Self exclusion and deposit limits

I've been 'clean' from gambling for a few years now, decided that the bonus rounds disliked me and I'm always chasing a never ending goal so I called it a day.
But a few days back I relapsed and signed up to an accredited casino and decided to deposit, I asked them to put limits in place to which they told me this wasn't available instantly and could take up to 48hours. I wanted to place a £30 limit but ended going a bit over this.

I was always self excluded from their sister casino for my problem with gambling. But I was allowed to continue to play and I managed and deposit and win to which I asked for the withdrawal to be flushed, the withdrawal was flushed but when I lost the rest, asked for the flushed withdrawal to be reversed, to which I was told that this couldn't be done, but was then told it can be done, and it was reversed.

Now my problem is that I only played at accredited casinos, and over the years I've self excluded myself from more or less every single and upon joining this casino I asked them to check my details to whether I was registered here, they replied that I wasn't and was free to register again. Then when speaking to their email support they said that I confirmed that I knew I had an account there before

This isn't about losing, this is about getting past the 'defences' in place to stop someone like me playing. I had self excluded myself from their sister casino, locked my account previously at this casino (To which they are now saying I need a written confirmation if I want to re-open) Why didn't they ask me to do this before I signed last time?

I don't know whether the withdrawal would have gone through, but what I do know is that every withdrawal I've made whilst have a gambling problem has never seen my bank account.

They say at the bottom of every email that they take responsible gambling very seriously but on every email they've always said how much they'd like to have me back, and to just give them a shout when I'm ready... I couldn't have made it any more clear that I had a problem.

Hi I understand where you are coming from, and some casinos/ groups are better than others in having clear cut policies when it comes to exclusion ect. I know Microgaming can do a network block as they have had me blocked for ages now. Never again will I be able to deposit at any MG casino even if I wanted to , same goes for Kanawake they also will impliment a network wide blocks. It does not stop you signing up for a casino, but lo and behold when you try and deposit all methods are blocked. Cards, neteller, anything and everything.

At the end of the day it does come down to the person with the gambling problem, getting the right mindset and getting support and help, as they will always be places where you can gamble if you really want to. But what is important about sef exclusion as it can serve to limit a persons choices and make it harder to carry through or act on an urge to gamble. And as any recovering CG will tell you, you need as many blocks in place as you can to assist you in overcoming this addiction. The way some casinos operate in the way of self exclusion is a disgrace. But there is help out there. You probably don't want to hear this, but it has helped at least one person I know who has a really bad problem, so I hope it can help you too. Please don't take it personally as it applies to everyone with an addiction.

The first step is to own YOUR problem. It's time to stop worrying about what some casino did or didn't do, or whether they would have paid, or anything else related to what anyone else did or didn't do. It is YOU that has to stop. The casino did not contact itself to check if they could register YOU as a player. The casino did not call YOU and say "Hey we know you have a problem, so come and play some more!". The casino did not come to YOUR house and deposit YOUR money against YOUR will.

Do you see the theme here? It's all about YOU.....stop blaming others.

My suggestions if you are serious about stopping:

1. Email every casino you can think of with a standard exclusion request including all your info. State that you do not want the account re-opened or a new account under any circumstances. (You need to be aware that the software in most cases will still allow you to signup, but if you deposit and win you will most likely have your deposit refunded and account closed anyway). If you PM me I can put you on to a guy I know who runs a self-exclusion database.

2. Get to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting ASAP. It doesn't matter if it's a distance away - think about how far you would go to gamble if you really wanted to.

3. PM Bryan and ask to be placed in the "quit gambling" group where you can read non-gambling related stuff here at the forums. Even better, ask him to close your account totally and request an IP ban (depending on how serious you are).

4. Uninstall every casino and consider a product such as gamblock.

5. Close any ewallet you have and ask for exclusion permanently.

6. Think of something you used to really enjoy, but no longer participate in......and organise to get back into it. Filling in spare time can help enormously.


There is probably other things that others might suggest, but if you're serious about getting better, you will do these things above ASAP. If not, then you are deliberately leaving loopholes open for the future, and you will almost certainly fail.

Thanks for your post. Very very insightful.

I must be nearly self-excluded from most now anyway, which is a start. I'm currently trying to find out how this network block works as that'll be extremely helpful.
