i would just like to show my apriciation for the help i have recieved since joining this forum at the beginning of last yr

things have not gone well for me since entering the world of online gambling

i was drawn to the forum as most are by being ripped off by virtual casino group but hung around to enjoy the topics and discussions along the way

although not a massive poster on here i have tryed to get involved but being a novice i didnt really have a vast knowledge to take part

anyways as a warning to novice gamblers like myself id like to say take it easy as the nice wins are good but the losses can really hurt

i finally took the step to stop my addiction to gambling 4 weeks ago and decided i had to admit i had a problem

i contacted gamcare in the uk were i reside and they have put me on a councelling course to try and sort my addiction out

microgaming have closed all my accounts and my bank has put a block on all gaming transactions

i got to the point were i believe the buzz of winning wasnt enough and i was just playing for the hell of it as i won a nice £3200 in a session and guess what i returned the following evening and blew £2500 away instead of hitting the withdraw button, this money would have given us a good christmas

i know most people on here can control there gambling but suppose i was just one of the many who cant

im glad to say i have been gambling free for 4 weeks now and i have got over the initial urges to drop off the wagon and somehow find a way to gamble and im so proud of myself

the downside of this is sadly i stopped too late and i have lost my house , my partner of 17yrs and any self respect i had

sadly i suppose this happens to alot of people in the world of gambling and im sure im not alone

thanks for all the help guys and hope you all the best in the future

phil

well done! Good luck to you.

Gambling can ruin peoples life. I am a social worker, so I have seen some people who has been ruined by this addiction. It takes some time to recover, but most people has reach the bottom when they decide to seek help. So the future is probably only getting better.

Good luck in all of your future endeavours! Know you are not alone, but you have succeeded in admitting you have a problem and are getting help. A giant step towards a new tomorrow!

You are on the right path Phil. It takes alot to admit you have a problem. And once admitting to the problem, your half way there! I wish you the best, wish you continued success in being gaming free.

All the best,
LH

Good Luck Phil and kudo's for having the strength of character to admit your problem.

As an additinal measure you can download (about $20 )a program called gamblock which will prevent you from accessing anything gambling related on your conputer- helps for those times when willpower is decreased.

Kind regards'Colly

I used gamblock years ago but it messed up other things that had nothing to do with gambling. Had to contact them for instructions on removal. Hopefully they have upgraded and fixed the bugs. Stayed away from gambling for 3-4 years and slowly went back. No problems with addiction.

Good luck with quitting - try to find other things to occupy that time.

Phil,

So sorry to hear about your problems with gambling. You ARE NOT the only one here that walks a fine line. There is no reason to lose your self respect, getting a grip on your addiction takes strength of character.

Losing material things is hard, but you can always get more. Losing a partner is horrible to have happen. But, a partner of 17 years who sees you getting a handle after all those years could be proud of you and stay in touch.

Good Luck and keep your head up.

Congratulations on having the self-discipline to recognise your vulnerability and do something about it, Phil - as you can see from the posts above everyone is supportive, wishes you all the best and admires your courage.

Glad to see software provider and bank are cooperating in blocking any further action, and that Gamcare is helping you.

I wish you a full recovery in every sense.

Hi Phil,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. But I'm really glad you're making the decision to quit.

I've added you to our "Quit Gambling" user group where you are allowed to participate in the non-gambling sections of the forum, but have no access to the main content. If you have any further difficulties, please don't hesitate to contact me.

wow i really didnt expect such nice words to be honest thanks

i was expecting a flaming lol

as the song goes "things can only get better" i suppose but a long road ahead of me

thanks brian also for not deleting me off the forum and allowing me restricted access to curb my temptation to re_gamble

This would not be tolerated here. Indeed, any casino found to be exploiting your addiction would end up tossed into the rogue pit. You have to remember that your details are "out there", and SOME casinos will NOT take no for an answer, and may try to lure you back. If you have had past dealings with the Virtual Group, this is a real possibility.

Even restricted access to this forum may bring on the urges, so it would be better to find a forum specifically designed for those trying to beat this type of problem, and then make the move away from here altogether.

If you have kept "winner screenshots" from your past play, DELETE THEM NOW, do NOT look at them ever again. These WILL bring on the urge.
