Hey everyone -

I have just been playing the new 'Reel of Fortune' over at Davinci's Gold (that is the Rival I play at, but it is at all of them)

It is a lot of fun so far!

I really like the 'Plunko' game which basically mimicks the Plinko game from the popular Price is Right daytime game show. That is a bit of fun. When your Plunko chip gets stuck in the middle you even get to push it in one of 2 directions :) Pretty fun.

The second game is a 'what is behind the curtain' game. As long as you don't pick the donkey - you get to keep playing and winning cash. That was fun too as I got to pick a few times before finally getting the Ass!

Anyway - it seems to me that the game is medium variance. There are a bit of ups and downs, but they have come rather quickly for me. Example - I was down about $100 with auto play in about 10 minutes (at $2 / spin) and then I was up about 5 minutes later by $145. In that time I got 3 bonus rounds as well (2 Plunko, 1 Behind the curtain). The lowest amount I won on Plunko is $105 on a $5 bet (decided to try $5 when I was on a run).

So - It is a fun new game, that's for sure... I like it a lot better than many of the new MGS games!

You can see some info on this slot at:

Has anyone else played this one today? I am having a shit-ton of fun with it (which really surprises me since I never win anything with Rival slots).

Here is my analysis after playing way too long :)

The Theme
I really like the theme of the slot - it is actually fully themed unlike a bunch of the MGS slots. There are unique symbols on every reel and the bonus games are very well thought out and themed. The sounds really aren't all that great win you hit a reel win.. more annoying than anything for me.

The Play
I really like getting the bonuses on this game and for some reason I always surge a little ahead each time I get them. Reel wins come a bit less frequent, though, as a result and I have noticed many times that the scatters cancel out wins that I otherwise would have had (not really atypical there, but since there are 2 types of scatters - it seems more frequent).

Overall Summary

I like the game a lot more than most at Rival. I really think this is their best invention yet. It DOES help, though, that I have won more than I have lost on this game thus far :) However, I think I would have liked the slot anyway.

The reels DO spin quite slow at times (I think this is server connection issues more than anything else) and that gets somewhat annoying.

Let me know what you think about this one - am I the only one that likes it a lot??

Maintenance

Hello everyone,

Just to let you know we're updating the servers right now, should be back up shortly. This should improve the play speed.

I'll let you know when we're back up!

Cheers,

Rob

I'm sure it's a well-made game, but it's time for me to get up on a big old soapbox and make a speech:

<Begin rant>
Blatantly ripping off Plinko by changing one letter is just the sort of thing that will keep online casinos in the dark ages.

It's the same as changing Let it Ride to Let them Ride to avoid infringing on patents and/or copyrights. The attitude of "who cares, what jurisdiction are you going to sue us in" won't cut it for me. Intentionally riding on the coattails of an established brand without permission is unethical even if the lawyers don't think there's any risk of penalty. The real penalty is the negative impression that it gives government bodies when they give consideration to banning or regulating online casinos.

Every casino that does things properly is harmed by this. It's the same as the cheap stunts that Golden Palace is famous for pulling.

I'm expressing my displeasure and I hope that anyone who feels the same way will chime in and show some support. Maybe the casinos will start to reject games that are obvious rip-offs if enough players are vocal about it.

<Rant over>

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your patience - the servers are now online. Tennis_balls is correct, Videopoker now offers up to 25 hands.

Cheers

Scooter7. I would have to disagree with you due to the fact that it is done all the time in many other industries. I don't think a whole lot of people consider it poor taste or unethical anymore.

That's just my opinion, though :)

I can understand where you are coming from, I am just not sure if majority thinks this way.

You're right about this sort of thing being commonplace in other businesses, but we're talking about an industry that is still in its infancy and has significant trust issues with its own customers.

Take a look at complaints sections of the forum and see how many threads deal with questionable business practices. It's time for the major players to step up and loudly distance themselves from these types of situations.

As a player, if I see company X avoiding paying license fees on a casino game, I wonder what other things they'll do to improve the bottom line. The players are the only other people that they can take advantage of for profit's sake.

