Slots - High vs Low Rollers

I am interested in knowing from the experts how slots work exactly. They are manipulated by a randomizer is my understanding. With the percentage set to industry standards I would assume.

The question I have is this. If you are a low roller are you more apt to hit than someone betting $10.00/spin for example. My question being is it set straight across the board for any bet or set to the bet amount?

On another note. Let us say a particular slot has 3 features available to be hit. Are you less likely to hit a feature or more likely to hit a feature? If only one feature is available are you more or less likely to hit a feature?

Since I am not playing too much just a few small deposits here and there I have a lot of time to ponder questions such as these.

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment! :notworthy

If we make the assumption that the main providers play by the book, then on 5 reel slots, the only thing that a high roller may [benefit] from is a random jackpot which are supposedly, in some instances, trigerred more by bigger bets. Although obviously the risk is relative, so it's not really a benefit at all.

On the above assumption, there is therefore no advantage to either high-rolling or low-rolling, nor are the features more or less likely to hit. However, there are a few 3-reel slots that pay more for playing "max coins", though I haven't come across this concept on a bonus slot.

So in my opoinion, "no" there are no advantages to be gained by betting bigger.

As a famous low-roller, I prefer my methods as obviously to start with my cash lasts longer!
I normally only have time to play 2 or 3 MG's a month because $100 can keep me going for up to 2 weeks with quite a few long sessions. ;)

I guess it must feel great to hit a HUGE (value) win, but it's all relative - I'm sure a low-roller hitting a 500:1 shot gets just as much pleasure as a high-roller!
I got a $206.54 win from a 40c spin (516:1) on Loaded at Spin Palace in January - and cracked open the champagne!
That helped me make $200 profit from a $50 deposit (+ $50 bonus) = 400% = not bad eh?
(I actually deposited on Dec-25th, and didn't finish WR until Jan-26th!)

Thanks so much Simmo! I have become a low roller today. Since it is highly unlikely I will see my winnings if I win anything figured it best to keep it at a small amount I won't be seeing.

Addisyn, for me the trick to low rolling is, if a slot isn't hitting at all, I get away from it after a few spins. I know that sounds like common sense be it a high roller or a low roller but I used to stick with a slot telling myself it "had" to hit sometime. I play a few dollars and it it doesn't feel right I jump to the next one or try something new out. Low rolling let's you try out slots you wouldn't normally play I think. I know we all could play in fun mode but then you just end up hitting something and wishing you had been playing for real. I also leave a slot after I hit the main feature (free spins or bonus rounds). Heck, the slot will be there next time, no rush to give it back money if I am up. MG has so many slots you can move around and check them out enjoying the features and what not when you low roll.

My favorite slots to low roll on 50 cents and less.

1. ho ho ho (Nice amount of free spins and often retriggers)
2. Flying Circus (another nice amount of free spins and retriggers)
3. Summertime (Cool sounds and I hit the free spins a lot for some reason)
4. Moonshine (nice return if it is hitting but if you don't get three bottles within the first 25 spins run away from it and count your blessings)
5. Gift Rap (My favorite slot to hit and run on, 25 cent spins get the bonus round and leave it, it can give some nice returns as well for a low roller)

The low roll and hope slots for me are as follows:
(meaning a few spins, hit the feature and be greatful but don't expect it)

1. Avalon
2. Loaded
3. Thunderstruck (My all time favorite slot but can be brutal)
4. Harvey's
5. Tally Ho
6. Isis

Slot I would never touch unless I was low rolling and only to hit the bonus

1. Cashville (great return if you hit the bonus but I wouldn't ever play it for over 20 cents a spin)

There you have my take on the low rolling :).

The key difference between high and low rolling is variance. With large bets, you have a greater chance of winning big or losing big/quickly. Overall house edge should still be the same, as is the chance of hitting a rare win (aside from some special rules for certain jackpots). However, the difference in variance has a big impact on bonus play. When playing with bonuses, expected gain/loss varies depending on bet size, as well as the chance of successfully completing wagering requirement.

