What i find obscene is for a CEO to pay themselves basically half of the companies profits.

The article also states that she donated £50 million to charity last year I believe and employs a lot of people in the local area so it's not all that bad. They are listed in the Grey Zone here due to their unwillingness to discuss player issues with CM so they aren't rogue. The business wouldn't be making the profit it has if it wasn't for her input. She built the company after all.

Bet365 are shit and I wouldnt trust them. I was a verified customer and had been with them for 18 months. Came on last weekend and my account was closed. They wanted me to send them a copy of my passport and three months of bank statements for proof of income.
The main issue stemmed from an incident which happened a fortnight earlier. I deposited a decent amount of money and instantly placed it on a live bet on the tennis. My bet came through and I instantly requested a withdrawl to my bet365 visa card. Due to the amount there was 5 withdrawl requests for the day. Well they say verifying my withdrawl for 72 hours and after numerous calls they finally approved it. A day later though they sent me a email advising I was on notice that they felt I was not a recreational gambler due to the speed at which I made the deposit and then made the subsequent withdrawl. So because I won and instantly withdrew the funds they were not happy.
I refused to show them my bank statement and they can shove their account up their arse. Its a pity they are a complete bunch of fuckwits as their sports betting products are pretty good but the way they treat their customers is appalling.
The only thing bet365 cares about is making money and any customer who makes any cash they close their account or limit them.

The woman built the business in a Portakabin and you are begrudging her FINALLY taking some money out of the business? This woman up until recently drove a BMW 1 series, she had a reasonably sized house, she has adopted a number of children as she's unable to have her own, she donates millions to charities through her foundation and she works harder than pretty much anyone else I've ever met...seriously catch a grip. If your business was making £500million+ and you owned more than 50% of it of course you'd take a large salary. £217million may sound obscene but she lives in the UK, 50% of that goes to the tax man. Denise has health issues, she could have had bad news and is preparing to give money to her family and children to avoid inheritance tax, which is an obscene tax so is wholly understandable.
I worked there and left with a smile on my face but you can't deny it's an incredible business. That's actually completely wrong, generally about 2-3% of the adult population (so not gambling customers) are problem gamblers. And the vast majority do not gamble and of those who do most have close to zero importance on revenue and especially profit.
And for example in US B&M casinos they account for over 40% of revenue and even higher % of profits. Highrollers and problem gamblers (both groups combined are around 10% of the customer base) account for around 90% of revenue.
That is for casino gambling though and not comparable to bet365 as I would assume that they have significantly lower revenue % from problem gamblers as they have a large product portfolio where the casino is just a small part (?) and a well known brand so they most likely have a huge amount of recreational players . They do hate winners though and almost instantly cuts off smart bettors.
Pure online casinos with a low brand recognition are a completely different case as they wouldn't exist without problem gamblers whereas bet365 would and still be successful.

Problem gambling has been blown completely out of proportion in the UK lately. The actions of a few who steal and commit fraud to fund their habit have of course been brought to light by the UKGC and rightly so, but finding 1 account in amongst many millions in the databases of bet365, Coral, Ladbrokes etc just goes to show that these businesses are diligent and they take their responsibilities seriously. Like most businesses, they operate within the law and rarely do more than is necessary as it impacts revenue. The UKGC is telling them to do more and they're responding, but I do not believe for one second that 'problem gamblers' - IE) those who have actively seeked help account for much more than a few percentage points of revenue at these huge businesses.
VIP's are a different story - those who gamble small fortunes can very often afford to do so. There is a fine line in determining problem gambling - those who enjoy it and probably spend too much and those who can't help themselves are very closely linked. It's always a question of affordability which is what is now being tackled quite fiercely at most operators.
Still, my point stands - attacking wealth and success is bang out of order, especially when you consider the road to get there. Someone like Phillip Green who shifted all of his wealth to his wife who happily lives in Monaco whilst he gets to remain in the UK and conduct his business is a total scumbag - someone like Denise who is as normal as the rest of us is not. Don't believe everything you read in socialist newspapers.

No, I find your comments ridiculous. Why anyone would stick up for this dog of a company is beyond me.
I have mentioned I am in Australia, my comments are based on this country not yours. In Australia Bet365 amongst punters have a ratshit reputation. The main forum site in Australia is punters.com.au and the number of complaints that come through the site against bet365 is alarming. Whats more alarming is the number of complaints registered with the Northern Territory Racing Commission which regulates most bookmakers is increasing on a monthly basis and bet365 tops the list. I have contacts at the commission who have advised complaints are at an all time high.
Bet365 only caters for customers who lose, winning accounts are limited or promptly closed. It has gotten to the point where there have been that many complaints the federal government in Australia is looking at making changes to the way they operate which would prevent companies like bet365 picking and chosing which clients they want. Exploiting the losers and pissing the winners off.
I have said previously in other posts that bet365 was a good place to bet, good betting options and plenty of live video coverage however its the people behind the business that have made it an unethical and unreliable place to bet at. Bet365 is not accredited at Casinomeister, its blacklisted at thepoggg and affiliateguarddog.
You have worked for them previously so no doubt your view point is skewed, as someone who has worked in the gambling industry in Australia I know for certainty that in Australia 35-40% of their profits comes from problem gamblers and not the paltry 2% you spout about which would be complete crap and no doubt a figure that bet365 boasts about.
Personally I hope the Australia government kicks them out of the country.

