I just watched the last half of Oprah. Alicia Silverstone was on part of it (repeat) and she was talking about her book.

My questions are.....

Have any of you read her book?

What do you think of it?

Are there any other books similar to that book that you like? (that teaches you recipes, healthy recipes)

I am a veggie lover, but don't really eat any grains or greens that I never heard of. Probably because I don't know what to do with them. :o

Justplay,

I hear you about getting sick! There are many videos, undercover supposedly, of people treating animals horribly. It happens daily, all across the planet.

Organizations like Peta are so extreme in their positions about animal abuse that they get ignored. They use these videos to convince folks to become vegetarians. The problem is, people will never be total vegetarians, as long as the human race exists.

A better approach would be targeting the government regulatory agencies with better policing of the meat and fur industries. It would make the prices higher for the meat and fur, but that should be okay to those that want it.

I love meat, and I like some leather, like shoes. As a person who raised her own meat for many years, I feel there is no reason that we should stop eating meat. We have been doing it since the beginning, when we started to walk upright and probably before that! There are many humane ways to treat animals and end their lives with no pain, the meat industry just refuses to address this issue. One reason is that they do not want to spend more to get their products to the marketplace.

I didn't get very far into the video, they were doing it to adult cows and even little ones. I can't even type about it. Peta are the worst group out there! I have read stories about them.

Oprah and Alicia did say there were great places where people let the cows "free roam" I think was the term...they get to run around in the field, graze on grass like they are supposed to, and play. They don't shoot them up with hormones or feed them corn (which they say isn't natural for a cow)

I don't care for leather anything, I just don't like the looks of it. I don't want to stop eating meat altogether, I am just looking for alternatives. Apparently there are many grains and greens I have never heard of, or know how to prepare. lol

Alicia said in her book you don't even have to give up anything like meat/dairy/whatever, just add in these grains that are very healthy for you. (especially skin) Now I forget which ones...lol.

I was just wondering if anyone has read this book and what they thought of it? Or was there a better book out there? I don't want to get into a eat meat/not eat meat discussion, it's a personal descision how people live their lives ya know?

Try The Vegan Sourcebook....its a great read....I have not read her book though so I cant give an opinion....

Oh Jelsmith have you read about (I can't think of the term) the people who eat dandelions and things like that?

I received a sample of an organic lip balm and there was a recipe for fried dandelions and a website, but I think I threw out the pamplet.

To everyone....can we keep this topic just to vegetarian/vegan eating, not who did what, who believes in what? Please.

Yes it has recipes and the like.....there are tons of really good cookbooks out there....My favorite dessert type thing is pancakes in a cup...you basically use bisquick and add some fruit (i like blueberries) put it in a coffee mug and nuke it....comes out DELISH

Here is a great one that you can download for free....lots of goodies in there

My father picked dandilions all the time and made a salad. Go ask any elderly Italian's about dandilions. They're a big deal to them.
