Can Casinomeister set something up so new registered users cannot post links for 7 days or something?

Looking around it seems its only new registered spammers that like to post links so I don't think this would affect the community to much?

It seems lately your being attacked by spammers more than usual.

Quite so. Normally Bryan filters all the new registrations so these spammer dweebs get weeded out fairly effectively. Unfortunately when Bryan is on vacation so too is that filtering process (it's a hands-on procedure), hence the surge we've been seeing this past week or so.

Fair enough, thanks for the reply. I had to install a plugin to restrict people from posting links on my site for 10 days as I got hit hard myself and its a PITA to go threw every single one.

Was just a thought

I don't agree with any "waiting period" as that will hurt the genuine new members.
Like many other things in our day-to-day life, why should the innocent majority have their freedom curtailed by the actions of the idiot minority?

We all agree spam is annoying and don't want to see it on the forum, but in reality it doesn't do much harm. It's not like the forum is full of suckers who are immediately going to click on any spammy links they see! All members have to do is report the post (takes a few seconds) and one of the mods can delete it (takes a few more seconds) - job done!

{Edit: Oooops - too early in the morning - I thought you said don't allow new users to post at all for 7 days!)

It's annoying as all get out when they start dredging up 5 and 6 year old threads to start spamming. Some idiot did about 5 threads in the buy/sell section the other day. You think you're reading something new and then realize you've read it before:mad:

FWIW, the most effective tool we have against these spammer activities (while Bryan is away) is you guys: you see these things far sooner than I do and when you Report the posts it gives us Mods a chance to react ASAP.

I know that while Bryan is away I watch the Reports MUCH closer than I typically would so again, "Report Post" is the #1 tool of choice. I know it's not an ideal situation but it's the best we've got at the moment and it does get the job done, not as cleanly as when Bryan is here to watch over things but there you go.

I had my very first spammer last week.. Right when I logged off bam he/she registered and did his nasty business right on my porch.
Wish there was some kind of blacklist, like hotels have em.. even though they say they don't.
First one is reason to celebrate though :yahoo:

And if you think it's bad here have a look at the gpwa forum lol.. at least here the normal people outnumber the spammers
