Rizk Source of Wealth Bullshit!

Well the theory that the UKGC work by is that, if they have funds to gamble and that these funds were legally obtained, then there HAS to be some documented proof, a money trail if you will, that they can use to show where the funds came from.

Thanks for the reply,

Ok, but where does it end?

Like ok i show that the funds came from my partners bank.

Is it not going to be a case of where did she get them from, would i then have to send copies of her bank statements? does she not have to prove where she got them? if not why not and if so how stupid!

And where did the person who paid her get them from?

If it was an employer where did the employer get the funds from......and can they prove it. Its just as easy for an employer to be laundering than us lot!!

This isnt a dig at you but i would need answers to these questions before i risked getting an account at Rizk TBH.

Rizk Casino is an award winning Accredited Casino at Casinomeister
Could I ask how would you deal with someone who don't have a job and isn't on any benefits so no P60 but has funds to gamble?

Is that situation or similar, basically condemning the person to never be able to deposit, play and withdraw? Due to they would have none of the evidence to show?

in a nutshell yes, most of the barrage of stupid laws and regulations from the eu are produced under the one size fits all mantra and of course with a hefty dose

of bullying, (and can i just mention this includes the uk cause there seems to be a bit of confusion with some of the posts on here the uk has not left the eu yet

and is still subject to all laws and regulations) i am one of those with a private income with no proof, i mentioned before i get an allowance from my 4 brothers

to look after our 80 yr old mum, which is fine suits us but how do i prove this for a casino the only scenario i can see is would be along the lines of,

question/ hi guys can you send me a copy's of your bank statements showing your income and that you pay me x amount,

answer/ why,

me /so i can prove to a online casino that my gambling budget is legit,

answer/ (brothers quickly checking its not April fools day) er no F--- off / telephone click.

and all though im trying to be humorous its will be simple a case of i wont be able to play online anymore, although im still holding out some hope

when the new data protection act comes in (25th may) is gonna have to cause a rethink because they wont be able to demand this kind of documentation,

but until then this is just a kind of limbo for the likes of me,

dpp00 I think in a situation like yours, it should depend on the amount you were depositing over a year, how much was recycled from wins etc.. low rollers [I include myself in this] should not be the focus of these checks unless something in the way they gamble/play slots raises suspicion. I think ladies of leisure who perhaps use their hubby's generosity would be in the same boat as you if this system is applied with no common sense, having to then send their husband's bank statements and proofs i.e not their own.

Thanks for the reply,

Ok, but where does it end?

This is exactly the same question that we asked and the answer was as I gave - we have to prove the provenance of the funds. That is it, zero flexibility or tolerance.

Online Casino's are now being scrutinized in the same way that banks and financial institutions are and we are also required to show that you can afford to play. Think of it like applying for a mortgage, for this you have to show documented proof of your earnings/revenue streams (and yes i know this can be hard to prove in certain situations) and then the Mortgage Provider signs off on whether the multiplier of your earnings that they will offer you (this is not stipulated by law afaik - or at least it didnt used to be in the UK). In addition the Mortgage Provider can ask you about all your other outgoings to see whether you can afford the repayments every month - what that amount is, again, is not stipulated by any law. However they have to show proof that this information has been harvested and that you can afford the loan.

Now of course the debate can and will rage around whether you should treat online casino's in the same way as mortgage providers, however the reality of the situation is that this is how it is right now and i personally dont see the situation changing --> ever. If anything the requirements on us will become stricter.

obviously, for the casinos there are going to be costs for all this extra admin work and the improved data storage systems required, plus a fair percentage of customers will simply walk away [not launderers but normal people who feel uncomfortable and worried about sending out their personal financial documents].

Perhaps this will lead to further amalgamation of the gambling industry, with the smaller casinos combining into larger groups or being bought out by the big firms.

Or maybe just get rid of all the 100’s of ‘chancer’ sites. Who jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of making a quick buck, with a white label site.
Those ones who have tiny withdrawal limits, because they’re underfunded and under resourced. But who are diluting the market to the cost of the serious, legitimate operators

Or will lead to a wider black market of casinos who don’t require this. So the whole protecting the consumer thing has been a complete failure...

