I've signed up to an online casino website but found it's registered by the curacao gambling body, i dug a little deeper and found that their license is pending, i messaged the support and they said its on hold but their team is working on it, is the website still ok to process bets/gaming? or are they operating illegally/suspect website

As you're in the UK:

NEVER play unlicensed casinos.

ANY Curacao-only or unlicensed site that takes UK players is a scam. Simple as.

You have zero protection.

About the same chance of being paid if you 'win'.

Fake slots in many cases.

No responsible gambling protections.

'License on hold' lol is the biggest pile of nonsense I ever heard. If in any proper jurisdiction they wouldn't take a penny until licensed to do so.

'Pending' lol. It's a bit like me saying I've a large turd pending. Whether it's in or out it is still a turd and worth the same - nowt.

Do yourself a big favour, run a mile. Or two as it's olympics week.

To add to this... It would be corporate insanity to take bets while a license is "pending" or "suspended" - a well-regulated jurisdiction (which does not include Curacao) could act quickly to revoke a license for such behaviour.

When Matchbook had their UKGC license suspended in 2020 - they were allowed to do two things, settle or close open positions (because betting exchange), and withdrawals... nothing else.

More likely, they either don't have one - or like a number of "Curacao-based" casinos, their offices are in Curacao but they are now licensed in Costa Rica... which somehow is an even worse licensing jurisdiction (basically you pay money, you get the piece of paper, they leave you alone).

As the saying goes... if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

When it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and looks like a duck - it's a duck.

This is an UNLICENSED casino and if they are taking UK bets, they are a scam - like Dunover commented above.

If you are in the UK, you should ONLY play at UKGC licensed casinos.
