More Than 100,000 Americans Sign Fred Thompson's Petition to Renew the Bush Tax Cuts

Dear Newsmax Reader:

I am pleased to report to you that our campaign to Renew the Bush Tax Cuts has gained tremendous momentum -- and we already have over 100,000 Americans signing our petition to Congress.

And thanks to supporters like you Fred Thompson’s powerful TV ad for the League is running on Fox News and other cable networks everywhere.

Americans are angry with Congress. They want the Bush Tax Cuts FULLY renewed.

You can't raise taxes in the middle of a recession -- especially this one.

Pelosi and Obama are so hell-bent on taxing the "rich" that they won't fully renew these cuts -- and will also raise capital gains and dividend taxes.

But, because of your support, the League of American Voter’s TV ad and national petition drive is making a big difference on Capitol Hill.

According to The Hill newspaper, “Democrats will hold a September showdown over trillions of dollars in expiring tax cuts … That would make tax cuts a front-and-center issue in the days leading up to the midterm election.”

Pelosi may not want to do this, but I can tell you that millions of Americans have been informed because of our efforts.

They will most certainly hold the feet of their Congressmen and Senators to the fire right up til election day and after.

It is absolutely critical we continue this campaign — Go Here Now

We’ve also witnessed an especially virulent response to our efforts from the far-left, who continue to attack the League on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show and with internet postings.

Apparently, the far-left has also launched a profanity-laced email campaign against the League.

Most of the emails I cannot share with you for obvious reasons, but here’s just a taste of the venom being directed at the League:

“You parade as ‘real Americans.’ You are not. You are frightened traitors, cowards being led by the nose to this pathetic scrambling to get ‘yours’…” -- Anonymous

“[You are] flat out lying to confuse people…” -- Anonymous

“You’re a bunch of lying weasels… Either You're All STUPID, Or Liars!!!!!......” -- Rich

“Your un-American position is both shameful and, in my opinion, makes you traitors to the American people” -- John M.

The fact is all of the Bush Tax Cuts, affecting every American who pays taxes, expire at the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2010. When this happens, personal income tax rates increase across the board by 10 percent or more.

The capital gains tax will increase by one-third and the dividend rate will almost triple!

What’s more, the “death” tax rears its ugly head again, jumping from 0% to a whopping 55%! The marriage tax penalty returns. Even the child tax credit is cut from $1,000 to $500 per child.

Small businesses and investors are especially targeted by Obama and Pelosi. This means higher unemployment, lower incomes, and stagnant economic growth.

If liberals in Congress simply do nothing, their refusal to act will result in the largest tax hike in American history.

It will be fatal for struggling economy. But you can do something about it.

Dick Morris calls the League "one of the most effective organizations in America" and says "they deserve your support!"

Senator Fred Thompson is leading our national effort.

You can help us in two ways:

Oooooooo...scary!
Except, not so much.
Congress isn't getting ready to raise your taxes. Actually, Congress is getting ready to extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone...EVERYONE...but the very top 2 percent.

Well that's great swampwitch, it'll be the first sensible thing they've done in a long time even if only to placate us long enough to win back some of those votes before election time.

The top 2 percent are already paying most of the taxes. Why do some of you get happy when they get hosed but you do not? It is a form of socialism. It is unfair. it is bad for The united states. Why should some have to pay so much more than others? They get no special treatment or extra amenities.

That being said that just about everything the current administration has said so far has been a lie. so don't believe it til you see it.

Thank you greasemonkey and you know if I'd believed everything Obama has said or promised from the start, I would have surely voted for him too.

I really wish that you were right swampwitch but there's a whole lot of things pointing the other way and maybe we should send a yell to Washington just in case you are wrong?

If the Democrats have their way, very soon our taxes will be going up.

They have been very busy in Washington spending your money on their radical liberal agenda. They have been financing these bloated government takeovers and spending programs by borrowing money from your children. We now have a more than $13 trillion national debt which is growing by an average of $6.534 billion per day. The American people have become outraged at this reckless and irresponsible path, and rather than dealing with their outrageous spending habits, President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are going to try to pay for their agenda by taxing you.

In 2001 and 2003, Republicans passed into law the largest tax cut in American history, and lowered taxes for all Americans. But that tax relief is set to expire very soon, and the Democrats have no intention extending them. They want to raise your taxes in the middle of the biggest economic downturn in generations. And this isn’t just any tax hike, we are talking about a $3 trillion tax hike.

If you are single and make $30,000 a year, expect to see your taxes rise by $426. If you make $50,000, you will owe an additional $602. The expiration of this tax relief will mean less hiring by small business, a 50% cut in the child tax credit, a return of the marriage penalty and a 164% hike in the tax on dividends. What do you think this will mean for our economic recovery?

