The day is almost here for me. It is 11.29 PM Dec 20th.

New Zealand is already 21st December.

So.....let's just check in during the day so we can know if the world ended and where it ended.

I cant believe that NASA are getting hundreds of panic calls today... it boggles the mind..... That plus that odd little village in Turkey everyone is descending on. Bizarre.

I checked wikipedia, and since my birth there have been over 40 Major ''End of days'' predictions... and I have survived them all perfectly fine. (Though I did end up with a nasty case of the sniffles after Y2K)

My 10 year old came to me last night as said she didn't want to go to school tomorrow, I asked why...she made up a story of not wanting to listen to the other kids talk about the world ending, but in all honesty, I think she is genuinely scared. I may keep her home. Kids minds work differently than ours.

I can´t believe how stupid some people are. Mayans never EVER claimed the world to end to begin with. This is Y2k all over! The only thing that could end this stupid planet is all the stupid greedy people not taking care of it. Next big thing is 2065 they say! I guess some never learn.

If they were going to predict anything, they should have predicted the Spaniards showing up with their European diseases. That was truly the "end of the world" for that bunch.

Gotta hand it to the Mexican Government though...clever marketing... So today is simply the start of a Mayan 144000 day calendar "cycle" but was misinterpreted as being an apocalyptic reference which they used in an advertising programme. And apparently, it's really helped the econony. Love it.

Reminds me of another apocalypse story....


A man named William Miller predicted (through study of the bible) that the end of the world would come some time between March 21 1833 and March 21 1844. I have heard stories that there were as many as a million and as little as 50,000 Millerite followers. In August of that year the end of times date was changed to October 22 1844. The movement spread through the US and to a smaller degree up into Canada. There are unverified reports and stories of followers dressing in white ascension robes and jumping off roof tops, selling off or giving away worldly possessions including their homes and even waiting beside grave sites of loved ones hoping to be reunited when the dead were resurrected by Christ. Many just went insane.

Obviously the Christ didn't return and the predicted apocalypse was incorrect. Many Millerites became deeply saddened and depressed. October 22 1844 became known as the day of "The Great Disappointment." The movement broke into several factions some of which are still quite popular today such as The Seventh Day Adventists and the Jehovah's Witnesses.
