Hiya Guys

Im sure the answer is somewhere in here but because of my disability, I am limited to the amount of time I spend at the PC. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere

Question: How does one become an affiliate and what does it mean. I see people talking about getting checks and Im not sure how it works or if it costs anything to become one

If one or two of you could explain in laymen terms what it means, I would be forever grateful!

In laymens terms:

If you were to build a website offering information and articles etc about casinos and gambling (something that would interest your average casino player/user), you can then sign up as an affiliate to a casino program or poker room and essentially promote them. You can install links on you site to these programs and direct traffic (players) to your chosen casino programs, who would then pay the affiliate a percentage of the profits that player makes.

That is the basic versionthere is a bit more to it than that. There are sites that can offer you lots of information and support about this. Take a look at CAP - Casino Affiliate Programs:

www.casinoaffiliateprograms.com

I hope this helps

It doesn't cost anything to become an affiliate but you do really need a website.
(Unless you have 10,000 e-mail addresses you can promote to! :p)

I don't know how much it costs where you are, but you should be able to get a site for under $100/year if you 'shop around'.
I'm a bit worried about your "time on the PC is limited" comment, as time is the one thing you need masses of - unless you are just going to make a "banner farm" site which is unlikely to give the results you want.

When I started my site last year I knew absolutely zero about web design, hosting, HTML or FTP's. I just learnt what I needed when I needed, and yet in just 6 short months I produced the finest gambling portal on the entire internet! :p

As a hobby it's brilliant, but don't bank on making a living from it. For all the 1000's of hours I've invested my return is pretty small - maybe $2-$3 per hour..?

Not trying to put you off, but just keep your expectations realistic.

It's also worth noting that if you're an american and decide to promote online casinos:

1) Get a web host that isn't in the USA

and

2) Be prepared to wait for payments...the delays for USA players are pretty much the same for USA affiliates

Its a very hard industry and takes alot of time, but if you put in the hours which it seems to me your not you can make a living from it but its hard aspecially with the USA out the business. You can find everything you need to know at www.casinoaffiliateprograms.com and www.gpwa.org check them out! PM me for any help on getting started I will be glad to help you.

I tried this as a hobby a while back, and the initial outlay is indeed quite small, however, you are up against hundreds, if not thousands, of sites also promoting the same brands.

If you have little time at the PC, you will need the help of some good "cut & paste" web design software, and possibly a helpful friend.
Once set up, it will virtually run itself as many affiliate programs are now using dynamic banners (which means not having to constantly update the site yourself each time the casino does something new).

There is a small matter of reputation (unless you don't care), and making the wrong impression at the outset can be hard to overcome. Never promote a "bad" casino just because it offers a fantastic affiliate deal, you will get a negative reputation as a "bad" affiliate. Never resort to SPAM, again you will feel the heat, especially on here.
Have some kind of quality control, so that you can keep up to date on major issues that impact the brands you advertise.
I feel that personally written reviews can help differentiate your site from others, this is why Casinomeister, Simmo & Kasino King have had their success.
My own site was aimed at a small niche in the market, UK Fruit Machine players, who were getting fed up with crap games at 70% payout. It has not exactly been a success, and one reason I have been told is that frutie players trust online casinos even less than they trust the Fruit Machines!

I had ONE player, stayed for a couple of months, lost the monthly bonus and didn't seem to return. I made a magnificent 18:D It did at least cover the registration cost for the domain, however it now sees a small loss.
I plan to revamp my site soon & have another go (now that I know more).
I need to get Frutie Players interested again, especially since two of the "competition" have ceased to exist:D

As others have stated, being a casino affiliate involves promoting casinos. If players sign-up through your links and deposit, you may earn a commission. Commissions are usually a percentage of casino win (lifetime loss of referred players), or a fixed amount per sign-up.

