Having done a few and had no issues was just wondering a few things.
Say I win a massive amount and suddenly the casino wants SOW, I provide it and it doesn’t satisfy them are they entitled to take your winnings?
Also what If someone gifted you some cash to play and that was how you afforded your session, can they then say sorry we are taking your winnings as we thing you can’t afford it even though we took your deposit..
I mean there must be so many grey areas with this shite.

Loads of grey areas mate and it will sadly get worse before it gets better I feel.

As far as I understand things, no UK player can have their W/D held to ransom whether then fail to satisfy SoW or affordability checks.

The casino in question at the time would have to pay the withdrawal and then freeze/close your account or at least put deposit/loss limits (mandatory ones) in place.

I cannot see this ever working as sharing of info as I understand it is against data protection (unless withing the same casino group) so if casino A decides you can afford £50 a week say, then you could theoretically deposit £50 in 10 different casinos in the same week, providing they are not sister sites and totally different companies.

Another thing is time served players such as myself and many others on here are all in good stead, bills paid, and up to date, little or no debt and been in control for years will come under IMO needless extra scrutiny!

Here have been some threads where casinos have been stating that only way to get withdrawal approved is to complete SOW and provide all requested documents (which some have been quite extensive and some almost mission impossible even would like to share DNA with casino...).

Haven't really seen any outcome where final decision would have been confiscate winnings and deposits because player couldn't provide all requested documents. Somehow would assume that casino really would need to file SAR (Suspicious Activity Report) to authorities if they so strongly suspect that you have some non legit money to finance your gambling. Can't really see that many authorities would decide that casino can keep your money as you didn't provide them enough proof of your income....

Some casinos (Casumo at least here) were requesting 3rd party ID:s and some other proof of money transfers to friends account. Of course if you have loads of transactions on your account from private persons, there's question what the heck are these. These shouldn't be big problem if we speak about "normal" amounts what people are loaning to/from each others when out in pup or what so ever which is fcking normal these days when you transfer money in seconds with your mobile and as long these amounts are not remarkable, shouldn't be problem (even it seem to be).

Players should keep claiming complaints when getting some unrealistic requests to how far you ever need to (UKGC, MGA).

SOWs should not affect withdrawals at all. Casinos need to ask for SOW before accepting any deposit that would trigger one. That rule would stop this BS dead.

They can keep accepting your documents and not just paying out withdrawals when request is ongoing. That would be good approach that pay out that one pending withdrawal and inform that more can't be approved before verification is completed (unless player is categorized as high risk, then no withdrawals should be ever paid but most of players are not and have already long customer relationship with casino)

In carrying out the CDD measures, customers may be allowed to continue using their gaming account while the licensee obtains any necessary information from the customer concerned. However, until such time as the licensee obtains the necessary information and documentation from the customer to meet its CDD obligations, the customer is not to be allowed to effect any withdrawals from the account independently of the amount involved.

I doubt it would be legal - if they were refusing to pay a large win because miraculously they suddenly wanted SoW, then to refuse it for some spurious reason would put the onus on them to prove it was either dodgy funds or unaffordable. Even if they decided it was unaffordable, I doubt that would be applied after the event to your winnings, but rather from then onwards.

Can you imagine a Civil Court case?

CASINO "We denied xxx player a 10k win because we decided after the deposit he couldn't afford it."

PLAYER "Well I can't afford deposits now because they never paid my win."

JUDGE "Oh fack-orf casino, pay the man"

Cheers guys, what I’d like to know is who can actually decide if you can afford it or not.
There are millions of reasons why you can.
Yet a guy behind a computer says no.. based on what?
The whole thing is madness.

Pretty much like this...... Assume that when you have provided your all financial history since your first birthday present they find out what's your disposable income after all your expences etc..

I think @dunover while ago got some statement from casino that he couldn't afford deposits made some time 2017 or something.... which was really weird but as it wasn't April first, will believe him :)

I did. I have the e-mail to prove it.

Oh believe you mate.
Just worrying. No disrespect at all but if a affiliate with a casino gets this amount of shit imagine a player with no influence or knowledge would think.
They would run a mile.
This whole SOW thing is a shower of shit and this coming from someone who’s had no issues (yet)
It albeit confirms I’ll not be playing any Maltese casinos in future, just not worth it.
Also Boris Johnson and Cummings placed the horses head in chopleys bed...
wasn’t roshtein

Exactly Playford, the whole SOW thing is complete BS. Every persons finances are different. One person earning £100K a year could have less disposable income than another earning £15K. Then there are savings and investments etc.

And IMO it should be no business of casinos what your earnings and life finances are, this is very personal information and I refuse to share it with a dodgy as feck casino!

Which casino was it that wanted signed statements from third parties, along with copies of their ID? I can remember the thread but can't remember which casino it was. Was that Casumo?

way I see it is if you have a large or small withdrawal and you need to submit one of these SOW thingies, The casino should legaly not be able to withhold your winnings only put a hold on your account after the payout is made. you might not be able to deposit into a casino but you can sure as hell afford to withdraw.

The SOW requests i had where upon login. Casino calzone was the last. Where completed and verified within 24hrs.
Just is concerning as some other casinos i play at I’ve deposited thousands and had withdrawals, yet not heard a peep from them.
Calzone for example I’ve made one welcome offer deposit, that’s it. Yet they want my full SOW, then offer me a full welcome bonus again (with a max cashout of 2k) it seems this nonsense can be used as ever as the casino seems fit.
Good idea but how the hell do you regulate it?

I was reading something in one casino's help section the other day. It stated they had two choices- either make a SOW request after a rolling period (90 days I think) if deposits exceeded a certain threshold or make the request in a blanket like fashion after the customer had deposited a total of £2000 across their total relationship with the business. This would mean someone depositing £20 a week would be subject to checks after a couple of years of account opening, despite obviously posing no risk.

Guess which method this casino chose...

And there's the issue. Why would the licensing authority even give the casino the second choice?

I'll also add, there is absolutely NO reason why anyone depositing via a bank card should face this process at all. Here in the UK we have strict money laundering protocol with dedicated fraud teams attached to each bank. If anything untoward was happening, the bank account of the individual would already have been frozen pending investigation.

I'm with others on this. As soon as a SOW comes through, the account is being closed as there is no way I'm providing bank statements and payslips to a tin pot Maltese clip joint.
