I got this mail today and I don't know what to make of it....

Dear (MY NAME),
Please note that you have $50 for use in your eWallet Xpress account.

Please contact our Customer Service department for further details and refer to your code : EWALLET50

There's a link that that starts with h ttp://r20.rs6(dot)net (and a whole string of numbers) but it redirects to h ttps://www.ewalletxpress(dot)com/svc/app?obj=home&sub=supp
Is this a phishing mail? But the site is ewalletxpress. Seems odd to me, what do you guys think?

Is this a phishing mail? But the site is ewalletxpress. Seems odd to me, what do you guys think?

1) Is this the correct balance that was in your account when it was frozen. If the email is genuine, the figure should be accurate.

2) The code "EWALLET50" looks like a bonus code that a casino might send, rather than something an eWallet would send.

In any case, how could you use this money without a merchant able to accept it.

The link may look genuine, but it may not be, and it could take very close examination of the site to find out.

The best bet would be to type the URL for the ewalletxpress home page into the browser, and then log in as you normally would and check whether this $50 is there, or even whether you can log in.

It is also possible that EWX have allowed their URL to lapse, and it has been reregistered by someone intent on using it in a fraudulent manner by trying to get EWX customers to supply some of their personal data in order to access an account that has usable money in it.

Very odd.

Going to the EWX site by typing in it's URL shows the EWX site seemingly open for registration. At the top is a banner ad for "Lucky Canuk" casino, which seems to encourage you to click and use your bonus code. Maybe this is the code in the email.

Lucky Canuk is a betsoft casino licenced in Curacao. The laws of the UK govern the participation according to the terms, and their certificate shows as being the general Betsoft one licensed by the AGCC. They also have the "gamcare" logo on their site.

Well, if it walks like a duck, quacks like one, it probably is one, and probably a "rouge" coloured one at that.

Someone seems to be using the EWX domain to have added this banner, yet EWX have gone AWOL with everyone's money, and I very much doubt whether Lucky Canuk, or any other casino, actually has EWX as a deposit option.

It almost looks as though a rogue affiliate has managed to get hold of the EWX domain, and is using it as a "passing through" point for his spam emails that are effectively promoting Lucky Canuk casino, which is clearly being aimed at Canadian customers, who would also have lost money in EWX.

Given all the odd goings on over the original incident, it could even be an "inside job" run by ex EWX staff who somehow "stole" the access details for the URL when the company was shut down, and who are now using it for their own profit.

It is certainly worth further investigation, just in case it opens a trail to the missing monies.

Live chat at EWX

Here is a tiny bit of good news. For the longest time, when I went to "live help" at EWX, I got an error message. Now, at least, I get the "leave a message" box. I just signed in and saw the Canuck banner as well.

Who knows, but this should be investigated more deeply.

Who could look into it?

Someone from Canada could "go through the motions" of registering there to see if the process actually works. In the past, it didn't. Someone with an empty account could see if they can log in.

The leave a message facilty has been there before, but none were ever responded to after the support staff finally left their desks.

All "updates" relating to the site have been removed, and all that remains is one that more or less indicates "business as usual". The FAQ seems to have been stripped of everything from sections other than the players. Merchant login is still there, but nothing else, no FAQ, guide, new merchant sign-up, etc.

It looks like a "shell" site, with very little behind it. The only thing that seems to work is the banner, it does go through to the casino.

That Canuck casino doesn't say anything in the terms about being Canada only or disallowing any countries (except if it's illegal to gamble) I find that kind of odd too. To deposit you do a direct deposit through your bank, to withdraw, you have to send them an email and wait for 7-10 business days. :eek2:

The whole thing smells fishy to me.

I received the same email too and logged in but without using the link, just going to the site directly. Saw the regular message
"Please be advised that due to current technical issues we are experiencing, deposits into Canadian wallet accounts are temporarily out of service." and no 50 bucks

I get lots of spam, but I never joined EWX. I'm not getting these particular "offers".

I did look at EWX a few years ago, when all was working well, but Moneybookers was much cheaper as I use an ewallet for gamlbling.

Despite taking saying they took Canadian players, I belive the site stopped taking new signups long before the recent closure. There were a few threads about the service dead-ending for people and not being able fot open accounts/fund accounts for Canadian players.

This company operated out of downtown Toronto, I originally thought they ceased to serve the Canadian market because of a potential legal conflict.

While it's not illegal to gamble online in Canada, it may well be illegal to offer gambling services to Canadians from Canada.