You could be an affiliate with a budget of $0. Sites like
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.
offer everything you need to begin and basically make the site for you. However, the more typical approach is to get your own web host, which can cost <$10 month for a decent shared account, and then design your own website. You can find host info and other information about starting a website at www.webhostingtalk.com .

I suspect that most new affiliates make essentially nothing and soon give up. This is especially true for sites that do not offer unique content . However, a small portion of affiliates do very well.

If you are a player and know a lot about online gambling and want to earn a lot of money you may try this business. My very good friend played at different online casinos, he thought he could earn money there, but sometimes he lost, sometimes he won and it wasn't stable. So he decided to launch a website to promote online casinos. And it was one of the best idea ;)

It's much hard to be successful in this industry now.

More competition and poor market since the USA out this business.

If you can get to grips with the website side and have some time, I think there is always room for players to become affiliates using their knowledge to create a unique site with useful information.

Yes it is competitive, but done well and it can work out. The key, I think, is to avoid all the crappy promotional blurb and go for as fresh an approach as you can. A player who has been around the block, played a few casinos, knows the good from the bad, and understands the games is ideally positioned IMO. It's how/why I started...played way too much and thought may as well try and build something up around what I knew and try and recoup some of my money - lol. Worked out for me. Like Bryan says, check out my brief but hopefully useful FAQ page on affiliating here at meister (see Bryan's post for link).

Go for it if you have the time and knowledge...what harm can it do and it really can be good fun :D

If you can build a site that, as player, you always wished was there but couldn't find, you're off to a good start.

Think about what info you would like to have at your fingertips. As player.

It's not the kind of thing that makes you rich overnight, you need to commit years to creating the best information source you can.

Don't fall into the trap of using canned content provided by programs, make sure you are unique.

If you want to do well, you need to invest a lot of time and energy. I am a bit worried about your limited time.

Probably you should do a relaxed approach, read at cap, buy a template or get a free one, get cheap hosting (not free) and play with your ideas.

Maybe you will find it fun, maybe you will hate it, maybe you will find you need a partner who will enjoy the parts you don't.

That is exactly why I started my site.
I got fed up with trawling though mountains of crap looking for the information I needed.
I could not find a site anywhere which gave me the details I wanted - so I made my own!

Although I am an affiliate now, I always think of myself as a player first. Each month my main target is to win as much as possible from playing the casinos, not to get as many sign ups as possible.
As far as I'm concerned it's players v casinos in this game - and I'm on the players side! ;)
Hence all the tips on my site as to how to beat the casinos.
I don't hate them or anything; I see trying to profit from a bonus as a "friendly game" with the casinos - can I out-wit them, or will they win this time? If they win I say 'Well done, you got me there' and carry on to the next game. No hard feelings on my part, and I would hope no hard feelings from them when I win. After all, the odds are stacked slightly in their favour... :p

Thank You

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the valuable information you provided me. If I do this, it will be more for hobby than money because I cant put in the hours.

Ill do some homework and think about what I would want if I were looking for information on a site.

That is the best way to produce something valuable. :)

And since the age of the site has a large influence on the profitability, slow and easy also happens to be the best way to eventually have income from it.

Lots of people start sites to make money quick, and most fail. It just doesn't work that way.

All the major sites were started by players and are more of a labor of love than a profit making scheme.

It still holds true, "if you build it, they will come". The condition is building something useful, and not just duplicating what others have done already.

You have been around for a while and I am sure you have your likes and dislikes regarding online gambling. Lots of others share them I bet, whether you see posts or sites about them or not.

Next time you play, pay attention to what turns you personally on (or off). It's good to start out focussing on one tiny little aspect. You can always cover more territory as your site grows.

Think about whether you want to help newbies or share experiences with old timers. Look at your site as a tool you want to give your friend, and figure out who your friend is in this case.

There are a lot of ways to approach this, the theme that always needs to be there is that you are helping your friends, the visitors. Your site will attract pretty much the people who think like yourself.
