Would you Gamble if you had to use a Video cam?

Hiya. As we start to see more and more dissscusion on Amerca, or certain States in America, maybe wanting to enter the On Line gambling world, I thought this would be a good topic. It is based on the MAIN Objection from several years ago, when Las Vegas thought about it.

"How do we know the person at the Keyboard is of legal age to gamble"?
This is different from, "How do we know if the person who created the account was of legal age to do so"?

It is like going to 7-11 with your kids. You buy some chips, cookies, BEER, coke, and a couple hot dogs. You show your ID to the clerk for the beer purchase, pay and leave. But what if the clerk followed you outside, and was following you home? You ask him, "Why are you following me"? He say's, "I need to make sure, YOU are the one going to drink the BEER, and not the Kids".

This is what the Opponets of On Line Gambling want. It is not enought for YOU to prove you are of age to open the account, YOU have to also PROVE, that you are the one playing the account, and not under age kids. This means the use of a Video Cam, that shows, "YOU", the account holder, at the keyboard, and no body else.

So, imhop, "I" think it is the account holders responsibility to ensure no one else uses the account. Kids as example. However, Nevada/Las Vegas had it made very clear to them when they heald hearings on this many years ago, That it is the States Responsibility to ensure this, and not the account holder.

So, what say ye? Would you play on Video Cam? I would. However, at the hearing it was assumed that most people would not want to do that.

Its absolutely the responsibility of the person who opened the account to keep it unavailable for others (minors) to use. The casino has no responsibilty NOR any right to check up on you.

My grandparents used to take me to Ak-Sar-Ben racetrack in Omaha starting when I was fourteen. They used to send me to the window to make the bets and to the bar area for beers and frozen daiquiris. I wasn't carded once. I went to UNLV, and was never carded in a casino or a liquor store.
The camera idea won't work because some kids just plain look older than they are.

Hiya: Swampwitch makes a great point. This is why stores started the, "If you look under 30 yrs old, we will ID you if you buy Beer". policy. I remember watching the hearing about this many years ago, and it was going into the facial reconition technoligy area.......

I guess my point is this. So far, all disscusions have been In-House. That being the Politicians. If it ever gets even remotly close to a vote, and then close to States being to do this, it will not happen without Public hearings. I do not think the people in Kansas are verry different from the people in Vegas. Their will be the same issues coming up. The same objections coming up.

And i also think a new objection will come up. UnLike buying a lottery ticket, and having funds go to schools as the reason there is a lottery in the first place, Gambling on the Internet will bring in more taxes. But it will NOT, for the most part, create JOBS.

And we all Know, that some people, will lose their money, get pissed off, and here come the XXX video for the casino to watch............

all the land slots have a built in camera or one in the ceiling so they're already doing it unknowingly I supect.

I know this to be 100% true as several years ago I lost a $300 slip and they checked the slot play history with the video to see it was me playing at time of the cash out.

They gave me the $300 once they found it was not cashed yet. an hour later I found the slip stuck to my leg so I tore it up and tossed it in the trash bin. I did tell floor person what happened.

This summer my friend won a $3200 jackpot and they made him stand off to one side of the machine to get him on camera.

I was actually going to post a while back that it might be a good idea for web cams to be used to verify documents for players that had them to speed up withdrawals and to eliminate any unclear faxes.

I don't think webcams but biometrics will be the future of most ID procedures but not totally in my lifetime. ATM manufactures now are working on a system where you scan your finger print and then run the transaction instead of inserting a card and entering a pin #.


Same will probably be with computers and the internet someday. The tower will scan your finger print or whatever to make sure the correct person is accessing said computer and internet. Maybe a camera will scan your retina?


Anyhow the data from the scan will show the ID data of the user but things are a long way from this.

I voted "Only at account creation". One of the pleasures of gambling at home is not having to get dressed. I've already had to produce a photo of me holding my ID for one casino, and I've provided that to a couple of other places since then (unasked).

Someone mentioned BM casinos have cameras, I am already in the public eye when I am in a BM, my home is my home and I should have the right to privacy there.

I live in the UK, one of the most spied upon nations in the world these days with cctv cams everywhere. But I doubt this kind of thing would be implemented here...at least not for a very very long time.
But if it ever was introduced for online casinos it would only open the floodgates for it to be implemented for other 'adult' pastimes.
Yes...you know what I mean...think of having to be on cam every time you were watching porn. Being watched ''drinking my milk from my cereal bowl or picking my nose'' would be the least of my worries.

the problem is this wouldn't even fix a problem. there are numerous programs where you can emulate a webcam and have it simply loop an existing video or animated gif. therefore tech savvy underage would-be gamblers could pretty easily circumvent this form of protection. more trouble than it is worth imo.


that being said i wouldnt mind playing on a cam if need be.

I gamble at home to relax and just have a good night. When I go out to the casino I fix up and dress up and have a night out on the town..
I would not like to be filmed in my home, at all - for no reason!

Giving this some more thought, I would like to see a webcam of the casino offices.

I want to see a busy live chat, support emailing or answering phones, an accounting department where people are actually processing withdrawals, management in the office assisting players with escalated issues, etc.

That's never going to happen though...
