Should "collecting" slots be illegal?

Vikings Go Berserk comes mind of a collection game that I think should not be allowed. In that game you level up the Vikings to get into the bonus round, but the closer you are to unlocking the bonus round the RTP in the base game drops massively.

This also makes it unfair when casinos offer the game on things like Casumo's Reel Race, because players who will have vikings near unlocked will get mostly dead spins vs a player who is just starting out.

This is the only game as far as I know where I have seen such blatant RTP adjustment in the base game.

I can't say I have noticed any difference in the base game when you are closer, so I think that's not true.

However one thing is annoying is that they use a different reelset during the berzerker spins with far less vikings on the reels, but that is normal during bonus rounds to use different reels

Pretty sure @tracemonkey confirmed that a base game has to stay consistent at each stake. Whilst some games will vary RTP depending on stake it is not permissible to fluctuate from spin to spin. Obviously bonus games are another thing altogether.

Also a progressive amount is irrelevant. If a slot say has 93% plus 3% progressive contribution the reflected RTP Is effectively attainable on each spin. If you were playing on your own for example and staked £1 you could win the progressive on the first spin. Yes, it’d be 3p but you can win it. Next spin the progressive would go up to 6p. The RTP theoretically can be hit with each and every spin.

This has been talked about before loads of times, they don't have to stay consistent at each stake but the RTP must be the same. Trance has also confirmed that somewhere. But you can also have games using more than one reel set for the base game providing that is also a random event. eg set 1 and 2 but randomly selected each spin with or without weighting. This method is often used to give the illusion of a lot of near misses for feature for example.

Not quite what I meant about the progressive, it was more that in theory on a lot of progressives there comes a point where a positive EV can be expected which is way more likely not going to be on your first spin compared to future spins but yes each spin would have equal chance of hitting on a standard progressive.
Also if you was to play it say three months with your 93 and 3% example yet someone won the progressive then you win it 10 mins later you would in theory not get your RTP back as all your previous 3%'s have been paid to the winner and you would only get the newest contributions, however this does also depend on how the re-seed is funded as that can vary too.

Must be won by type jackpots are different as they get easier the nearer to the threshold they get.

But as most players here have commented and know, if you play a slot with a progressive you'll never get your full RTP if you never snag a progressive, but thats the price you pay for possibly winning a life changing amount.

Ah, ok. I thought the base game had to be consistent insomuch as the relevant outcomes should be possible on each spin depending on their setting. Ie. The odds of hitting a jackpot spin must always be the same as is the odds of hitting a min win.

Yep, effectively a progressive is essentially your entry to winning the lotto and your most likely RTP is that without progressive (and let’s be honest likely we’ll below that for most!). For progressives though, at least those figures are up front so you know what the score is.
