I am not sure if this has been asked before - probably has - but how do you go ahead to become an affliate and can u expect to earn money at it.
I am not looking fr big mony. I am more or less looking for something interesting to do, and something that will also help me understand the casinos better.
Is there a guide somewhere or will someone be nice and explain where to start?

/Marie

EDIT; this is probably also in the wrong thread but now I do not know how to move it =/

Well, assuming you want to be a casino affiliate through online business, the thing to start with is thinking about what you want to make for your website..

Think of yourself, what are you looking for on a website about casinos? Are you looking for information on bonusses, explanations of different games or perhaps big reviews of online casinos.

If you have an idea on what your website is going to be about, find a nice domain and build the website (either in html or with help from a cms like wordpress). Sign up with the casinos you want to promote, every casinopage has a small link on the bottom of the page that will bring you to it's affiliate program. Put the banners up and hope people will click through.

Getting the traffic to you site might be the hardest part. Because it will be hard to get decent rankings in google. This is the part you will have to read about online, how to improve your website so that google likes it better, going after longtail keywords instead of "online casino". Plus there will be a lot of waiting involved.

Perhaps you could do someting in swedish, since this is likely to be a less competative market that the US or UK for example.

And if all works well, yes you can make decent money.

Hi Marie,

This is exactly what I did a few years ago - it's as much a hobby as anything else, but after about a year it started to bring in some money

I think the main thing is to do a lot of research to begin with and learn from others' mistakes by using a forum like GPWA

It does take a lot of time and effort. There are loads of skills to learn to get earning money, like web design, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, html coding, content writing, but it can be done.

Maybe a good place to start might be with a simple blog? - get yourself a domain name, upload Wordpress, make a nice design and blog away for a few months coming up with interesting articles that people want to read, put some affiliate links in the text and see how you like it...

Hiya: There is also the old fasion way. Flyers...........

Many years ago, i was an affilate with captain cooks casino. I made flyers up, and put them on Cars in the parking lots at the Casino's here in Vegas. Even placing an add in the paper, with your url listed.

imhop, Respect is important. The best way to get that respect is to actually PLAY at the Casino you are an affilate for. Nothing works better than waving a check stub in their face, and saying, "See, they pay you, you can win, i win, and so can you". The proof is in the pudding so to speak.

What would this mean for someone in the USA? Since online gambling is under such scrutiny here......would one be able to do this if they are a USA resident? (pardon my ignorance....but i really dont know the answer)

Yes they can.
Some of the biggest affiliates on the net are US based.

Unless you have some magic formula which enables you to hit the ground running attracting good solid relevant traffic, don't expect to start raking in the $ overnight.

Any webmaster will tell you that to become a full time affiliate webmaster takes a lot of hard work and many hours stuck in front of your PC.

However if you enjoy the industry you will find it is a great job, whether you aspire to do this full time, or are content being a weekend warrior webmaster.

For info, regarding myself. I set up my first affiliate site on 18th August 2004 and it wasn't until the following year that it started to produce an income. Thus I had to take the gamble and decide to work on my sites full time in August 2005 - resigning from my position at Ladbrokes. Otherwise major conflict of interest.

I am glad to say though the gamble has paid off and I have been very fortunate to meet a great bunch of people who work in this industry. From casino managers, fellow webmasters and players.
