David Beckham
Why He's No. 1

Global soccer icon David Beckham became the $250-million man when he (and wife Victoria) moved to Beverly Hills to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS. Between his tremendous talent, English charm, stylish wardrobe, and slick haircuts, Becks is single-handedly making soccer relevant stateside.

No.1 on Top 99 Women list
2007 Resume
Won the 2007 Primera Division championship with Real Madrid.
Voted Britains Greatest Ambassador at the 2007 Greatest Britons awards.
Was named No. 15 on Forbes 2007 list of most influential celebrities.
Began his own weekly TV series, entitled David Beckhams Soccer USA, on the FOX Soccer Channel.
Held the David Beckham Academy in the UK and the U.S., which encourages youth to play soccer.
Rejoined the English National Football squad.

Scored a goal and an assist in his first MLS game, the SuperLiga semifinal.
Lectured a master's class at USC on soccer as a forum for global diplomacy.

Behind the Scenes
A UNICEF supporter since his days at Manchester United, Beckham is now the Goodwill Ambassador with UNICEF's Sports for Development program. He also became a spokesman for the New York non-profit Malaria No More, and participated in a youth soccer clinic in Harlem to support the MLS W.O.R.K.S. (the leagues charitable arm) prior to a game at Giants Stadium in New York.
2007 Manly Moment
Beckham bounced back from being benched at the beginning of the season to lead Real Madrid to their first Primera Division championship in three years.

As a soccer fan, I would opine that his (manliness) almost cost him his soccer career. His free-kicks and corners were taken skilfully and second to none and this is often crucial in modern soccer where you dont get thru too easily against mechanical defences. His celebrity status hampered him and there was a period when he would even miss penalties let alone take good free-kicks. He seems to be back to his old self now but as with everyone else, he is aging and there wont be any improvement in him. Nevertheless, he does look real good on all accounts.

Talented guy, certainly stylish but not truly manly imo - more "new-age" or "metro" man prone to blubbing and revealing his "sensitive side"

I'd class as manly courageous rugger buggers like Martin Johnson, Jonny Wilkinson, John Smit, Percy Montgomery (despite the name!) and many others. The Canadians would perhaps nominate some of those aggressive ice hockey players, and the Americans maybe their pro football players....

If going out to get your face kicked in and roll around in a "scrum" (ahem!) with other men is deemd "manly"...sounds like a simple testosterone surge to me. Theres a fine line between courage, masochism, sadism and stupidity :D

Damn! Thought this was a thread about me.

Nope - we're not in the 1970's anymore Bryan...we all moved on...come with us ;)

don't forget lumberjacks. the competitive athletes as well as the run of the mill commercial tree-fellers. it don't get much more manly than taking down and cutting apart a huge tree with your own strength in the case of an axe or saw, or by using a manly power tool like a chainsaw or a bullzdozer or a pickup truck and towing chain. plus you can use the wood to do other manly things like have massive bonfires, or build stuff out of it, or fashion weapons from it.

yeah db is not a manly man. pink shirts, frosted tips, married to the posh one. maybe if he nailed ALL the spice girls and chose the best one, that would be manly.

i have a friend who is a pro bullrider. he wears a cowboy hat, pressed jeans, and those ridiculous belt buckles everywhere we go. he is a chick magnet. his girfriend says she was first attracted to him because he was a "real" cowboy. not the kind you see in the country western/hip hop bars. i have been to some of his events. some of those dudes are as tough/insane as they come. many, many women at those events. you wont find many dave beckhams in that crowd.

And here I was thinking I would at least make the top 20 :(

David Beckham does nothing for me...sorry girls

Timbaland is a rap singer, he was in Justin Timberlakes video of "Cry me a River" he was the driver....he was out before then, but I think that's when he became a bit bigger in the music business. He and Justin wanted to help out Brittany Spears get her career back on track but it never came about. Hmmm, wonder why :D (he also did a duet with Nelly Furtado.

Roger Federer is the worlds best tennis player of all time.

My picks would be James Spader and Andy Garcia, now those are MANLY MEN....oh yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T-B you crack me up! So funny! Justin Timberlake, we are talking about men aren't we? I love George Strait. Yes, cowboys in tight wranglers will turn any woman's head no matter how old. The whole Metro man thing is okay but not into guys shaving off their body hair. If a guy is shaving his legs with me I am out of there. I watched The Magnificent Seven again for the hundredth time. Steve McQueen was the ultimate man in this movie and I can watch him and wish.

Clive Owen...poofter! - what the hell is a poofter? The ONE guy I like out of the whole list - and he's a poofter!! :eek2:

When my guru was in India he said <sic> you should see these cops on horses riding up the beach, every one looks like a poofter'

Then there is frank zappa... gently brushing his scapular aside... poofter's froth wyoming...'

poof, fluff, ya know?

(so blonde)... thanks Lojo - its been a really long day! BTW: congrats on your awsome "thanks" numbers! I would thank people more - but my browser won't allow on home computer...I have to sneak them in at work..

Evening. i am going to nick everyone I can that 'thanks' me in the the future without substantive cause. The thank matrix will fix itself.

Self imposed exile. love you all. bye
