Slots with a low possible max win

Feel like an idiot but I don't really ever check what the max possible win is on a slot I just play them if I enjoy them or like the look of them. The only one I really knew the max win of is DOA2 because of how popular that slot is. Anyway I was checking out the max wins on a couple other slots I play and they were shockingly low-2000x and 5000x. I suppose it was obvious because they show the possible wins there on the screen but I thought at least you might get a good win accumulation with the bonus. Nope the bonuses hardly ever pay our more than 10x either. This is 9 pots of gold and gold blitz ultimate.

Suppose these slots aren't bad for a short go but when you think how quick they eat your money, you could easily blow through an amount similar to the max win in a matter of days. And it's not like the max win will ever drop anyway. I really should've paid more attention before I sunk a load of cash into them.

Guess I'll just stick to the jackpot slots (under no illusion I'll actually win a jackpot but at least the chance is there) and DOA2. Anyone else ever been caught out playing these type of slots or do you religiously check what the max win is along with RTP?

2000 and 5000x aren't low amounts. These were high max wins ten years ago. The chasing of bigger and bigger max win numbers by providers (in response to demand from players) spiralled into a feedback loop that has created 300,000x slots theses days.

BGaming has lots of 5000x high volatility games and I probably prefer those since less of the RTP is distributed to the absolutely huge wins.

Those slots you mentioned are indeed awful though, I'll give you that.

I had actually thought this post was about slots with low wins like 30-75x, which can be very useful for two-tiering a big win with lots of wagering, if you are into that kinda thing (doesn't violate two tiering / strategy terms)

There were two games, clones, Time is Money and Clockwork mice where the JP was / is 250x.
However, IMO, both great games to play - AND, unlike most games, nice little JP tune and sequence to boot.
Some pragmatics are as low as 1000x, which at least makes them fun to play.

The drain on some of these super high variance games with huge max wins but 400+ spins for a feature is just tiresome IMO.

I think you’ll find that the slots with the higher max wins are much more volatile. A slot with a 25,000x max win has to pay for the occasional max win it spits out, and payment inevitably comes from giving less mid range wins.*

You won’t get a whole lot of 1000x+ wins, and when you do, you’ll feel special. I’ve had three 5000x max wins, and on my stake of 0.20, I won 1000.00 each time. That’s a great return on a 0.20 bet.

* I’m not involved in developing slots but this is the way I understand it.

Not all slots that have a high max win play all bad.

Take Fire in the Hole 2 - max win of 65,000x but base game without any upgrades plays well and is not too scared to regularly dish out 100x wins to keep you going.

Yes, you will eventually lose your dosh until the bonus that comes in frequently pays big, but at least you get some play time for your money

I suppose they were just a lot lower than I was expecting considering how much I've spent on them. It's not like slingo which also has a low max win but at least you get lots of playtime on them. I don't mind that. But gold blitz ultimate I mean wow I could probably spend the equivalent of a max win amount in a week or less! Annoying because I'm due a bonus on there as the bonus bar's almost full and it ain't triggering. And I really don't wanna play it again but I put all that into it and built the bonus up. Maybe my beef is mainly with that one slot

I do get what you mean tho like DOA2 I rarely pick the high noon bonus as I know how hard it is to win. Makes me wonder how anyone gets anything on that slot. I got 5x hats the other day on max stake and it only paid out £200. Sometimes I've been lucky on the train heist bonus. Still it has to be better than gold blitz even without a mega win!

I never accept slots bonuses, maybe I should?

Is that one of the games that has the three metres that are "fake" and have nothing to do with increased chance and are only there for "entertainment"? I think those are a different thing so I'm probably wrong.

Obviously its a personal preference thing, some people don't like to be locked in to wagering. Parachute bonuses would obviously be the best of both worlds as your cash is yours to do as you please with, although occasionally gets beholden to the bonus rules. "Cashable" bonuses with no early withdrawal opportunities are also great, you just need to know what terms to look for - max bet, cap, wager amount, wager type - while also being cognizant of where you are playing.

A lot of people tend to avoid bonuses as they are scared of the rules, or they think they are a trap to take their money or they just prefer the freedom to bet and play what they want... but it's one of the only ways to gain an edge over the casino for once, so it's in your best interest to take it as long as its got fair terms.

There are times were you will win a lot of money and lose it all over the course of wagering and that will suck. You will, however, in the long run benefit from taking bonuses.