True those sites chancing their arm could mostly go, it is a bit like the wild west out there, are these white label casinos operating from one parent central office but have say 5 different websites/casino names?

Just received an email from High Roller Casino, another MTST site, which includes this .....

"After you receive a notification asking you to fill in the SoW Questionnaire, you will be able to access your account, but gameplay, deposits and withdrawals might be restricted until you fill in the questionnaire and provide any required supporting documents."

So they're still threatening to hold withdrawals to ransom, should you not want to or not be able to provide them with whatever they request

Definitely not
and here's the email I sent to them to say that...

Thank you for your email. But having seen (via the Casinomeister website) how MT Secure Trade has been implementing these new regulations at Rizk casino, by holding withdrawals to ransom.
I shall not be making and more deposits at ANY MTST sites.
Especially after reading this section of your email...

You can block deposits because of whichever regulations.
But as far as I'm concerned, any deposits you accept, which consequently become a withdrawal, should be honoured and not used as a means of forcing customers to provide information.

yes I think this is the right approach to give them your feedback rather than just move on, I'm wondering whether european customers will react to these SOW checks differently to UK players because they're use to identity cards etc... I feel in the UK we are worried about fraud from our data/private information getting into the wrong hands, and a lot of scam merchants seem to operate in the UK so it breeds fear.

There WILL be documents, money trails, etc. The problem is that they are not always of a narrowly defined format such as P60, printed and posted statements from traditional bank with salary input every month, etc. With so much being "done online" now, there is often little in the way of "papers" to back anything up, and often to produce "papers" the player has to rely on screen shots and downloads and then using software to convert them to "papers".

In the case here, the main aggravating factor was the insistence that the casino be sent the names and addresses of the individual clients along with their individual payments for services rendered. It seems the casino and rep can't grasp what this actually means in reality, and what a HUGE issue this could be under GDPR if these third party clients were to ever find out. It was Deeplay's flat refusal to expose the data of his clients that caused this issue to drag on for so long.

Think yourself lucky.

Guts just allowed me to deposit and as soon as the balance was showing, locked my account with their SOW screen.

I think not guys.

Do you mind me asking the size of the deposit which triggered this please?

Regardless shit timing, like we wanna relax and have a few evening spins and that won't be sorted until tomorrow "admin staff time" at the earliest maybe?

Imagine most can only afford one deposit per day, if that, would proper turn me into raving idiot mode

Different story if they'd barred any transactions prior to depositing, could have simply played elsewhere and done the SoW ready for another day but, oh no, have to make an already bad situation worse!

guts had also taken my deposit then slammed the door shut, this is why i shall never return to playing any site with the house of MTsecure sites , even after speaking with the Captain , although at least he did try to find out to where the problem had started , little he could do anyways , im old fashioned in things like this , burnt once never return.

A whole £100. Obviously too frightened to do at any other time in case they dont get the docs and lose players. Which they would.

So instead snidely hold a withdrawal/deposit to ransom for the docs.

Same result unfortunately. Even the likes of Gowild didnt do it like this, and that’s saying something.

P..s still no secure upload links. Its GDPR day on Friday guys - I give it a month before a big, fat fine.

I'd say the size of deposit doesn't matter. It's probably just the act of making a deposit which triggers it.

So they're now holding deposits to ransom

I had a request from VS (IIRC), it was just a quick questionnaire. But it was triggered when I logged in, NOT after I'd deposited

I think it's time the UKGC got to know about what's going on with MTST and the 'methods' they're using to force customers into SOW requests

So now £100 deposits trigger AML/ SoW requests? I thought it was intended for high- risk, high- turnover players? What's happening :confused:

Hence why I asked mate!

From knowledge, what I've read on top, others posts they have such a total misunderstanding of what is required.

