used it with the express intention of then trying to claim back losses, rather than the point that one of the UK's biggest gambling companies has a system that lets users increase their deposit limit without any cooling off period.

I'm sure I'm not the only player that has been tempted to or spent more than they wanted to in the heat of the moment, that's why I protected myself with a deposit limit, but Betfred actually send you a confirmation email explaining how to increase your limit without a cooling off period, which I don't think is right.

@TBJ999 probably best just to point it out to them then, but not ask for your losses back to achieve the goal you say you want.

Be honest - what would you have done had you won and made a withdrawal?

I'm not unsympthetic, but admitting to an illness (no shame in that), chalking it up to experience and hitting the Gamstop button would probably be a more honest course of action.
