It's weird, one day I wrapped it up and said enough is enough and I never looked back. I am fortunate, it seemed scary and like it would be hard to do but nope exactly the opposite. I will never again give my hard earned money away. I've won thousands, but lost a lot more, and I make very good money at a very tough job (building high rises in the carpenters union) and one day I said why I am giving these people the money that I basically shed blood for and risk my life everyday. Since then all my credit cards have been paid off, I bought a new VW Diesel Golf which I love and I am so happy. I have zero and I repeat zero urge to gamble, I don't know what it was that got me started and why I couldn't stop for the few years that I did. I still come back here now and again and enjoy reading peoples winnings and I hope none of you give away more of your hard earned money than you should. If you have a controlled rate at which you play, awesome, if not stop. Life is full of fun things, get outdoors and enjoy it! Thanks for listening!:)

Maybe when you see some lucky winnings here you will say "hmm, i just try with some money one more time" , so thats not the best idea to visit the forum :)

Not at all:) It literally doesn't appeal to me to gamble anymore at all. What I save from paychecks FAR outdoes what gambling ever did, that's enough for me, I just didn't realize it till I watched my bank account sky rocket.

Much players not always play to get big winnings, they know they will not, but they just want to see the pictures in the slots etc. if you know what i mean :)

It's the right choice to stop gambling, good luck with that.

Still you seem to be interested in gambling. You first stopped playing and then signed up to this forum:eek2:

No matter what, I'm always happy to hear that someone can stay away from doing something that doesn't make them feel comfortable, so good for you

I'm glad you were able to make a positive change in your life. :)

When I was younger, I also had zero interest in gambling - I'd never stepped foot in a casino until my 30's.

But I discovered, gambling is fun. :D

Clearly many do end up with a problem but many don't! I respect for you it was a bad addiction. However it all depends on control and entertainment factor. I only gamble small stakes. I started with bbingo on jackpotjoy. I deposited £10 last October and since then have had a £150 withdrawal and have over a hundred sitting there. By taking part in frees I have consistently made more than I lose. I have now moved to slots. These are more expensive but I use the simple equation that if entertainment per pound provides value for money then great. It's providing that more than my £1000 of Xbox games I never really played.

Congrats:thumbsup: I also wonder why you have joined a gaming forum , are you not afraid that the posts will tempt you back into the casinos grasps.
Please don't get me wrong , glad your here and maybe your posts may give another player who wants to quit gaming the hope to do as you have done.

Nine months is a long time and should be applauded , please keep it up if this is your true desire

Casinomeister is an awesome forum!!!! You do not need to be a gambler to take part in this great entertainment.

I personally have not deposited online in maybe about 5 months, and I look at the forum daily. This is one of my main surf sites, I choose this site over sad depressing news sites.

I have not necessarily quit gambling, but stopped depositing after 3dice got quite a bit of money and it seemed impossible to win, and Clubworld did the unauthorized charge 5 months ago. The way Clubworld handled their unauthorized charge was really what put it over the top. I had supported the group for so long, and then they just handled the situation so poorly. I am almost over the way Clubworld has handled because I have thought about depositing there a few times.

I believe that if the OP or anyone for that matter has quit gambling, yes indeed screenshots and what not can tempt you back, but there is a point in time when you need to come full circle with the problem and be able to maybe even walk through a casino without putting money in. I wont say the tempt wont be there, but if you are fully recovered you should be able to over come it. Its just like quitting smoking or drinking. Do you never go anywhere there is alcohol or smoking? Of course not because it everywhere in the real world. In the initial stages you may have to stay away. I quit smoking 6 months ago and I smoked the most when I drank. Knowing this I made sure that I did not get drunk in the first two months. I didn't stop drinking but I knew that if I had too many drinks it would be tough to not bum a cigarette. Well not having too many drinks kept me on the path, then at month 2 I had the night where I got really drunk slamming jaegermeister (I really don't like the stuff, friends love it one has a machine at his house bar) I was so worried I was going to ask for a cigarette, because my crutch for when drinking, e-cigarette, ran out. But I made it through it, I didn't ask for one, and since then its been easy, not that I am not tempted every once in a while.

OP-- great job on your accomplishment, keep it up.

I very much agree with this, as well as what everyone else has said for the most part.

But.....yes there is a but. There is a reason some alcoholics refer to the amount of months / years they have been sober, instead of looking at it as if the game is over. If something once was an addiction, then it is always there. Given the right circumstances, it can easily flare back up, which is why it's wise to avoid things that can fuel it.

Quick funny story. Well funny to me. I'll make it short and to the point. An older friend of mine has a daughter. Daughter has a boyfriend. Boyfriend goes to him and tells him that he purchased abstinence bracelets because he intends to wait until they are married. The kids are approx 10 years old. My friend (the dad) looks at the boy and tells him it's easy to go on a diet when you're not hungry.

I've had my fair share of addictions, and it's easy to stop when you no longer crave it. But we are all human. Your resolve sounds strong, and the things that are motivating your decision are solid. Even still though, never forget that human factor. We are heavily flawed even when at our best.

If this was an addiction for you, I recommend leaving the forums.

I have a way of always go back and read the OP's earlier posts so I know what's it all about.