Don’t let them get away with it. Go to www.dontraisemytaxes.com, and sign our petition to tell the Democrats not to raise our taxes. Tell Congress you want them to extend the tax cuts before they expire at the end of this year.

Sincerely,

Senator John Cornyn
Chairman, NRSC

lol @ this. Does anybody REALLY still believe this regime when they speak? That is unreal to me that anyone would.

No money for abortion = lie
lets do this on cspan and be transparent = lie
will only raise your taxes if you make >250k = lie
The health care bill will not increase the deficit by one dime. = lie
ObamaCare Fee is not a new tax = lie
The Health Care Package will pay for itself = lie
We shouldn’t Mandate the purchase of health care = lie
We are immediately implementing pay as you go spending = lie
Guantanamo bay to be closed within a year = lie
if we do this massive bailout we will keep unemployment under 8.5% = lie
their campaigns wont accept public funding = lie
"When a bill lands on my Desk, The American people will have 5 days to review it before I sign it." = lie
his father served in wwII = lie

and this list could go on and on... The financial Ponzi scheme that Leftists think will work is hilarious and lacks any common sense. It is a ponzi scheme. They keep borrowing from future generations and raising spending. Government cannot tax and spend its way into prosperity. It is impossible.

This administration is reckless and is acting independently of the American People's best interest. If you really believe in all of this socialism then why does it never work? It's because it goes against the nature of man. I don't want to work all day and night to get ahead just to have some overbearing govt take much of the fruits of my labor away from me and give it to someone else. Why would I then work so hard? I wouldnt. I would let someone else do it. Soon everyone is waiting for others to take care of them and nobody is doing for themselves. That is what socialism breeds and if you still arent convinced that the current administration is socialist then you are not watching any news.

Non socialists (capitalists) do not raise spending like this. They do not increase entitlements at every turn. They do not want to confiscate personal property from others like this. They don't have massive federal take overs of private industries or want to take over banks, or socialize medicine or aim to socialize secondary education and take on student loan bills. They don't want to control the market at every turn. they dont want to redistribute your money to others like this... and I could go on and on like this.

This topic gets me fired up! If you are going to vote for any of the liberals running for office then you are against America and American principles. Everything that had made the USA an economic super power over the first 200 years is getting attacked by these socialist liberals in office now.

Vote them out in November or you will become a 3rd rate country permanently.

no way, I knew Obama would not be able to keep all those promises half way through the campaign as many others did I'm sure.

But I heard the left screaming about Bush lies for 8 years. I'm numb to it all now.

i,m getting that way fast.
especially seeing so many people just close their eyes to whats going on and still belive that its all of bushs fault and obama can do no wrong.

not saying bush did not do his fair shear of crap but when does one stop pointing fingers and start to asume the blame for things that they know they have done and not someone eles?

but anyway thats all i,m going to say or we know what will happen.:)

good post anyway.

Yes they are getting ready to extend the very tax cuts they complained about, ridiculed Bush over, admonished the Republicans for. Seems hypocritical to me.

Our unincorporated business that pays 100% of our employees health benefits and 100% of their share of contributions to the employee profit sharing plan often, but not every year has net income of $250,000.00 and with that we are able to buy equipment the next year, increase our profit sharing contributions the next, give higher christmas bonuses and of coarse pay our living expenses and 100% of our two childrens college tuition and expenses. Because of our net earnings we get no credit toward college costs, no credits that those that earn less get and the like. In fact, someone earning less given credits actually can come out better.

We are not in the top 2% as the tax bracket includes a range of income. We are much different than those earning a million or more that are able to invest their money and live off capital gains which are taxed at a much lower rate.

So, to the Democrats either let all Bush Tax Cuts and the 10% tax bracket he created; expire, or let them all be extended.

To do differently is totally unfailr and will hit small businesses barely hanging on the most.

Besides, extending it to all will only cost under 7 billion or less more than extending them for 98% some of whom owe zero tax given various extra credits and deductions afforded them, a drop in the bucket considering the amount this administration has wasted on bailouts such as the mortgage market and banks that either lost money or did little to help the taxpayer.

Oh, and why would it cost so much to extend the cuts to the "wealthy", because they pay the largest share of income tax already!

What happened to SwampWitch

maybe couldn't think of a reply. Most liberals don't have facts to back-up their comments.

footdr, what did your business do in the 1990's? While I do think they should just leave the tax rates alone they are in fact expiring to the old Clinton rates.

More likely than not the economy will improve as any uncertainty will be decided. Surely there are liberals with small businesses?

