Comments Welcome Weirdest gambling superstitions/rituals you have seen or done?

So for lightening the mood I always remember odd behaviour by either myself or others, going right back to arcades decades ago. The foreign bloke who accused people's 'eyes of being evil' and cursing his Electrocoin (IIRC) play and wouldn't press start until they weren't looking. Those that 'stroked' the start button continually until they built up the absolute minimum necessary pressure to spin the reels. People who covered the glass every few spins. Just a few odd rituals I remember.

Myself? I always try and position the cursor right in the middle of the start button since autoplay stopped for UK. Then starting when the seconds on the clock are either ending in 5 or 0 (I've managed to wean myself off of that one of late).

All of the above are absolutely ineffectual, absurd and pointless and we know it, so why? 🤪

Indeed! I don't have any strange rituals really other than sometimes looking away from the screen if I think the feature is going to hit. I especially seem to do it with Cash Bandits. Like that helps, you know, if I'm not looking. Ha. I was at a land-based casino last weekend and had to move machines two different times. I've never seen anything like it. Two different women were half standing and rubbing their hands all over the screen, up down, sideways - like they were...heck, I don't even know what to compare it to. I couldn't take it, it was kind of freaking me out. :)

many many years ago, my brother used to ctl, alt, delete the partycasino software client to 'save' his slot sessions after busting out to be sure it was the same 'session' later on when playing again, this had a unintended side effect of replacing bonus balances with (lost) cash balances which they eventually picked up on and banned him saying he owes them lots of money, he is still banned there to this day because of this.

Wow! Maybe out-of-work masseurs?

Confused it all with compensated slots did he? I've heard many players have doubts because when they reload an online slot it gives the default reels like some versions of Bonanza do, and they think that they were 'due' a win and that will reset their chances lol

this was back probably around 2000, and yes we grew up on seaside arcades and knew very little about online random slots so we did assume they were like the ones down the arcades.

Understandable, as you know we still see people suggesting the very same here today. My favourite is The Bandit when he gambles up to the top feature first attempt in a session, then when it's crap shouts "You're telling me the game doesn't know it went up first time???" 🤪:laugh:

I've got a few, 😄

I've always felt when you want to win really bad, you won't.

And when you don't care and have already accepted you've lost before you start, You win!

Another is that online casinos tend to always start playing much more in my favour after midnight.

Slots play better at launch, then they eventually fall in line with the rest.

Chasing a bonus on a slot that is playing like shit and hardly teasing scatters is a waste of time, Because when it lands eventually it's usually always Shit.

Some of these theories do hold weight though In my opinion. Some most likely are just superstitions so a nice pick and mix. 😄

I could go on and on, but that will do for now. 😄

"Slots play better at launch, then they eventually fall in line with the rest."

Truer words were never spoken. Every time I try a new game, I'm like OMG, I'll never stop playing this, I'm killing it! Yeah. No.
Kinda like the N. American land-based players who seem to believe the slots near the entrance are 'tweaked' to pay more than the rest.

P.S. Another classic (The Bandit again often comes out with this) is believing or suggesting the feature will be good because the scatters landed on the same row or in a symmetrical pattern.

Quick one for now, will revisit this thread when not so tired as I have loads lol....:o :o....

Before the removal of the Dead or Alive "teaser spin" I used to sometimes do batches of 3 rituals on a tease for the bonus

1) Really hard stare at the screen, reel by reel.
2) Point at the remaining reels, physically touching monitor
3) Close eyes and listen for the 3rd 'dunk'

rinse and repeat.

On those days when it was bonusing often, I'd sometimes think "It's due to land on a number 3" etc all bonuses today have come from 1&2 etc.....

Also during a bonus I occasionally follow the 9 win lines in order spin by spin as they progress with the mouse pointer and 'click' that position if they happen to land.

The mindset of a gambler eh lol?

I used to do that on Rhino autoplay back in the day, was convinced if I didn't watch I would hear the crash-crash-crash of the 3 diamond scatters far sooner. Listening would produce more features than watching and 'a watched autoplay button never greys out' lol

Due to the built in delay for the UK, this only applies to non-UKGC casinos.

Spoiler alert: all Pragmatic slots.

I found that gluing my eyes to the balance is more efficient than looking at the reels. If a win or bonus is coming in, when spin is pressed the credit will go down almost instantly before the reels even start spinning. If there is a 0.5 - 1 sec (or so) delay in the credit going down, it's a dead spin.

Can use this to predict whether a tease is actually going to land or not (unless there is a win on a win line as well). Good for the teasing Bass games.

Of course it's pretty much killed the fun. I realise this is more of a tell than a superstition but it does kind of fit in with the theme of daft player behaviour 😬

I try really hard NOT to look at the balance so it doesn't spoil the fun. I hate that the balance immediately reflects what is happening because it takes a little bit of the fun away from watching the graphics :) but I'm with you, sometimes my eyes stay glued to the balance when I'm spinning and I have to mentally stop myself and try to ignore it. It almost causes me to completely zone into a trance, spin, spin, spin, spin, oh wake up, balance changed!! hahha

Oh, I just remembered another one I witnessed in arcades - people putting their fag packets on the glass resting on the bottom edge, but it MUST be as tight into the left lower corner of the glass as possible.

Then on the subject of the glass over reels, people who made patterns out of pound coins on the glass and eventually took them off and fed them back in, always leaving a certain arrangement with the remainder.

Color me stupid. I'm from Columbus, Ohio and I have idea what a 'fag packet' is. :) Cigarettes?
