First tournament in a while where I really wasn't 'feeling it'. Obviously nice to see Wales & Iceland do well but for me the whole new format ruined the competition. All this '3rd' team bollocks meant that teams could blag their way into the knockouts with a 4/6 chance.
I felt the same. Woy never inspired me to have much faith in the squad. I would live Pardew as the next manager. But the axtra games created by the 3rd team situation allowed for extra days worth of promos from casino's
Portugal wouldn't have made it for starters, and the eventual permutations led to a lopsided draw with too many big teams meeting early on. Here's hoping the 'first two teams qualify' format makes a reappearance before the competition gets ruined altogether.
The extra games created too much money for them to shrink the tourney next time. I can see it expanding to so much that the Faro Isles will qualify and Australia and New Zealand will get a wild card entry
Otherwise why not start all teams in the knockout phases to begin with if they want to level the playing field?
I have it on good authority that Leicester City are going to be allowed to take part in 4 years time in order to add authenticity to the tourney.
Here's my future England tournament predictions for good measure:
2018- knocked out in second round by Iraq. Team freezes on pitch in more ways than one.
Rooney will still be there leading the line as mine sweeper.
2020- group stage
2022- quarter finals but knocked out by the powerhouse known as Chad. Brits rue that they never managed to conquer this nation in their history and it has now come back to haunt them. The team suffer from burnout in more ways than one.
2024- 2058 DNQ
But Rooney still insists he has something to offer the team, now aged 62
By this time the public will no longer take the piss out of him shagging grannies