It would be a lot of hard work but they should do a 'sift' and target the mid to hi rollers preemptively, save a whole load of future headaches not to mention business

I've had SoW "its on its way" type e-mails from about 4 MT casinos now.

Whether AML or RG as "their" reasoning, I am either laundering cash in £25's or cannot afford £25 deposits should I be asked for to complete this properly in the future. Both are way off the mark.

Surely by now some casino owner, somewhere should ask for better clarification, targeting £100 depositors (ok, occasional not over and over) is purely and simply a waste of time and resources.

Really start to be soon easier to get mortgage than play slots online...... To continue playing, it seems more and more that it will be only one place where to play when all UKGC/MGA licensed casinos have this nice SOW process in place. Playing in many places will be nightmare as you constantly have to provide something somewhere, if bother to do it once, not going to do it all sites where possibly could play otherwise (or then it really will be just first deposit for fun/test).

Not really interested to collect all information time to time if i for example withdraw nice big from some site and therefore play bigger than usually to other one, where i have provided my SOW with payslips, bank statements and what ever demanded, then getting again triggered that i'm depositing more than my SOW state that i should afford based to SOW i provided, so do i have problems to control my gambling or do i have some criminal incomes...?

Avoiding this can't really see other option than playing only in one casino where have supported these documents and make sure to ask beforehand that how much you let me loose monthly with my income without triggering to be criminal or gambling addict. I'm pretty sure that here as well us who like to play, have some occasional differences in deposit patterns or game behavior and providing every time proof of where that money is from just bit absurd.

And whole point in this, if it would be central database for all UKGC/MGA licensed casinos, it would maybe make some difference when monitoring players total spending vs incomes and winnings would also register there. Now what ever that trigger is triggering that only block player from one site and he/she can go with dirty money or gambling problems to next site. Fully understand that if there start to be transactions 10k week (or what ever is amount what really would be worth to see if everything is ok) but if some £100 deposit block your account (must be based to life time deposits or deposits from some period), don't really know how crime and gambling addiction world will be created with that.....

We hope you’re enjoying all that Guts has to offer. But now, we need to talk about some serious stuff for a bit.

Recent email from guts:

"We take your protection very seriously. We’re committed to adhering to strict industry regulations, and we continuously endeavour to maintain a fun and safe gaming environment for all Guts players.

Soon, we’ll ask you, and all our players, a few questions to do with KYC (Know Your Customer) and Anti-Money Launderingregulations, as part of our Source of Wealth Questionnaire.

Once you get a notification requesting you to fill in the Source of Wealth Questionnaire, you’ll have account access, butgameplay, deposits and withdrawals will be restricted until it’s completed.

Finally, it’s very important you send us accurate information.

We’re aware some players filled in a similar questionnaire recently, however all players will still be required to complete the newer, updated version."

Cheers for the above updates on guts deposits. Maybe the email i got (as im sure most did) should have included the fact it will likely be asked for after depositing and the deposit will be held to ransom until i prove what i currently cannot . Im a low roller atm and would as john said go into raving idiot mode if they did this ;) , so ceartinly wont be risking donating some money to them.

So let me get this straight: casinos are requesting SoW verification post- deposit? If it's that important, why not do this pre- deposit, as opposed to holding players' money to ransom? :what:

@SpinUk What action do you intend to take? I initially thought that in your situation I'd probably just blow the balance and walk but because they've frozen all funds so your completely snookered. Either you do SOW or its £100 down the drain (assuming they take the same approach as rizk and withhold funds).

Putting yourself in the casinos shoes - locking immediately after a deposit is probably the most effective to get the user to comply. Completely cynical of course.

100% its more effective. However, if you conduct your business by putting a proverbial gun to your client’s head to comply, your going to get burnt.

Hopefully this will be resolved amicably today.

Helpfully the site appears to have down all morning too.

Locking deposits is better than allowing the player to lose it all. It causes the casino to have to hold, and secure, "dead money" that can't be banked as revenue as it hasn't been lost, can't be returned until SoW is completed, and lastly creates a locked account that prevents a player from generating further revenue. It may also cause these players to be frightened off from ever depositing again even when the SoW has been completed.