Great question. Your mileage may vary but what has worked well for me is this: I low-roll because I don't have a huge bankroll and I want to 'stay alive' long enough to hit a feature or sizable win. When I am over my original deposit I bet bigger (how much depends on how much of 'their' money I have at the time) This way I get to be a high roller with 'free' money.

When I have that cushion to play with it really feels like I earned it, playing all those low rolls. I something very similar to what KK and Simmo describe on their websites, but instead of cashing out portions of my original deposit or saving it for another day, I just use the win to play like I would if I could :)

Many times in the past I have taken a hundred bucks and gone bet max on Tom Braider :) usually picking up enough to have at least 4 pulls. it has never worked, but someday it could! I gamble on a budget, and if I feel like entertaining myself with a quickness, what the heck, most sessions end up losers anyway;) But in the longrun I am well up on bucks.
Playcheck only goes back 21 days or I would show a screenshot where my girl was doing .75 pulls on tombraider and hit 5 scatters during the free spins, it was something like 18,474/1 nickle - nine hundred some bucks with a net well over a thousand on the free spins. On a seventy five cent bet! Ah, the sound and the fury! It would have been like 50k if she was betting max. One day I hit five roger roosters in cashanova when I was low rolling. (playcheck post in winners screenshots around jan 20) So, to make a long story longer, when I can, I DO roll high. Why not?

Right now I'm studying the infamous Zoozie thread from about a year ago (thanks KK!) and I subscribe to casinocity times, the gaming gurus there have great info on how slots work (B&M)

Good luck in and out of the casinos! (to quote a guru) :)

I am a low roller but I have had some good hits the last couple of days playing "Couch Potato". I have hit the 2 TV's with the blue 7 twice in a week for a return of $312.50 each time. I got these on a 25 cent bet. (I am trying to post in the winner screenshots thread but I can't figure out how to re-size pics). I enjoy the 3-line slots and play them 99% of the time.

I find if I low roll and lose, I don't hate myself as much the next morning. (it sucks when the biggie comes along in a game like Couch Potato though. 2,000for 1 coin bet, 5,000 for 2 coins, and a whopping 15,000 for 3 coins).

Good luck and thnx for the thread. It is fun to read how other people play slots- :)

Wow I thank you all for your great responses! I haven't been playing in the MGs with all the upheaval. Do you think it is safe to venture into those waters with $50.00?

I have basically been playing Hype since their slots are fun. The RTGs are just brutal and I don't enjoy low rolling there for some reason.

:p

Addisyn- I am playing at Intertops (they are very good people to deal with IMO) and used my credit card to fund. I was surprised at how easy it was and even more surprised that the bank let the transactions go through. Probably a stupid thing to do, but I just said the hell with it. I work hard for my $$ and I really enjoy the on-line slots. I don't go to the Indian B&M's around my area as they are full of sad/mad looking grouchy gamblers that would rather kill ya than look at ya. I live in a small area and a lot of the people I see there are customers at my business, relatives, acquaintances, or friends. Bad enough I have to flip their burgers and serve their beers. :D

BTW- I have not tried to withdraw yet. I'd better go check that out. Wish me luck and lots of luck is right back at ya!

In bricks and mortars, higher denomination slots ($1) typically have a higher payout percentage than lower denom (nickels). This can be due to either different payout tables, or just different machines.

However, on a given slot, playing more coins really shouldn't have an impact on the house edge, just the size of your wins and losses.

I don't go to the Indian casinos for just the same reason. The atmosphere is less than inviting.

Right now I am going to give Intertops a try. I will let you know how it goes and I am going to try those slots you suggested Rettahs. Some of them I have played others will be new to me. I like Moonshine a lot except when I find that rotten free spins over card first!

Well said  Variance is a major factor in slots play.

One thing you might like to add KK. If you are using a Microsoft Multimedia keyboard or similar, you may need to take F-Lock off before you ALT+Print Screen as it won't work otherwise :)

As far as withdrawing is concerned, do not worry! They said I'd see it in my bank in 5-8 working days, and it came in 5.