Clearly the OP didn't stop because it was an addiction but because he got fed up with what a gambler had to face when living in the US. He also carried on playing at land casinos, so it wasn't a break from gambling.
Still I feel it was a great thing to do if the outcome of it is as great as he described :)

Thought I might tell since people are quoting my post as if it was both good and bad. It was more of a question ;)

Yes I read his posts from past and saw that 1/15 post he did say not gambling online but goes to casino. I am assuming that when he says 9 months no gambling he means all gambling, but based upon that pervious post maybe he does still go to B&M casino. But also based upon that 1/15 post he would have also had to quit B&M casinos on that post for it to be close to 9 months no gambling, but technically 8 months.

The part that stuck out in my mind was: "it seemed scary and like it would be hard to do"

If something isn't addicting or a habit, then I'm not sure where that phrase fits in at. I currently mix my water with crystal light most days. I wouldn't describe stopping as something scary or hard to do.

Either way his choice. He has to live with it.

You've come on here to tell us this for why???
Is it because you fear we will follow you into problem gambling, and we don't have more self control than you? Or is a case of 'non so pure as the converted'?
Glad you've enjoyed your epiphany anyway.

I can understand where the OP is coming from , Tho' I do not like to be lectured like a child about my gaming habits and how I should save my money and go outdoors , blah blah blah . I do wish him continued success on not gaming:)

I take his post as him being proud of it and speaking out loud. I can certainly relate to what he is saying. I have spent countless weekends in the casino, drinking, smoking, eating, gambling. I always have fun when I go, but I also over the last few years have cut back on going so often, and also came to the realization that I have missed out on other forms of entertainment, not to mention the money you save.

I lurked at the site for the few years I online gambled, and made the account after I stopped, why? I don't know, just never had much input to give that wasn't already discussed I guess. I don't look at the "9 months" as some kind of milestone, I was just out walking the pup and said to myself "man it's gonna be Halloween, then thanksgiving, then christmas before I know it with how fast time goes by" and reminded me that I stopped right around thanksgiving, and I couldn't believe another year has gone by.

Like one user said, what ultimately got me to stop was the difficulty to play in the U.S and got fed up with losing. Was it an addiction? I don't know, it was definitely something I did often, usually weekends, but once I got fed up, it didn't phase me at all to throw the towel in and never look back. I did play at land based casinos extremely rarely for no real reason (not during the past 9 months), don't appeal to me as weird as that sounds. I have one that opened up near me(15 minutes away) 5 years ago, been there 2 or 3 times and 2 of those times was for a comedy show, where of course I threw a few bucks in the slots;). It was the comfort of online casinos sitting at home when bored that always lured me. So no I don't even play them either, but never really have anyway.

I never had debt, but always kept a constant balance on credit cards that wasn't necessary and never really realized how much the money added up, even only spending 35 here or there. Do that three times, 4 times a month, boom 400 bucks, there's a car payment. And I deposited more than that, just an example. It just got to silly for me and thankfully it was short lived.

My intention was not to lecture anyone either if it came across that way, have fun and gamble on, I just wanted to state that if you're doing it a lot, that you may be forgetting about living a little, but I fault no one, and a hobby is a hobby, if you like it and are ok with how things are, I am by far no one to judge you or tell you how to live.

Just wanted to share my story is all:) Thanks and good luck on those slots:D

This too, just kind of overall happy that my extra money for fun things doesn't go to absolutely nothing anymore (in my eyes), felt good to think about, that's all people. If any of you were ever to meet me, you find I'm about the nicest most laid back person you can meet, please take nothing negative from this, I had no intentions on ever telling ANYONE what to do with their time or money. Stay happy people, no worries:)

When I was younger (and as I said, not into gambling at all), I still "threw away" money on what I referred to as entertainment, in about the same proportion as today. Back then, as with many young people, it was going to bars, drinking, carousing, etc. To my best knowledge, it wasn't any cheaper. Sure, you got out of the house and socialized, but now that I'm no longer a kid, I don't enjoy it really now. And it's always the same faces and people, so usually, I'm just like, "meh, over you." :D

So, in my opinion, it's all just part of that human need to engage in recreation/relaxation. The fringe benefit of this kind of hobby is sometimes you win - and they actually end up paying YOU for a session or two.

This is what I was saying in earlier post :) the whole thing with gambling is control. Never gamble to make money as it's designed to lose money! However if I go to the pub it's easy to spend £20. With no bonus and low stakes I spend less on gambling. As entertainment is my main focus I play for length of play. I won't go above budget and will practice play when funds are low

I think it's great that you stopped gambling! It's crazy to keep giving your hard earned money to these casinos. Also, like to hear that you bought the VW Golf. I bought the GTI and absolutely love it. Enjoy your car and your money and everything else you want to buy. Try not to break down when NJ brings online gambling to the state later this year. Good luck with everything.

Love the Golf TDI! Had a 2004 Jetta TDI that I put 300k on without blinking, never a single problem, not to mention the 50mpgs the diesel delivers:D
I will not at all breakdown when NJ brings online gambling here, I have no interest anymore. I will however be happy that my home country (and state) are, at what it's worth, getting the money of gamblers into OUR economy rather than a foreign country. Either way it's basically blood money haha. It'll be nice to see all those rogue casinos that are out there, that gave the run around to players about being paid lose a LOT of business, they banked on U.S. players, not much longer. Thanks Edie for the kind words.
