Here is my little rant..

I sat down at my favorite 15 line machine. The normal bet is anywhere from 30-75 cents. I play 45/60. Its fun. Theres 8 of them in the whole place, and the machine is fairly busy. They happened to be fairly busy on Monday afternoon, when a husband and wife sit down. They put their players bonus cards in, pull out some money.. and slip in one dollar each. My blood began to boil.

.. What did they do next, you ask? Played 1 line / 1c. And spun. And Spun. And Spun. If they got up to $2.00 they would cash out.

At one point I heard her say "I'm down 3 dollars today".

Excuse me?

3 dollars?

I'm down $250, and you're having a -bleep-ing coronary over 3 damn dollars?

And you'd think that would be the end of it. But noooo. They sat there for FIVE HOURS playing 1c / 1line. If the husband was feeling reckless he upped his bet to 3 lines. I wanted to scream at them, they were taking up two machines for five hours while everyone else stood and watched in disgust.

CANT THESE PEOPLE STAY HOME? THEY SPENT MORE IN GAS MONEY GETTING THERE!!!

If they wanted to use their money more efficiently, they could have shoved it up their.. You get the point.

Am I crazy? Would this bother anyone else?

-CK

In my opinion, you are out of line in asking them to stay home. If they want to low roll and not risk losing large sums, that's fine. Taking up a desirable machine for 5 hours is a different matter, one that should be the casino management's decision.

I have had the same thing happen to me. Machines I wanted to play that someone else was playing at minimum bet. And yes, it has PO'd me.

However, they had every right to play that way if the casino had no problem with it. Maybe that's all they had. Maybe that's all they had and they wanted a little relaxation. 5 hrs of fun on $5, can't beat that. I know that at Shreveport/Bossier City LA casinos I have seen older people come for the day with only $20 and they had more fun than I did with 100x that.

Just have to put it in perspective. :D

Hope for Low Rollers

Hey, it's nice that they get out and gamble within their budget. Older people often have to give up some other vices that are bad for their physical health, or travel that is beyond their health.

I like someone is winning the casino's money. If they are regulars, I bet they've lost more than they win.

At Casino de LacLeamy (Quebec, Canada), the only time I every saw someone hit five wilds on Little Green Men was an elderly gent betting 1 line @ 5 cents (no penny machines then). It was $250, and I could not have been more pleased for him. He was very happy, and I am glad to see that those top prizes do go.

No sour grapes, your turn will come. And I've bet you've won more than $3.00 once or twice. I know I have.

Hey, I can complain here cant I? I don't think it's fair when about 99% of the other players who play that game play at least 15c. They continued to complain when they didnt win, and it was irritating. The worst part is that
What would have paid me $93.75 paid them $2.50. On multiple occasions they had would-be winnings of over $50 but because they werent playing the basic lines, they won nothing. To me, that's horribly annoying.

Hey, I can complain here cant I?

But of course! I don't think anyone was saying STFU, they were just saying that they didn't really agree with you ... which is pretty much what you were asking in the first place, no?

By all means complain away, but don't forget that others might have a different take on things.

my dad is 82 and i try to be( the good daughter )and take him and my mom to tunica atleast once a year, we stay at the resort(comped rooms) and meals and they have a grand time playing, they are retired and on a fixed budget and dad has alot of trouble walking, so he will sit at one machine and maybe play at the one next to him, my dad said last time we went im gonna put 20.00 into a slot and play 1.00 max bets for once, to see what all this hoopla is about....well a picture says it all.................this is my favorite pic of my dad in what would have been 10 months of s.s checks to him , i plan on taking him and some of my elderly aunts and uncles soon as they deserve to get out also and have fun:D.............10k is what he won:D

My Mom could very well have been one those people your speaking of. She would ask the change lady for change for a dollar ( I would tell her the machine will take the dollar ) she didn't play the whole dollar she played .50 and was done.:what: I use to get a little embarrassed but she never said anything about the 100s of dollars I was losing so I made it a point not to call her cheap.

Yeah, they're allowed to do it and it's fine if they want to... But yeah, for an ardened slotster, it's damn annoying to watch!

I'd have to go to the other side of the casino and play something else... Let them get on with enjoying their 'Kasinokinging' :D

If these people were rolling any lower they would have been at a complete stop. :p

If they bother you, don't watch them. They are not holding a gun to your head, are they? I think they should be applauded for gambling responsibly, within their budget.

Fancier casinos have high limit slots where you don't have to deal with hoi polloi.

I play $500 a spin and it really bugs me when some twat is betting $1 a spin or $3 a spin and hogging a machine. I mean what are they thinking ?
Betting such measely amounts. I wipe my ass with $1 bills myself.

