Again though, it’s not really a left/right issue. The Dems are roughly equivalent to the Tories here. Slightly to the left if the Tories, but not by much. The Republicans in their current format are a cult, far removed from their respectable heritage.

Realistically, the choice is between a very hard right party (whether you believe Project 2025 to be genuine or not - it was written by former Trump Staffers), or a centre-ish party.

There’s far too much money in American politics, so they only have an illusion of democracy.

I think it's clear now that the gloves are off - you have the entire Democrat machine behind Kamala now, with the media to boot, making her pretty formidable.

Throw in many high-profile celebs and business leaders into the mix, coupled with her personable demeanour and ability to convey her message, it'd truly be foolhardy to write off her chances.

It's going to be a complete contrast in terms of style and voter appeal, as Harris has nothing to lose but everything to gain, no matter how she got there. Four months is an awfully long time in politics, and her campaign set to gather momentum.

I would say the the uk has been bloated with so much immigration that potentially politics can no longer make a difference (Compared to say the 80s when there were debates over policy). It’s happening over here as well - about a decade ago, we started to have US-style debates between party leaders. But we don’t have a presidential system - they add nothing. A party leader can be dropped at a moments notice by that party and a new PM can be in place the same day.

It’s how the Tories ended up with Boris; not a serious politician, but a character that worked well on telly. Boris isn’t even his name! Very much the UK Trump, though without the slavishly devoted base; and when he became too toxic, he was dropped, though by that time the infection was too much for the electorate, so they saw out their term with zombie leadership.

(I don’t agree with Sunak, his policies or what he stood for, but he was at least a competent leader. Should’ve called the election much sooner - he might even have got a mandate.)

Given the protracted investigations now twelve days in with seemingly no transparency or facts having been established, the purported 60-day timeframe will surely shed some new light on events, just a month before the election. What odds we'll hear how Trump's shooting was merely AI propaganda, or that he applied fake blood to his ear, WWE-style!