The email also says "ALL players" will have to fill this SoW in, yet the regulations are indicating that this should ONLY happen when something the player has done causes suspicion to be cast on the validity of their funds. It's an admission of what some have been saying, this is ALL players that are being swept up by this, not just those that raise suspicions.

It's also odd that Casino Rewards, also UK licensed and bound by the same rules, has not SoW'd me even though I deposit THOUSANDS every month, and often withdraw similar amounts. Yet, players at MT sites are seeing a full on SoW with proofs being triggered by deposits of £100, even less in some cases. Are CR headed for a fine, or are they simply using common sense and only issuing SoW to those players who raise suspicions.

Surely this is BS on top of BS though?

The whole idea of SoW is based upon suspected AML or possible RG.

A deposit locked BEFORE any gambling (whether responsible or not) is done or any cash (whether dirty or clean) is played thru the sites is not achieving either ???

Those accounts which require SoW checks should, as I've said over and over and as VWM backs up above be firstly IDENTIFIED and then 'chased'

If casinos / casino groups cannot but help themselves with this "blanket attack" then if they wish to target account "XYZ" for a SoW check, the account should be locked FULLY, including the ability to be able to deposit.

I just hope (but think - no chance) that this situation and the understanding thereof at least begins to be correctly understood before it snowballs into the biggest ball of confusion and stress ever witnessed in the online industry.

If a deposit amount would knock a client into SOW territory, then the account should be locked on deposit attempt rather than after the transaction.

They could have easily done that, but instead they took the blackmail approach.

Classy move.

Exactly what I said yesterday and above :)

Problem is IMO they have no idea what "SoW territory" is

The 'blackmail' approach is going to lose them a LOT of business, especially from us forum users!

They pretty much turned into a cash only casino anyway, since the demise of their monday deal. Rizk at least do throw you a bone from time to time.

Yeah agreed, I became a "none regular" pretty much not long after Yits moved on. Their "new management / new staff" seem so up tight, together with the MDD as you mention, Rare I shall play there.

Starting finally after a looooooooooong time to get used to bonus free / cash only play, crap on a poor session but a breath of fresh air when your luck is in :D

Can players not group together and fire back at these casinos with threat of legal action for demanding information that they are not entitled to ?

Like a class action suit, based on regulations that do not permit personal information to be shared about willy nilly with companies that have no right to see unrelated transactions?

Ok so they might close accounts , but they might lose more in fines for breaching other regulators higher up...

The best thing is to step to a privacy authority. Seems to be a way cheaper option than starting a court case because the casino is not paying you because of not delivering some SOW documents.

I deposited £10 on Monday, got triggered by the SOW request instantly. Not a problem I thought I've been a member for years and part of Loyalty team. Can still not play.

So it's not just a few questions? They are asking for documents too?

It's a perfect week to implement since everyone that wanted in on the promotion had to deposit.
Nice celebration...

They're retaining the right to ask for documentation at any time in the future.
So maybe the first time you deposit it'll just be a questionnaire. Or it maybe a questionnaire and documentary evidence to support your answers.

The way they're working now, they can hold any deposit to ransom, and demand whatever documents they want.
Be it your next deposit, or in 10 deposit's time

it shant be a questionnaire it shall be the normal standard of SOW , unless your willing to provide this they shall hold on to your money period & i cannot believe that some players think this is ok ??? wtf no it is not, the only reason ever to hold to a players money is fraud related , if players have sent in id docs & have been members for years then surely common sense should be used.

With other words it should be a warning out for everyone who deposits at Guts, and are in the uk, so they know clearly what can happen. Maybe a new thread should be started.

It won't just be Guts though. It'll be all the MT Secure Trade sites.

And don't forget that these regulations that the UKGC is implementing, aren't their own rules. They're EU regulations. So don't be surprised if the rest of the world starts getting the same, through the MGA

Maybe that will happen, but even more important then to find out what they really are allowed to do. I won't have any problem to stop playing because that is what I will do if that happens.
I even get angry when I can't get an answer to a simple question at livechat without giving them all information about my account. I always leave and then ask the rep here instead.
Works every time.