Truth is the Bush tax cuts provided little economic growth. While I like Cavuto I can't help but remember how he uses 9/11 in defense of poor Bush economic performance while Obama abeit his performance is sub par at best, is getting hung out to dry on the economy without considering the impact of the banking crisis.

Doesn't anyone remember the $700 billion bailout Bush secured? He spent $350 billion and secured the other $350 billion for Obama just as Obama was taking over the presidency.

Agree or disagree, Bush is free market guy and for him to sign the bailout tells me it could have been a complete financial catastrophe.

I don't really have a problem with social benefits, the way I see it is they are there for everyone should the need arise, whether lefties, righties, moderates or the unaffiliated.

Slotsplayer, The tax cuts did create economic stimulation. The problem was that the federal spending out lapped that growth.

Also, Obama's policies have proved to be failing policies everytime they have been tried. It is just the same tax and spend policies that crushed us under the liberal Jimmy Carter. It is the same policies that bankrupt entire countries. It just doesnt work. They implement that stuff and then we argue about miniscule details like how much of a % I pay compared to you. That shouldn't be the arguement. The debate should be over the fact that the federal govt. already burdens the population too much with taxes. We need LESS taxing, LESS govt. interference in our lives, LESS govt handouts and definitely less federal redistribution of your wealth to somebody else.

Regarding Social Benefits

These entitlements, other than social security and medicare which most employed pay into, should be for those unable to work due to disabilities.

The way I see it, no matter what school you attend you learn as much as you chose to. There is equal opportunity for all educationally. You don't have to attend the best schools to get a good education. You get out of it what you personally put in.

I worked my way through college so that I could get a good job. I worked l fulltime and two part-time jobs to help my husband through Podiatry school after we graduated from college.

I didn't get a free ride. My children are unable to get any assistance because their parents earn too much.

Instead of giving people public assistance, we should be training them for jobs and pay them for the Hours they train. Then the government should help find them a job. And those that can't be trained or refuse to should be put to work doing low level jobs for the City, State, or Federal Government. They shouldn't get a free ride. If single with children and child care too expensive then put them to work in subsidized child care facilities so these single parents can get a job. Bailing everyone out isn't the answer and will do little to change the situation.

As far as Bush, the budget deficit was almost 1/3 less than it is today when the dems took over the house and senate officially in Jan. 1, 2007. . Bush also planned to veto the PORK dems had in proposed budget and thats why the entire budget wasn't passed in October 2008. The Dems held it till obama took office. The Dems had control so they have to take a good part of the blame especially if you want to blame republicans who held the majority during last part of Clinton Administration for some of the legilisation passed during that period.

The fact is, we can't keep paying more taxes when they only use the money to increase spending and not apply it to the debt or deficit.

They are going to have to cut spending to an amount equal to what they receive in revenue from all sources.

If they want to increase taxes to what they were under Clinton, they how about they cut spending to the level budgeted under Clinton?

Seems fair to me!

Excuse me? You're not owed a comment every time you post. I hadn't looked at this thread in days.

My response in this thread was to felicie. I gave her a link that gives an answer to her post.

From what I gather with all of your posts is that you don't care about debate, and that you're absolutely certain of the superiority of your positions. If you want to keep believing that people with money or the best education are morally superior to the poor or the disadvantaged...if you want to keep pretending that Bush didn't bring this country to the brink of financial ruin and world-wide ridicule...hey, knock yourself out.

If you're going to deride anyone who disagrees with you with sweeping generalizations, then here's one for you...Most conservatives get their information from scaremongers and elitists who think that if they send out enough emails or get their "facts" posted to enough "patriot" websites and take over as many Google pages as possible then they can make people believe anything. How's that?

Seriously, get over yourself. I answered felicie, a bright and thoughtful conservative. Most of the blowhards around here with delusions of superiority (from either side of the aisle) I just put on "ignore".

I have the impression that it is people at the opposite end of the political spectrum who post things that have been e-mailed to them without any supporting facts.

Number of jobs as of January, 1993, a week before Clinton took office: 109.725 million.
Number of jobs as of Jan. 2001, a week before Clinton left office: 132.469 million
Net Gain under Clinton: 22.7 million jobs.

Now for Bush, who succeeded Clinton in the White House. As already noted, the nation had 132.469 million jobs as he was taking office.

Number of jobs on Jan. 12, 2009, a week before Bush left office: 133.549 million.
Net gain under Bush: 1.08 million jobs.

OK, but what about Brown’s claim that incomes went up under Clinton?

The numbers bear this out, too. BLS data, adjusted for inflation, show that average weekly wages grew by 21 percent from the start of Clinton’s first term to the end of his second term. They grew by only 2 percent under Bush’s two terms.
