Videoslots for Australian customers

Hi,

A little while back Videoslots left Australia completely however advised that using a VPN was acceptable.

I was advised this morning by a MP (locally elected government official ) that by allowing Australia customers to access online casino's via a VPN was against the law. This law was set in place and by Videoslots saying we don't care if you use VPN is irresponsible at best.

Personally if Videoslots has left the country they should not have accepted any deposits from when it was announced and closed the accounts like every other casino.

At the end of the day Australian customers will lose out.

Can you maybe send a link to this thread to your MP, just to make it totally easy for him?

Geez, be happy you can still have a punt online at a trusted site and stop posting hints for your government. Or at least try to write it in less obvious way.

Another ill informed comment.

I was in Canberra for the last few days where the government sits for a Farmers conference. Yesterday I was chatting to two MP's, one of whom was my local MP. I mentioned that I had enjoyed playing online poker until it was removed from Australia. The response back was not good. From the government's point of view the banned online casino's yet it's been ignored so they have advised banks to block accounts where credit cards have been used.

I have had my bank account for over two decades, my mortgage and everything is with the same bank so to hear that my accounts will be closed because I used my debit card at Videoslots is very frustrating.

Perhaps someone else can tell me what I should tell my wife when our account has been closed because I played Blackjack last week??

I would avoid playing anywhere with a VPN. If you are in Australia, just get used to being in a nanny state and take the fight to the polls. You can make sports bets there - but that is about it.
Old / Expired Link

Or like Mina1929 mentioned - just go on holiday and play from elsewhere.

I will make this my last post on this subject.

A week or so ago Videoslots announced on this forum they had been contacted by the Australian government. They advised they could no longer accept players in Australia but then in the same breath said we have no problem with Australian customers using a VPN.

Very few online casino's accept customers using a VPN and it's always a risk in doing so.

I doubt very much that VS would do this as they are one of the best but in theory there is nothing stopping less scrupulous casino's withholding withdrawals on the basis that online gambling is banned in Australia.

Those two MPs are simply scaremongering.

If banks blocked accounts where a CC has been used, they are the ones acting illegally. Blocking a CC from being used is one thing, but blocking the entire account is another thing entirely, as it is NOT ILLEGAL FOR ANYONE in AUSTRALIA TO PLAY. How many times do I have to re-iterate this?

What is illegal is for offshore casinos to offer their services to anyone in Australia.

From the IGA itself: "Customers should be aware that if they gamble using illegal services, they run a high risk of losing their money. These services sometimes refuse to return deposits or pay winnings to the customer. As the services are operating illegally, there is little recourse for Australian customers."

...As the services are operating illegally...
This is where I have issue - most casinos are NOT operating illegally - Malta, UK, Kahnawake, Antigua - even Curacao are all licensing legal betting shops and casinos. Statements like that just drive home the fact that most people who write these laws are ill-informed and are just being protectionist. I have been dealing with this industry for two decades, and I can safely say that any country that bans online casinos does it because they can't figure out how to get a piece of the pie: they don't know how to tax it. It has nothing to do with protecting players.

They can spew these platitudes all they want - meanwhile their citizens are forced to play at real rogues - those who will really rip off players.

Idiots.

Absolutely agree.

However, even though our useless govt might not know how to tax online gambling, they sure as hell know how to tax everything else.

In order to "protect" local businesses, such as Harvey Norman (aka Hardly Normal), Myers, et al, any 'low value orders' under $1000 from overseas companies selling online are all subject to GST as from July 1st. But who will be doing this 'low value ordering'? Yup, us plebs just trying to survive in what must be one of the most expensive countries in the world. Us plebs that the govt treats with contempt as we don't happen to be millionaires, unlike them, or unlike the BIG Aussie companies who campaigned for this result.

Which begs the question - just how corrupt is our govt under Turnbullshit and friends?

So no more Amazon.dot.com to do our shopping as we are now restricted to the Australian version, which is a pathetic version of its parent.

So no more Next, M&S, Book Depository...you name it.

However GST must be collected at source, so I hope there are many companies out there giving the govt a two-fingered salute.

Just as I wish online casinos, which are legally registered in other jurisdictions, would do the same.

The OP rant, reads a little too much like someone gambled what they couldn't afford to lose, and lost. Instead of coping it sweet, being adult and accountable, they've decided to payout on VS.

Turnbull only protects himself and his wallet.
It looks like he is trying to change as many things that will directly benefit him as fast as possible, he is aware he wont be in power forever, even though he will continue to get paid for it.
Australians used to work hard and stand together to fight for their rights and the things they believe in.
These days people just take it, everyone is so blind to the control the government holds and its rapid growth, either that or they ignore any changes that don't directly affect them, and sugar coat it even when does.
And businesses are built and run on the basis of providing the shittiest quality products that they'll still get away with selling, and doing as little as humanly possible for as much money as they can squeeze out of people. The monopoly have wiped out almost all our small businesses. all of the decent people/ organisations went broke. people dont want to help each other, they would rather take someone down.
Why does anyone believe a word out of the PM'S pompous, well fed, little, gob anyway!

So true.

Where I live, the Federal MP is useless. Promises the earth (at election time, of course), and delivers nothing. And yet, people still vote for him. When I ask why, the usual response is: He might not do anything, but all the other pollies are just as bad, and nothing is going to change.

With an attitude like that, sometimes I think we deserve everything we get.

However, after the 2016 election, the seat is hovering on the brink of becoming a marginal, so perhaps....finally...Aussies are starting to wake up and smell the coffee, rather than the rank sewerage that the pollies spit out.

Edit: This thread is turning into the Aussie version of Trump. Sorry everyone.

Oh to live in Australia right now!

Actually no thanks, the way they're headed they'll be prohibiting fresh air :eek2:

New Zealand though is where I want to go. Just no one tell me it's as bad as Australia ok, I don't think I could hack it :D

NZ IS WAY BETTER
i've never been, but ive heard good things.