I forgot I mentioned that they asked for documents indeed, which I had provided before. In any case at first I provided them with a bank statement showing them the salary coming in (blacked out other non essential stuff ofcourse) , it for some reason got rejected, and then I sent them my payslip which got accepted after a day. Still can not play, according to support they need more time to look into it deeply..

Their SOW request have forms for you to upload documents that says "copies of media coverage" and "certificate of winnings" which I only assume is for when you are not paid by an employer and need to document your situation differently.. but it's very ridiculous...

I wanted to play in the Viking races today, but can forget that..

The farce continues. What is a "certificate of winnings"? I of all people should know given my past fruitie exploits before MGS yanked the games. How big a win should be "certified"? If casinos are going to ask for this "certificate of winnings" then they had better expect a flood of demands from players to issue them on a "just in case" basis. If a £10 deposit is going to trigger a SoW with documents, then even modest withdrawals would need a "certificate of winnings" in case £10 deposited into a different casino from it triggers the SoW request with proof of where the tenner came from.

You UK MT casino players are the most pitiful bunch of money-launderers I have ever heard of. If you can't even get a tenner rinsed and repeated, you are out of the clubhouse. Obviously, the lady next door gave you $10 for minding her cat this week, and there is good reason to suspect you did not report it to the tax people. Wait, you won't have to do that until next spring. Maybe they can suspect you of potential money laundering for that ten you may or may not report as earnings.

I do not know what percentage of people launder money from proceeds of crime. But I'm betting it is not every customer.

Even though the rules may not apply to me, won't help me much if a casino decides to hold my money hostage. In the past I've had a casino tell me that they apply the UK rules to all customers, as it would be too difficult to have different rules for more than one jurisdiction.

Less than 1/2 the people polled here would find it simple via pay or pension stubs to provide SOW. Even for a player with this, it is presenting problems.

I've had to provide proof of income recently for a non-casino matter. I have a tenant. It's a room, there is no lease. He pays me in cash. Over the past decade, only two tenants have not paid me by cash. Current tenant doesn't want a receipt monthly for his cash, so I stopped writing them.

Every tenant I've ever had has claimed the rent credit, and after expenses, I make so little there's no tax to avoid, and I do declare the income. Many I've just given a receipt for the year to at tax time.

Common sense prevailed in my situation. There is no proof that I receive this money monthly, other than I am telling you about it so you can take it off any assistance I may qualify for. You have past proof from previous tenants but not all of them. I've brought in receipt books WHICH I WROTE as proof in the past. I'm not sure what it might take to make an online casino happy should they want it.

Unless you come visit, how do you know I'm getting $XXX per month for rent, and not for selling Kinder Eggs to US residents? I was going to say prostitution, but that's not a crime in my country anymore. Paying a prostitue is a crime though BTW.

How do you show that the family you are paid to babysit for are just that, and not a drug consortium giving you money to launder every month?

Make me think of the McCarthy era and suspected communism.

@Jono777 Yes I agree it's bs on top of bs with some extra bs thrown in for good measure. I suppose all you can really do is vote with your wallet :-(

I did say a few months ago that once the bonus T&C's racket was finally busted that I thought SOW was going to be the next chapter in casino Vs player and so it has begun.

@vinylweatherman I suspect they don't even know the answer to the question of "what is a certificate of winnings?"

As a test I went onto live chat to ask:-

===========

08:42
If I won £1000 - would you be able to produce a certificate of winnings for me?

08:46
That can be possible yes. We will have to escalate it to the game provider and they can give it to us.

08:47
OK. And what exactly would you provide....a document which says Mr X won £1000?

08:49
Some of the game provides can provide you with a video of the winning, I thought it was that you meant.
But we don't provide the customers with any other documents. You will be able to see your winnings on your bank statement and your account game transactions and payment transactions.
Is it anything special you need it for?

======

Make of that what you will.
