Comments Welcome Weirdest gambling superstitions/rituals you have seen or done?

The only ritual I have is, I wait to smoke a fag until I got free spins , I'd call it my lucky smoke . Then when I started playing Megaways I couldn't wait that long, who can wait over an hour for a smoke waiting for a bonus to hit

I left a community machine on autoplay once in the arcade, went for a smoke got back and it had triggered the bonus and paid jackpot...except the repeat chance had automatically timed out in that time too! (On £100 Barcrest digital community games they allow you to cancel the repeat chance just in case you would rather have it not take a credit to find out...sneaky!)

That's funny, I do the same. Last year I quit smoking inside my place, I only smoke out on my back porch now. When I hit free spins (on mobile) I jump up from the couch and run outside to smoke with a sense of excitement. I'm getting a smoke and free spins, woohoo! I know it's going to be a winner! Kind of stupid. :)

Surely that timeout is a bug? Many people would let a repeat time out on games. I'd imagine a few furious people waiting 90 seconds or whatever for it to just cancel the repeat chance.

Reminds me a bit of Golden game, 10p/£5 version. If it didn't have a credit left to take each time it reached the £5 jackpot, the feature would just freeze and the unit needing to be reset, naturally losing the opportunity to go for multiple jackpots. Felt really bad seeing this happen to people who had patiently just done £50+ in it to finally get their first feature, to be left wondering wtf happened, walking off with 5 gold coins. Not quite bad enough to not play it afterwards though!

That is actually worrying.

I think I get more excited about being able to have a smoke than the free spins because of the stress 🤣🤣

Yes, when I used to smoke in my Raging Rhino days I would always roll a fag and spark up before I started the bonus. Always knew when I had had an action-packed or profitable session by the hacking and coughing next day...🤢

That’s one reason I had to start smoking outside, gambling and smokes don’t mix. And it’s even worse when you’re drinking a few beers at the same time. I might as well have started a smoke IV. 🙄

Vaping is the worst, I can drag through a whole stick in one session and no need to go outside. Whereas at least with the fags there were natural limits 😬

I really want to quit as I know it's not doing me any good at all, but the things are more addictive than fags due to the lack of bad smell, hacking cough etc.

The times I've gone through one in a late gambling session.. then lain awake all night from my body being oversaturated with nicotine 🤮. Not good at all.

Yeah for some reason people thought vaping chemicals that taste of strawberry's made in Taiwan, was somehow healthier then smoking cigarettes.

I tried vaping and it made me cough and my chest worse then cigarettes did.

Went back to cigs. 😄

Same, I tried it one time. It felt like I sucked in 20 cigarettes worth of smoke in one hit. Ugh, it actually hurt. No thank you, I am sticking with smokes as well 😂

For me, they made giving up smoking after 30-odd years on and off (mostly on) a piece of cake. Give me some glycerine vapour with flavoured syrup and dissolved nicotine salts any day over 70-odd carcinogens at 400c, brown fingers and a tight chest. :)

I can’t lie, if it hadn’t hurt so bad I would definitely switch to vaping!

I've got a few, 😄

I've always felt when you want to win really bad, you won't.

And when you don't care and have already accepted you've lost before you start, You win!

Another is that online casinos tend to always start playing much more in my favour after midnight.

Slots play better at launch, then they eventually fall in line with the rest.

Chasing a bonus on a slot that is playing like shit and hardly teasing scatters is a waste of time, Because when it lands eventually it's usually always Shit.

Some of these theories do hold weight though In my opinion. Some most likely are just superstitions so a nice pick and mix. 😄

I could go on and on, but that will do for now. 😄
All of these!

On slots that can give multiple win lines like DOA I always spin after the animations rotate back to the highest payline. If I get it wrong and spin on a lower payline and the session goes dead I feel like that's the reason it happened

In the bookies there would be a guy who would sometimes be standing by the wall opposite the FOBTs. It was a small shop and I always assumed he was waiting for a particular machine.

During the week I would just place my bets and leave. Then one weekend I had been in there a while speaking to the staff and realised he did that when a bonus hit on the machine he was playing.

