OK, OK, I know changes are afoot and there will be teething troubles etc. but I have a few constructive points here:

1. I just thanked a post from Simmo and like one of Jon's earlier once pressed the button the page just went white and stalled in my browser. I had to reload from the CM link in my favourites as recycling the page it stayed blank.

2. That sidebar of faecebook/twatter/print buttons is distracting as it's far brighter than the rest of the forum and in the corner of your left eye when typing or reading - put them up the top somewhere?

3. I can thank people again but somewhere I lost a chunk of my total thanks and none have been added to my total for weeks now. Not a huge concern but if it goes on too long you will have people eventually who have contributed less overall ending up with more rep points etc. than long-timers!

4. The 'like' button say on the winner videos - if you press it while watching the video/window will reload and you'll lose your place and have to play it again. Didn't do this before!

Anything I've missed so we can help admin with any issues?

I personaly would like to have the fb,twitter sidebar removed or at least place it somewhere else.

The thank you button can be removed as well, too much circlejerk.

You used to be able to see who Thanked who on same page as the post...all the names in different colours....now not as many thanks as before...is it me...but it seems there are as not many likes or thanks ...

.I think the like and thank button as they used to be were great....now when I go like or thank someone's post....I have to make sure I'm not hitting anything else in that space cuz it its tiny...I am on a iPad....anyway....I agree with dunover' s post from some time ago...if it ain't broke why try to fix it....

For me, the forum works like it used to. No problems at all.

The social network buttons/links are not visible to me. Since I'm not a fan of any of them, I just usually have links, widgets or scripts related to them blocked. NoScript is great for this; it doesn't break the function of the site, but blocks unnecessary scripts (which I have no need for).

I've turned off the side bar script for social media in the forum. As for the thanks, I don't think it has properly imported the old thanks. I'll be looking into this either later today or early next week. :D

Thanks and get thanked...who cares. Get rid of all the buttons. We are not children...are we?

Actually I like them because it stops threads being filled up with posts saying things like "+1" and erm, "thanks" :D

Irony...:D

I would thank you for this but I'm using IE and the buttons still don't work with my combo of IE + Win10 for whatever reason. :p

You may be onto something a I have constant aggro and use win10.1 and IE.

We certainly DO need the thanks button!

I was brought up to show a little respect and a little gratitude, so If I post a request for help or whatever and another member(s) take time to respond, the least I can do it take 0.5 seconds to click 'Thanks' and show that I appreciate their time etc.

The 'Top Thanked' (in past 30 days) has been missing from the forum home page for a few weeks now, no biggie as far as I am concerned but maybe 'having your name up in lights' means something to others, maybe its useful for directing newbies and reps etc to more informed and active members (yes this can be a PITA appreciated but does have its positives also)

When a member(s) gets a 'useful post notification' - you could click on the post #/number and it would take you to your post which had been thanked or rep points awarded for, now it just redirect straight back to forum home page.

On a lesser important note and something which winds me up (Trivial and I shouldn't let it, but it does :p) We all like to share our winning screen shots and videos etc but there are certain posters in these threads who seem to think they are too good to appreciate other members hits and that they should be liked, respected, bended knee etc and are too good to 'like' others efforts.

Just to let these guys know You will NOT be charged or ridiculed or thought any less of for taking a nano second to click like on a big hit which is NOT ONE OF YOURS! - Honest you won't

Have a great weekend all

You can thank (pun intended) the superfluous 'like' function for that, it has kinda ruined the balance.

The way I saw it before, if I agreed with someone, whether it be a joke or hardcore political issues I'd use the 'thanks' feature as a sign of acknowledgement.

If I found their posts useful in some way, I'd use the 'helpful' function.

I appreciate Bryan trying to change aspects of CM, making the site more appealing to newbies whilst not alienating the existing 'veterans', but all this tinkering has not worked out too well in regards to the thanks function.

I've become used to this one but I do miss the old format, it was far better I think.

If you like this, please thank this, like. Not likely though. Thanks :machinegu:axeman:

Only just seen this thread but heres my take on it, a select few go around liking each and every post of each other which can make others like ratios look dismal when really there perfectly normal. Why I don't know, there are prizes I guess? I'm just hear to talk about gambling so likes mean nothing to me, no one likes a gambler!!

Anyway it reminds me of facebook saying "like" so I'll stop there as I feel nauseous

No prizes for likes or thanks.

Most experienced members see a like as an alternative for 'I agree' or a thanks as a 'cheers for that, helpful post' IMO.

I couldn't agree more with the Facebook thing, cannot stand it and not used my FB account for 2 years + on a regular bases, who cares what they had for lunch, bad day at the office, got a bit of a sniffle, someone cut you up in traffic, so fucking what:what:

I think to summarise the 'thanks' button is a must, if for nothing more than a show of simple good manners. The 'Like' however should be maybe changed to a 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' a bit like YT.

I agree, we should remove the 'like' function altogether, although I'm not too sure how much Bryan wants to do that after setting up this current format.

Like you said, keep the Thanks function, Helpful function and replace Likes with a thumbs up OR down. It's all too nicey nicey and I'm sure instead of just ignoring comments if I don't agree with them, I'd like to add my own brand of disagreement via a 'thumbs down'

It can't always be roses and sunshine, both features should be available for sure

Defo mate. I got plenty of thumbs down on my YT channel, mostly because I'm not spinning at £30 a pop probably.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, I can take the rough with the smooth. Thumbs down (or negative comments towards me in general) I use to learn from and if its me at fault learn not to make the same mistake twice lol.

Would be a strange and frustrating old world if we all liked, agreed and 'thumbs up' everything we saw/read, all day, every day

I wouldn't pay any heed towards Youtube comments, that site is riddled with racist, aggressive trolls and is probably the most un-moderated site in existence! Can't believe some of the stuff that people get away with on there

At least here though we're generally a good bunch and as Geordiecolin said it's near enough self-regulated, so any thumbs-down won't be met with vitriol and personal abuse. Even if this feature puts me out of commision :eek2::cool:

I am not sure if it's related or maybe a reason behind not seeing the usual amount of thanks ir if that is just a deep IT thing-or that some members maybe just yeah-aren't kind enough to give thanks anyway:rolleyes:

But.. i have only just realised that I could still give thanks-the 'button' has changed for me-Using Safari on iPad-There prompt used to read something like "Send Thanks to this user!" But now it says 'Did you find this post helpful?"

Initially when I couldn't find the usual Thanks button, I had thought that maybe the site had just logged me out as sometimes happens when I switch betweeen windows or am using the private browsing version etc and that the "Helpful" link would then send a visiting non-member to a page of like/similar threads or something if you get my drift.

So I have been an absent thankee-apologies! However, I guess aswell-I sometimes don't necessarily find a post 'helpful' per se but I wanna give a thanks for some other reason, like for replying/quoting my own posts or maybe just thanks cos the post might of put someone in their place or just an all-round good rant! So, I wanna just say Thanks for being awesome keep it up! Lol;) and thats also another reason I was hesitant to click the helpful link a bit in case cos it wasn't helpful, just a great read you know!

I liked just being able to 'thank', and nothing else bar the odd 'helpful' option.

I also believe it to be common courtesy to reciprocate if someone has thanked your post, even if just as a gesture and acknowledgement. So no actual need for the 'like' button (have I mentioned this already?!!) :p

Some people don't bother thanking at all, and I won't mention any names

We still cannot check which members have been kind enough to thank us for our time or add to rep etc.

The 'helpful post' links redirect to home page, mentioned to Bryan a couple of times but sure he has much bigger fish to fry at the moment.

You click on the number next to the smiley faces Jon