As I understood it at the time, it was a factor in Rival (who operated with Canadian owners from a Canadian base) withdrawing from the Canadian market.

Not only US players lost funds with EWX. DOJ seizures should have left other countries free to get their funds.

Casinomeister has said he's seen the seizure warrants, but I think these boys skipped town with everyone else's money from other countries.

I don't think I'd trust with a free $50, and I personally don't think I'd play any casino that can't spell Canuck properly.

If this is some affiliate for the casino that just took over the domain, I'm wondering if they're just mass mailing everyone on gambler lists that lives in Canada, or did they somehow get hold of the EWX database so they know who had accounts there...?

If it is just a random spamming campaign, then sooner or later a player without an EWX account will get one. If there are ONLY players with frozen EWX accounts getting these, this is far more sinister, as it does suggest that EWX just left all your personal data "just lying around" when they closed down the service. It is possible that the owners and directors of EWX are PERSONALLY liable for this lapse, so it might be worth reporting this to Canadian authorities as a potential phishing fraud using details stolen from a closed down Canadian company, and using it's old domain.

If US players receive one, report it to the DoJ who REALLY know what went on, and would see this as an "incitement to gamble online" coming from a company they thought they had shut down. They may go after whoever now has control of the domain.

The casinos is clearly involved somehow, as they are the only advertiser, and were NOT there when EWX initially shut down, so must have been put there when the company was supposedly subject to the DoJ seizure.

The most likely culprit at present seems to be an ex employee, or even an owner/director, who managed to take the customer database and domain access codes with him, and has now decided to surface and try to make some money for himself by making EWX customers think their money is going to be given back.

I didn't spot that, but added to all the other oddities I saw, it doesn't help them.

The only thing impressive is the slot software with it's 3D effects, similar to 3Dice.

The fact that it was called "Lucky Canuk", and had Canadian themes throughout, made it clear it was marketed at Canadians, but there is nothing to stop players from other countries from playing other than them engaging their common sense circuits before making their first deposits:rolleyes:

Just took a quick look through the games at the casino and noticed on the game "2 Million B.C." on the background was a character that looked very familiar.

huh.webp

That is close enough for them to need permission from the film studio. I doubt they would have got it given that it's a childrens' film character on a casino slot machine that even US adults are not supposed to be playing. This is an indication that the software itself might be a bit "iffy" in the legal sense, even though it hasn't blatantly ripped off games from others (I had a look round, couldn't see any).

I'm surprised chat is up. Just chatted now but no new information. In fact, I don't even know what further to ask at this point.

Tim: What is the status of paying out the seized funds?

You are now speaking with Stacey of Customer Service.
Stacey: Hello
Tim: Hi
Stacey: We are still in negotiations, once we have any updates we will notify our customers by e-mail
Tim: Is there anything the customers can do to speed things up?
Stacey: I'm not very familiar with the proceedings so I am not sure to be honest
Tim: Do you have a web link to where I can read that the funds were seized by the government? I can't find anything from a government source.
Stacey: I know an e-mail was sent out to those who have a withdrawal request but I do not have a web link
Tim: I received the initial email
Tim: But there was no official government link.
Tim: Are you guys still running this as a business if the funds are gone?
Stacey: no the service is not available at this time
Tim: But customer service chat is working?
Stacey: yes we are here to answer the questions of our customers
Tim: Chat was done for a while so it's back up until the issues are resolved?
Tim: I mean chat was down...
Stacey: yes there was a technical issue, but that is back up now so we are back to speak with any customers who have questions, such as yourself
Tim: Ok well here's hoping that negotiations will come quick!
Stacey: yes
Tim: Ok well bye for now.
Tim: Thanks.

So, EWX are still in control of their domain. Therefore it is EWX who have placed the banner for Lucky Canuk, and EWX who willl benefit from the referrals delivered via that spammy email. If EWX are the beneficiaries, they are the ONLY ones with an obvious motive for launching the campaign, and will of course know which email addresses to send it to.

Now, they are supposedly in negotiations, which are no doubt sensitive, so WHY THE HELL would they have a casino banner ad on their home page, and start spamming their former customers with a misleading indication that EWX can now give them $50. Surely the DoJ would be annoyed at this, and this would have a detrimental effect on the outcome of these negotiations.

The only thing that makes sense is if this whole story about negotiations in progress is complete BS, and the ONLY thing EWX are doing is trying to make money as a Lucky Canuk affiliate.