Am I being too hard-line? Do others agree or disagree with me? Comments welcome. The worst thing we can get out of this thread is a good discussion:thumbsup:

I think they tweak the software too much, the game play seems different, for instance on Cleo and Reel the bonus game seems to pay a bit more, however the free spins seem to be scaled back, same with 5 Reel Circus, dont seem to get the same bonus games.

i couldn't resist

Old Attachment (Invalid)

a question for a Rival rep: is the result of this feature pre-determined or could one conceivably go on infinitely avoiding the dreaded donkey?

Hello,

The win amount for the game is not pre-determined - you could go on for quite a while and there are no limits on it. As such, I think that it could bring some pretty nice screenshots soon! ;)

Cheers,

Rob

Hmmm....I made some deposits last night and couldnt hit hardly any free spins, which is unusual, so maybe they have tweaked the games...?? If so, its disappointing as nothing has been mentioned by reps here. In the past, when game changes were made, CocoaRob has posted here - which makes me think that its unlikely that anything in that regard has been changed.

Lets hope my faith is well-placed

Almost 200 spins on that thing and all i got was broke, not even any decent wins inbetween :(

Nah, I am sure they changed a lot around, the speed of the slots themselves are now faster even so I wouldn't doubt they adjusted the paytables also. I had three or four bad sessions in a row now and that is enough to convince me things have been changed.

I discovered something interesting about the bonus rounds on Cleopatras Coins - the coin bonus is predetermined regardless of which vases you choose.

There was a small bug where the software logged me off just as I was about to hit the 'bonus' button to play the coin game - when I logged back in it had already paid me for the bonus round, without me actually choosing anything.

I guess it doesnt really matter, but its interesting nonetheless :)

I also see some new game updates occurred when I logged in today - also a few of the games had new files to be downloaded before I played.

In the past, this has meant some change to the game play/payout/free spins - maybe CocoaRob can shed some further light? I dont like updates that dont seem to change anything obvious.

I haven't played at Cocoa in ages (didn't like the slots) but after reading this thread decided it was time to try it again.

Didn't realize how many new slots there were! Anyway, I managed to cash out twice :D playing mostly Cleo and Reel of Fortune.

I did notice however, that when I increased my bet to over $1.50 the payout decreased substantially. The bonus rounds occurred less often and paid out less than when I bet half the amount.

Overall, I am pleased with the new slots and will definitely play there again. At $1.50/spin or less, the bonus rounds came fairly often and paid well.

Just played at Paradise8 - the i-slots downloaded all over again and I was back to square one....plus there was another update before I logged in.

It would be great for someone to come here and explain what the updates are, as it is making me a little suspicious - and concerned.

I loaded up Da Vinci's gold and decided to check it out in free mode and at anything over 3.75 a spin when the three fish would come up it wouldn't trigger the free spins so they may have been fixing that or I would hope they would be lol :).

I always cringe when I see the updates, you would never see this with M/G, when people go to McDonalds to have a BigMac it always tastes like a Big Mac regardless of location, I think Rival needs to find some consistency, pretty difficult to trust when constant changes are made to the game play.

Updates

Hello everyone,

As noted, Rival recently upgraded the gaming servers. This increased the speed of the games quite a bit, and you shouldn't encounter any more issues of 7-8 seconds per spin during peak times.

When the client downloads an update, this is a change to the animations only. Sometimes little random glitches get through and we have to update the software. Most players don't encounter those animation glitches but they have to be fixed nonetheless.

Payback on the games is not affected by your coin size/bet amount. Betting max coins and max lines guarantees you the best jackpot win amounts though (as in other casino games such as video poker).

We haven't made any changes to the game paytables/reels as of late - definitely not within the past few months. We inform the casinos whenever such a change is made so that an email can go out to players. I'll be happy to mention something here as well. Rival is proud to be one of the very few software providers that publishes individual expected game pay rates. Any changes to paytables will be reflected in this pay-rate, and you can check this for yourself in the game by clicking on the Help button (scroll down to see the expected rate).

Thanks everyone!

Rob

Thanks Rob - its nice to have some open feedback.

I have had a shocking run since the updates were made, but its probably just a co-incidence. The bonus rounds seem much less frequent, and pay very little.

Nothing personal, but Im going to stay away from Rival until I see some winning screenshots or hear someone else having some wins.
