i'm interested to know how many slot junkies are here compared to card players or sports bettors. poll time!

which do you play the most of? options are:
-slots
-video poker
-blackjack
-other table games (all casino games apart from above)
-poker (vs others, not the casino variants)
-sports betting

i think i should allow multiple answers for this, but try to keep it to two (or three if it's really tough to choose second fave) so the poll shows a good gauge of what people are actually out there playing. :D

feel free to post as well as vote if you've anything to say.

shit i should've maybe included bingo, just post a shout-out if you're a bingo junkie!

Cant choose. I play everything although some more in different periods. I have had long slots, VP and BJ sessions and I also like to play hours on baccarat and pai gow. I like horse racing and soccer betting and play poker games and freerolls every night. I like mahjong best but you dont have this option.

that's cool that you like all games in small doses or when a certain game fanices you. myself, i like backgammon a lot (i wasted t_b and always finish about even with swede when we play). backgammon is a very old game, and i'm currently reading a huge book on gambling, and how those that couldn't compete in athletics often resorted to simulating races (as backgammon is) and other contests using lots and dice, depending on chance/fate/fortune instead of physical prowess. backgammon and chess (and probably mahjongg although i'm not too familiar with it) have elements of skill where one can prevail with greater competency in the game.

side note: i love phil laak. he's half irish which makes him quite funny and unusually lucky, and he's just great to watch and hear about. i like his comments on the show "beyond the felt", he's just a great personality. and hansen i like too, for his quirkiness and attitude. both are former backgammon pros. hansen reminds me of a monkey, especially because he chows on bananas while playing poker, and his shaved head making his ears look huge. and cuz he's always acting wild and crazy.

back to gambling, i feel like i have a better chance to win at bj and vp, slots just seem too random and mindless (and house edgy) to me. poker and sports betting can give you more of a knowledge or skill advantage, but i don't have the discipline to play smartly at either. quite interesting, the phenomenon of betting at games ruled predominantly by chance. fascinating stuff. that's why i made this poll, and i hope people will ring in with their reasons for playing what and how they do. i'm anxious to see what develops.

You are right that I play almost all games especially since my upbringing is a mixture of western and asian cultures so I also play traditional Chinese games plus horse racing that was introduced by the British here. What you could be wrong is that I play most of them in big doses. When I am online, I cant take more than 4 hours playing but its a completely different story when I do the real thing especially with some friends. Gambing stints for 20-30 hours at Paigow tiles and Mahjong were not uncommon but I am getting more fatigued now due to my age so I have cut back on them and play some games online. I also enjoy betting on horse racing so for 4 days every week my eyes are glued to the TV sets for the Hong Kong and Macau races.

This thread is mainly about slots and after you have played a bit you know that you are bound to lose unless you play with at least a 50% bonus and a WR about 12 to 15 times and grind them out hoping to at least withdraw your deposit. This is too boring for me, however and the only slots that have given me decent wins are Zany Zebra and Jackpot (Express?) at MG and Fruit Mania at Playtech. VP is much better as they give you value for money and while you dont hit a Str. Flush or a RF too often, the 4OAK do crop up regularly although your eyes may be blurred with black and red images after a lengthy session. If you are aiming to play a slot that gives you back a good payout ratio try skulls duggery. The thing with this slot is that it doesnt go cold for too long and you do hit something once in a while. Others will go cold for ages although when there are hot, your fingers burn. Hope this helps, HGB.

thanks again chuch, by small doses i just meant you like a taste of everything. we all go on a bender every so often lol. i hope this doesn't become just about slots, but i'm guessing maybe 75% of the peeps here are slots players, just trying to see if that's accurate, and what comes in second to slots.

i think asia is very interesting, i would like to visit all the different cultures there, to see what it's all about. i worked with a filipino, who talked about gambling on spider fights. every country has their nuances there, china japan thailand phillipines etc. neat stuff. a round of golf in japan runs about five hundred bucks because space is at a premium. here i could play eighteen for around a buck a hole and there are at least ten places to play in my immediate vicinity.