All I would advise is:
  • Read the bonus rules carefully, adhere to them at all costs. I tend to read offer specific, bonus terms and general terms (if applicable). You always want to locate the max bet, max winnings, wagering and min/max deposits.
  • If you aren't a lowroller, don't deposit the full whammy, find the sweet spot (you would need a basic ev calculator for this). For a certain offer, the diminishing returns from £300->£500 aren't worth it while the jump from £100 or £200 to £300 is.
  • Be selective with your slot choice. You don't need to go optimal (finding the 97, 98 and occasionally 99% choices), but you should definitely be making an effort to play in the 96.5-97% range as the higher the RTP, the higher the EV. Playing under 96% (when better is available) is throwing too much EV away, although on offers like 400% RTGs, they are still great value at maybe $50 deposits, $10 bets and an assumed 91% RTP.
  • If you can afford it, bet the maximum allowed. If no maximum, it would probably be best to only bet up to $20/£20/C$30 unless you are 0% risk averse. The higher the volatility the better the ev and the two main contributors to volatility are bet size and slot variance.
  • Minimum risk is bad for EV and is not a recommended strategy. Low variance and small bets will combine to make the offer negative or low value.
  • If you do win a nice chunk, don't be afraid to protect it by moving to a lower variance slot. It's not against the rules unless you drop the stake (usually by over 50% depending on term) or move to a different game type or make bets that are "safe". A low variance slot can still lose plenty of money. This isn't the optimal strategy but it does make the smooth out the variance.
  • Be aware of offers that are like LeoVegas' welcome offer. I refer to these as "post-wager", since the bonus is only awarded after completing the wagering, in stark contrast to the bonus usually being immediately available to play with. These offers, unless the wagering is very low (like x25b or less) are terrible value, but obviously still slightly better than playing with just cash (acting almost as weak cashback)
  • Avoid dodgy casinos with both cash play and bonus play. I personally would still play at certain ones knowing how to navigate certain risks and delays/problems, but without a good knowledge base its best to stick to the safe ones.
  • Remember, this is still for entertainment and you'll probably still lose, all you've done is nudge the odds in your favour ever so slightly. You would need a very large amount of money, proportionate to your deposit sizes, to make it impossible to bankrupt yourself if you constantly played offers. Plus, playing for profit instead of fun is in violation of most casinos terms.
  • If you play bonuses like this, you will lose access to them at a higher rate.

Thanx for this, and probably explains why i was account closed at Leo Vegas.... 100 + 100% bonus, 35x wagering once you in bonus funds.
Deposited £200, and lost £395 of it, all at min stake - within about three hours - really bad run across probably 30-40 games.
Knocked it to a £1 stake on Bonanza, for the last fiver and hit something like 480x back in the game with a decent chance of clearing wagering - so i went back to min stakes.
TBH, I wasnt even remotely aware that this might be a rule - anyway, after another few hours of wagering, with about 10% to go and a balance north of £320 they closed my account, returning the £200 about 5 days later.
They would not tell me what i had breached, but i'm guessing its this.

Probably although you might have had merit in arguing that 0.2 was your standard stake and that the 1.0 bets were abnormal and explainable by the end of balance. Although, depending on how the "stake reduction after win" term was written they may leave no room for leniency.

Would have definitely been worth a 3rd party complaints or ADR. Was this a long time ago? By the sound of it was as the Leo Vegas offer was still a deposit match rather than cash reward.

I'm playing slots for about 15 years on and off ,I've easily done a over a half a million to a million spins and I've had 2 wins around 2000x in that time. And about 5 or 6 1000x hits . 2 to 5000x are high compared to the amount of times you win one . All these 20,000 x wins are probably once in a lifetime hits , if even that.

There's just one. Every time you get two bonuses on certain reels it fills the bar so the next time two bonuses show up the 3rd one should too and a bonus round triggered. So it's not totally useless-it did keep triggering pretty soon after I filled the bar before. Of course the last couple times I played it nothing  so it's still stuck on an almost full bar. I know the other type of games you mean that don't get you any closer to a bonus but I think this actually does. Bonus hardly ever triggers without the bar being almost full anyway.

Wow thank you for all that info it's so helpful. I will have to think about taking a bonus next time. I just opened 2 new casino accounts a couple weeks ago and rejected all bonuses unfortunately!

When you look at it like that you're right. I've done dismally on slots compared to what I've put in. Regular slots (excluding slingo) I don't think I've won more than £2k at a time on, I've got my balance up higher than that but as a standalone win-I think it was £2k. Honestly they are just money pits, compare it to bingo where I've won £3k twice, £4k (was a 12k jackpot but shared with others) £5k, and the biggest was £10k a couple years ago. Slots have never been close to that. Even though I probably spend 5x more on them.

Yeah probably at least 4/5 years ago.
TBH, cos I got deposit back I just thought fuck it

This is very true,, I have had 3 x £1000 wins on bingo (shared with own mates like but even so) and thats for £12 for the evening, and a decent priced bar.

We such mugs for slots... :)