..brutal, im so shocked you could say such a thing:mad:there are so many people that cant afford that amount a single spin. one of these days you may be one of those elderly or down on your luck people and it will come back to bite you in your ass, mark my words!!!! .toilet paper is so much better and cleaner btw ..................laurie

Brutaldeluxe,

I guess I am one of the, I'll change it to twits, you talk about. I don't know about UK casinos but in the US at $500 a pop, you wouldn't be seeing us penny players.

Be thankful you and CasinoKidd can play large amounts per spin. Some people can't. But it is within their rights to play wherever they want. If casinos didn't want low rollers, they wouldn't make penny machines with a 9 line minimum roll. :D

EDIT -- I posted my this message before seeing BrutalDeluxe's reply.

I expect that BrutalDeluxe was being sarcastic... in different words:

I see guys like CasinoKidd all the time... wagering a few dollars per spin and complaining about losing $250... that's not even enough to pay for plane fare?! I only bet $1000 per spin out of my kids' college funds, and your having a coronary over $250... What the hell?! Can't these guys stay home. They've got to be the "worst gambler ever!"

I guess americans and sarcasm dont mix ! :D
.......i knew you had to be a good egg;) i guess some of us with elderly parents kinda take this to heart, i know i do and if it gives my folks a little pleasure to spend 20.00 on one lousey slot and make it last them all day long, betting pennies a line then im happy for them or anyone that can get out to enjoy a land based casino, can you imagine how many elderly are being conned by some of these rouged online casinos, it makes me shutter to think as they are the most helpless sometimes.......................laurie

If nothing else, this is another reason why online casinos should be regulated in the US.

What does a land casino have to do with regulating online casinos in the United States, Do you live in the United States. and what do you have against people gamling online?

That was exceptionally rude? I never said anything about wagering a few dollars a spin. Nor did I say anything about complaining losing money. Lighten up dude.

In retrospect, I should have left your name out of the post and made it general. I was trying to make the post variations of your statements ("I'm down $250, and you're having a -bleep-ing coronary over 3 damn dollars?... CANT THESE PEOPLE STAY HOME? THEY SPENT MORE IN GAS MONEY GETTING THERE!!!" ), not make it personally apply.

If online casinos were regulated in the US, the following possibilities would help avoid the situation encountered by CasinoKidd:

1. People who bet 1 per spin could play online at home without having to worry about irritating other patrons

2. People who are annoyed by those who bet 1 per spin could play online at home without having to worry about their favorite game being occupied by a smaller-stakes player

I have nothing against online casinos, I am in favor of legalization and regulation. I'm not sure why you interpreted my post in a way that suggests I am against online gaming.

lol... I agree... it is ridiculous when that happens, and very frustrating. One would have to seriously consider the mentality of someone playing those stakes (surely you can't justify it by simply saying 'i'm not a big gambler'... i mean, minimum bet and they just shouldn't be playing)

Still, you can't tell them off for it, so the best you can really do is laugh at them behind their backs!

I can identify with CasinoKidd's rant. Virtually the same thing happened to me in Macao. I was with Spearmaster and my wife at the Star World Casino, and after searching high and low, we found two IGT machines (Gems). Planted in front of them were two women who were playing one line at a penny a shot (Hong Kong pennies ). I was thinking "no no no - bet max, bet max!", but they just kept playing their pennies and chit-chatting for about 10-15 minutes. I was ready to pull my hair out.

And ha ha on me. When they finally left, I deposited $50 and lost it in about three minutes.

I don't think CasinoKidd is being judgemental about it - I think it's a natural reaction to the vicarious experience we have when watching others do the opposite of what we might do. It's just like hanging around a lively roulette or craps table in Vegas; we feel joy when we see someone win - and get whacked out when you see people doing something silly (the Chinese players in Macao have money to spend - believe me :D).

As gamblers, we often project ourselves into other's gambling experience.

It's like going to the Oktoberfest and watching some big beefy guy sipping a liter beer using a straw. What the hell is that? :D

What drives me totally bonkers is when the Wheel of Fortune JP is waaaay up there... all machines are full, people are waiting to play for a chance at the jackpot. And there's this person sitting at one of the coveted machines playing one coin per spin. WHY?? They won't get the progressive JP even if they get all the symbols, they can't even play the bonus 'spin' feature unless playing full coin. Usually the payout percentages for a system wide progressive are horrendously low (except for the lucky sod that actually hits the jackpot).... I mean, if you're going to play one coin per spin do it on the Wild Cherry two rows over. Please!

LOL Rant over. :D