All high street bookmakers in the UK have restricted accounts, they all do it, they all only want losers especially if you are backing 20/1 shots the night before and they get smashed into 2/1 or whatever and hose up, the only 2 places you can safely play at without fear of being limited is the betting exchanges which would be Betfair which is now merged with Paddy Power and Betdaq which was bought by Ladbrokes a few years ago, they take a small commission off of winnings, so it is in their interest to not start limiting / closing accounts.

Yes I completely agree. Betfair are by far the safest place to bet, although the TAB in Australia is probably the next safest place to bet.
I have worked in the regulatory arm previously dealing with bookmaker complaints from the public so my view point is based on first hand experience. However working for a toothless tiger means the bookmakers like bet365 keep getting away with unethical business practises.

be 46 in decimal or so, 20/1 in fractional is 21 in decimal, just add +1 basically

Yes I know of a few small bookmakers in Australia that also use Betfair for hedging. You do tend to get better ods on betfair although it can be hard to get a bet on if its not a main event particularly in the likes of tennis etc.

It's Denise's company. She can take 500 million if she wants, her salary really isn't anyone else's problem.
My personal account was closed two weeks ago by bet365. I was a losing customer in that overall at bet365 I was marginally down however on the 24th October I made a deposit, immediately rang them and placed a live bet. An hour later my bet had won so I placed five withdrawl's to my bet365 visa card. My withdrawls were verified for a couple of days during which I made numerous phone calls and they were finally approved. I then requested the balance as it was too big to withdrawl to my card to be paid by bank transfer which it was eventually. I received an email a couple of days later saying that bet365 caters for recreational gamblers and they felt my behaviour of depositing money, placing one bet and then withdrawing contrary to their terms and conditions and I was on my final warning. I replied back advising I had obliged by the terms and turned the funds over as required. They didnt like the fact I withdrew it instantly rather than gambling it back.
A day later my account was blocked and I received an email advising I was required to send them copies of my bank statement to show proof of income and further ID, even though I was already verified. I told them to shaft it as I thought their behavior was bogus. I have had plenty of big wins before and most congratulate you for it, they don't close your account. For me, I will never recommend them and I encourage other punters to use other companies such as betfair.

I have the premium charge, I cannot view market volumes, and have a 3 minute delay on prices, although I'm not limited in the strict sense of the word, I am. It is impossible to back or lay in horse races with a 3 minute delay in seeing what price I am going to get, unless I was on track, as even the small delay on racing UK is too much to back blind, let alone the 6+ seconds on atr.

Ideally they should just remove the gambling portion and save everyone of the problem gamblers/losers(read bet365 customers with 100%accounts)..a few good bookmakers still allow winners....take risks they dont need to , to give good punters a chance(think bets that cant be laid off)

Theres a lot more to that story than was in her tabloid sob stories.
Moral of it is, if you are putting bets on for notorious gamblers who are banned/excluded from ALL the major bookmakers, don't go round bragging about it in racing circles, as you are likely to get caught.
I will put money on she doesn't win in court.

Your greater knowledge of the situation has changed my mind though, as her possible health issues and avoidance of inheritance tax is perfectly understandable and sensible. I had no way of knowing any of this from the information I had available to me.

Half of last years profits. A quick check of the business on Companies House shows they have almost £1billion cash at hand - that's money in the bank outside of other assets. But yes, all other discussion aside, I have no doubt she's simply finally preparing herself for the future and maybe even considering taking a step back, who knows. I just find it repulsive that these newspapers plaster these stories over their pages, it's just spiteful and harmful to a persons reputation.
My view is that Denise Coates had the courage, vision, skills and tenacity to create from the ground up, build and then manage a very successful business enterprise over the years.
She and her family accepted considerable financial risk in doing so, using their assets to raise enough money to launch and operate bet365 in a professional manner.
Once successful she has ensured that her Foundation has donated significant amounts of aid to the less fortunate. Both she and the company have paid the considerable taxes due. And they have created job opportunities for around 3,000 people, and business for their suppliers.
I do not know her, but it appears that she does not seek publicity or indulge in vulgar displays of wealth and self-importance, which interestingly much of the media appear to admire as they cover the OTT activity of celebrities.
I believe she deserves to enjoy the rewards flowing from her initiative and the undoubtedly very long hours she has invested in the business personally.
IMO she is the victim of the tall poppy syndrome that appears to permeate the media.

Her business has not enhanced the world, if anything more people are worse off due to her shitty company. Look at the forums online and see how many customers are waiting to be paid. The Australian government instructed Interpol to investigate bet365 due to the shoddy business practises that many Australian customers were effected by.
