Who's most famous person you have met?

I once ran into Norman Wisdom whilst playing the fruit machines up & down the M6. He had lost his keys, and some of us broke off from our play to help him find them. They were quickly tracked down, in the Gents loo I believe!

He wasn't impressed by all the fuss, especially the shouts of "Look! It's Norman Wisdom". This was in the 1990's

A recent TV documentary revealed that he loved to drive, and often came down the M6 to visit friends and family. He didn't like too much fuss, which explains why he was agitated after having mislaid his keys. He would have been stuck there had they not been found.

1. The "rock" group Slaughter. Ahhh, I was so in love!!! Two of them were really cool, one of them was a typical lead singer snob, and the other one wasn't there.

2. Almost Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, she was doing a movie in our area, they frequented a certain restaurant, but we never did get to see them. (don't like Tom now, but back then he was ok)

3. The Mayor to our town. :D

Steven Tyler and the band in Barcelona (a few years ago...got an autograph for my son..great excuse:D)

Lindsay Wagner (years ago in Mexico)

Barry Manilow (many,many years ago)

Robin williams in a NY deli after shooting the Fisher King. He was so cool and calm as the store clerk was screwing his order up. It was his nanny at the time who was ordering and then she became his wife ;). He just stood there with a smile on his face and I was the only other person in the deli all I could do was watch him sideways as I was shy. LOL. He was so cool.

Michael York passing in NYC. He smiled at me as I was chasing after the little boy I was nannying at the time.

OH! and when I was a housekeeper in Upper Broadway , NYC the owner of this brownstone rented her apartement for two days to film (I can't remember the name of the film) but I met a couple of famous actors who were meditating in the dark..lol...until I switched the light on and they were cool, too...but for the life of me I know their faces but could not put a name to them...they were so kind and polite and not full of themselves...but it's a shame I can't place their names.

Hmm, even though in sweden I have actually run into some celebs. The "biggest" I have met was probably Bono from U2 though =)
Ones I also ended up partying with a boyband called westlife - had a blast ;)

Richard Branson, Bill Wyman and Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves). That's pretty much my entire roll-call of famous people if you exclude the Casinomeister :D Oh I was in the same class at school as the golfer Jamie Spence and the UK TV presenter Nick Knowles if that counts LOL.

Lindsay Wagner (years ago in Mexico)

I absolutely loved her years ago on The Bionic Woman" TV show! Never got to meet her though and now she does commercials for mattresses or something. I was sorry for her that she was reduced to that level.

Back on track.....

I met and had coffee a couple of times with Janis Joplin in SF in the late 60's to early 70's. She was one of a kind and a giant in the music industry. She really was not as crazy or "off" as her public persona suggested. She got screwed up because of her insecurities. I loved her music. Still listen to a CD of her best songs.

Maybe she really sleeps on that mattress and it changed how she slept for the better? Maybe that company pays better than whatever she was being offered? Maybe she's a bitch in real life an no one in tv or movies can stand her. Sorry...lol...just coming up with some ideas. I wish I could be "reduced" to that level. ;)

Hey, at least she's not Susan Summers, she really bugs me...I went out and bought that thigh thing years and years ago...LMAO, it hurt my legs, not from the workout, the actual thing hurt my legs....never used it more than once or twice.

OMG...I love "Me and Bobby McGee"...I wish I could have met her! I was 16 and driving down the highway (long story..ran away from home..parents knew by this time..was on my way to Arizona to visit my god-mother)....anyway...I'm singing that song at the top of my lungs!!! She was AMAZING!!! Oh, and Mercedes Benz,,,I loved that one too...I still listen to her once in a while:thumbsup:

being in the houston area we see lots of celebs , mostly at the land based casinos. i have met THE FORTUNES. they are singers. i watched them for a solid week at the land base casino. i knew there complete dance routine and moves. after a week they came up to me and shook hands and gave us a 8x10 autographed photo of the whole group. it was nice. my husband has talked to BRAD PAISLEY. he was stoping in a club doing promotions. anyway i have a 8x10 with his autograph on it too. theres others but thats the ones that come to mind. never met a movie star though. only singers.

Haha, I am at my parent's home. Nicole Kidman's and Keith Urban's home is a minute away in the same small subdivision. The late Conway Twitty spent 3 years or so building a new home 3 or 4 houses down the street also but he passed away before ever moving in. His widow did move in and does still reside in the home afaik.

Nashville and burbs has way too many to mention and being a small town you will meet quite a few. Most are not treated as famous nor do most desire to be treated as famous.

That said, if I had to pick the "most famous person" that I know on a first name basis it would be Al Gore (did not vote for him) who resides one home away from my Aunt whom was friendly with the Gores long before they moved back to Nashville. Last I heard, Tipper was in Cali. but really do not know!!

At the risk of being accused of self-promotion, I will answer the question and provide some history and personal background. Off-topic for a slots/casino forum, but the questions was asked about famous encounters so here are my comments.