The really weird thing was he switched to roulette and did that on every spin. Put his bet on, press spin, go to the other wall, walk back over and over.

When I hit a load of reds in Warlords to hit the bonus I fling open my windows and doors so everyone in my street know I have hit a big one. Even at 1am in the morning
Doesn't Mrs Patel get annoyed?

Kinda like the N. American land-based players who seem to believe the slots near the entrance are 'tweaked' to pay more than the rest.
Based on real events, so to speak: the machines near the entrance weren't actually paying out more, but there were a lot of 'dropping coin' sounds and alarm bells on said machines, all with purpose of 'luring' people who were cashing out back in, motivating any passers-by to come on in, and just to motivate any ole gambler that came in on their own, to get in the 'winning spirit'....

All based on extensive research, funded by a conglomerate of said Casinos: i've read it more than once and seen it highlighted in at least one good documentary, back in the day. Iirc, i even posted one of those doc's here in the 'what are you watching'...

On topic: yeah, more or less all of the things you guys mentioned, been used/are being implemented by me as well :p

I sometimes have sessions where i'm playing a bit mindlessly, just clicking away on a slot i like, but know well, then start daydreaming about some scenario i want to achieve in that slot, and it suddenly happens right away, sometimes exactly like i saw in my minds eye, the seconds before?! Like a deja-vu kind of feeling almost..

I've had that too often to not think it's a 'thing' 🤣
So of course since that happened more than once, i now find myself 'envisioning' a lot more
Doesn't really help i had all those max-wins recently too! :d
I'm probably screwed...

Something like this happened to me on a megafire blaze slot I played a lot when I first started last year then stopped playing in May.

I was playing it as a goodbye to slots in August as the balance i built was getting low and I planned to sportsbet with the remainder as a kind of "I beat the slots".

I hit the bonus round with hold and spin coins. It always gave mini on the jackpot coins and very occasionally a minor.

As it was doing the reveal I jokingly thought "well I'll accept the grand" and it landed for 2000x!

When I tried bingo I never bought the max tickets but would buy 12 out of 60 or 24/100 etc. Initially I would just type in the amount and let it pick the top ones.

I then had the weird thought that maybe they hide the better tickets at the bottom to benefit the max ticket regulars so I started scrolling to the bottom and manually picking the tickets.

I'm sure I had better results because I would hit a few wins doing that!

So for lightening the mood I always remember odd behaviour by either myself or others, going right back to arcades decades ago. The foreign bloke who accused people's 'eyes of being evil' and cursing his Electrocoin (IIRC) play and wouldn't press start until they weren't looking. Those that 'stroked' the start button continually until they built up the absolute minimum necessary pressure to spin the reels. People who covered the glass every few spins. Just a few odd rituals I remember.

Myself? I always try and position the cursor right in the middle of the start button since autoplay stopped for UK. Then starting when the seconds on the clock are either ending in 5 or 0 (I've managed to wean myself off of that one of late).

All of the above are absolutely ineffectual, absurd and pointless and we know it, so why? 🤪
Deep down we know none of it makes a difference, but when something is completely random, doing something — timing a click, lining up a cursor, having a little ritual — makes it feel less passive. It’s comfort more than belief.
I remember similar stuff in arcades too. People swore certain machines were “hot,” others wouldn’t touch the buttons the same way twice. It was all nonsense, but it made the moment feel controllable and familiar.

I used to do that on Rhino autoplay back in the day, was convinced if I didn't watch I would hear the crash-crash-crash of the 3 diamond scatters far sooner. Listening would produce more features than watching and 'a watched autoplay button never greys out' lol

). It's actually quite fascinating.

Sometimes I've thought that playing when less others are (1 to 5am) made the slot return more to me.

That seems to be a common thought but sessions do seem to go better the later you play

I only play min. stakes and in the uk the max stake is restricted. When I started slots it amazed me that a lot of USA screenshots would have $10+ as the spin stake.

After that if I won anything over 100x on a slot late at night I'd joke to myself that an American must have just had a couple of dead spins