and as this forum represents a cross section of the world, it's interesting to see what games the folks like to play. i've noticed this time of night (night for me) brings few posts, where my morning and early afternoon is far more active (i've also noticed a lot of russians hitting me up on icq at this time of day, all wanting to practice english on me). so i hope in the coming day that more people will come on and vote and post about what drives them to bet and play. in my life i hope to travel the world, because right now that is all that there is to explore. i believe that in my lifetime we will venture to mars and beyond, and i wait for the day we can contact with some intelligent life from another world. and i'll lay 10 to 1 that aliens gamble/wager on chance just like we do. similarities and differences are wonderful to observe. being human is fantastic. that's one thing we can all love, even though we pollute and kill the earth at an alarming rate, let's hope we can sustain ourselves in this century. but moreover, let's enjoy wagering! :D

I like to play what I am better at. I like Blackjack. I seem to win more with the cards and lose more with the slots. That makes slots a bit less fun. I think that if I found a slot that was fun, I might play more even if I lost a little bit.

Surprise! I clicked slots! Also 'other games' 'cuz I'm a wheel freak sometimes... but also... have you ever checked out all the cool 'specialty games' I do keno, bingo, scratchies... where was it... English Harbour I think I've made a killin on the horse race game. A whole new world out there and you can play for hours on a small deposit.

Happy,

Even though I know slots are luck only, I love them! I'd sit and zone out on them as relaxation and used to about break even, no big losses. Then I would get a real rush when one was hot, and I won pretty big on occasion. It was like a fun second job when that happened :) If I couldn't find a "hot" slot, I'd do war or BJ to try to build up my bank and luckily, it worked more often than not. Like all slots players I had to learn lessons the hard way, as in don't chase your losses, etc. I hope I can do it again sometime in the near future :eek2:

nothing wrong with playing luck-based games. i was only saying that these games are so popular because only a scant few are able to win at contests of strength/speed/skill or some other prowess.

no casino games really have much of a skill element. you can read from a chart the basic strategy for blackjack and vp and any other game where you get a choice, without having to memorize it. and even while making the right plays, it's still up to the cards/dice to come up in your favour.

then there are more skill-based games such as backgammon and poker. it takes time to learn and internalize the best plays and the probabilities at each juncture, but ultimately the dice and the cards still rule over the outcomes. it takes some luck to win, but luck alone won't quite do it, you need to make the best plays with what you're given to have a real chance to win.

then you have a game that is entirely about skill, chess. you always have the freedom to do whatever your pieces can legally do, and only your own blunders can cause you to lose. and only the craftiest and farthest-ahead-planned moves can cause your opponent to let you win. even still, there is a minute element of chance, which is having the opening move. often this is offset by playing a number of games in a match, so both players get to play first.

checkers and tic-tac-toe are in this same family, but the possible moves are not really numerous enough to achieve notable proficiency in the game. after playing t-t-t for an hour or two, you realize how to lock up a win when you go first and your opponent does not play perfectly, and likewise how to stave off a loss when going second. two players who know how to play will just tie forever. in checkers, a few weeks of studying the game could make you a master if you take stock of all the ways the men can move, and you can learn how to force an opponent to become vulnerable. but again, two experienced players are going to be evenly matched, and there are few enough choices on each move that a less experienced player can get lucky by making the right moves without being aware they are doing so.

and then of course, there are true contests of sport. archery to marathon to wrestling. these all take practice and extensive knowledge and physical work to become competent at.

anyone can gamble at luck-based games and have a chance to win.
anyone with the patience and discipline to learn can do well in poker and backgammon.
anyone with extensive experience at it can excel in checkers-style games.
anyone with the great mental strength required can dominate all but the very best in chess.
anyone with the necessary physical traits, plus the mental strength and discipline and opportunity can truly compete in sport.

but no matter how far down on that list you can get, you can still take part in chance-based games, because we all can! and we all do. everyone puts faith and money into chance at some point, and many of us do it purely for the thrill, not even to necessarily try to be a winner.

I like to play with my girlfriend's body the most. Why wasn't that on the list?