I have played live poker for over 20 years including a lot of tournaments all over the country. One of the great things about poker tournaments is that all the seats are drawn randomly so there is always a mix of the famous and not so famous at each of the tables. Through poker I have met and become friends with many that are now famous; Mike Sexton recommended me for a documentary that was made by the Travel Channel in 1999 filming me as I played in the initial Tournament of Champions and later aired many times over the next few years. Mike became a good friend well before he became a TV personality for the World Poker Tour. Mike was inducted in the Poker Hall of Fame last year and is a well known poker pro. Greg Raymer (Fossilman) WSOP Champ is also a friend through poker and I was one of the original investors he pulled together to help fund his run at tournament poker that obviously ended very well for him when he was crowned World Champion. Phil Hellmuth is a fellow Wisconsinite and we played together several times before he became a WSOP champion and earned the well deserved moniker of "Poker Brat". Daniel Negraneau, Jen Harmonn, Doyle, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher and others were people who I spent lots of time with over tournaments and meals. The new young players

Outside of poker I have encountered many celebraties during my business travels. Due to being a frequent flyer I am generally upgraded to first class on most flights. I have shared a row in First Class with famous seatmates such as Nicole Kidman, Hank Aaron, Lonnie Anderson, James Woods, Vince Van Patton (also a poker player), Paul Hornung, Ted Thompson current GB Packers General Manager, Bart Starr, Jerry VanDyke (another poker player), and Hank Williams Jr.

Probably more, but this old tiring brain can't think of any more right now.

FWIW.

It's not off topic at all...you are in the "attic", we all talk about other things here besides gambling. There's an "introduction" for lack of a better word on top of this section.

Hey Mr. Spelling Master :p....I grew up listening to Conway, when one of his songs come on the radio, I will know it word for word and sing it..brings back being a kid with my dad. Dad is still here, I see him everyday, but the memories of being a kid listening to Conway are the best!

I totally adore Hank Jr.!!! I put his CDs on high to get away from the every day BS. His Dad was a great old time country music singer but Hank crossed the boundaries and ended up being much more than "just" a country music singer.

Dianne, you make me wish I had gotten interested in poker rather than slots. :p I would have loved rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous poker players! In fact, they might have been able to teach me the ropes. I never could manage to play "with optimal impact" on the card games.

Daddy G from Massive Attack was an old school friend of my boss where I worked in the mid 90's. I came back from lunch one day to find Daddy G sitting at my desk. :eek2:

Ruth Madoc is the mum of one of our friends, and we have met her several times. Her husband was also the toastmaster at our wedding.

For those into music, I have had a drunken conversation with Alex Paterson from the Orb. Back in the nineties where he was at the same gig.

John Peel at the Royal Festival Hall in 98, watching the England vs Argentina 2nd Round World Cup Match. He was sat two rows in front of us.

Oh yes and I have met City Legend Gary Johnson :D

I have lived in Houston all my life and I just have to ask.....what land based casino in Houston?!?!?! No casinos in Texas!

On topic.....I have never met anyone famous, but I find it hilarious (and a bit disturbing) that both my parents have met John Holmes:eek:

Wow, this is sad. The only person I've met was a soap opera actor - Justin from Days of Our Lives. Wife wanted to see him. He was signing autographs at PetSmart, why there I have no idea. Think his autographed picture is packed away.

Jod,
It was a lot of fun for a long time, but I got burned out. Too many punk young kids who trash talk and only know poker from what they have seen on TV. Only poker I play now is online at Pstars and usually just tournaments to avoid the "teams". VP and slots lots more fun/relaxing.

Thanks, I hadn't checked what "area" I was in, before I answered. I usually just hit "new posts" and don't pay much attention to the area that it belongs to.

Stephen King is probably the most famous person I've met.

Emperor Akihito sat with our crew and sang Irish tunes in our local when he was a university student here.

Prince Mustapha Zahir (of Afghanistan) was a friend of mine for quite a number of years when he resided in Kingston.

The most famous person I've been close friends with is Tanya Huff, a very dear friend from high school (she threw me a surprise party for my 17th birthday). For those who don't know the name, she's the author of the books the TV series Blood Ties is based on, as well as quite a number of others.

Also, the Tragically Hip are from my home town, I know all the members.

Dan Akroyd lives here as well.

Once got to evesdrop on the late Gilda Radner and Bill Murray bouncing ideas off each other on the stairs of a downtown hotel they were staying at, my then boyfriend was front desk clerk, phoned me up to come down late late at night.

Worked in the law offices of Peter Milliken, long time Speaker of the House for the Canadian Parliament, and would fill in for his secretary when she was off.

The Queen, many years ago when I was at an agriculture college in Berkshire and we were doing some preparation work at Smiths Lawn for a forthcoming horse event, we had a brief chat about Antirrhinum`s, lol I was so nervous I was spurting incoherent bull crap, but she was/is a very nice person indeed ;).

I met Alice Cooper when I lived in Phoenix. I walked up to him and said, "Anyone ever tell you that you look just like Alice Cooper?" He laughed and said, "Yeah, I get that a lot."

When I was a teenager I was a cashier at a gas station and Ben Wicks came in - those of you who aren't Canadian probably won't know who he is.

Oh and if you saw "A Christmas story" with the little kid who wants the pellet gun for Christmas? I sat at the next table in a restaurant to the guy who played that kid. Peter something....

The most famous person I have ever met is Bryan "The Casinomeister" Bailey.

While at one of his parties I was introduced to and shook hands with some black guy I didn't recognise, but later I was told he was Montel Williams...
Is he more famous than Bryan?
