Plans for 2017!

I just smoked my last cigaret. I have been smoking for about 40 years, and loved every one of them:D, but sadly I have to give it up, because I had a heart attack while I was in Germany for Xmas. Was in hospital 23. dec.( hospital was a sick place to stay in ) and let my self out again 24. dec. I had a stent put in to my arteria and now have to take a lot of pills:(
but if I want to live a litlle longer I must give it up for my daugther and husband.

I sure hope I can do it, its going to be a hard job, bit I will try my best:lolup:

Happy New Year to all of you::)

Some coincidence here Coco, my friend went for a check up on the 21st December (already had 3 stents from years ago) and was rushed to Dublin to get 3 more stents. Went home on the 24th, same as you, just to get some normality over Christmas. He smoked 40-50 a day for years, but quit when he had a heart attack some 10 years ago. I wish you all the best, hopefully you manage to stay off the fags.

:lolup: Your daughter is suffering from millennialism (made up word here). They think they deserve the world just by virtue of being born and not having to work for it like the rest of us. When she is all grown up she will appreciate it and realize her parents are saints:)

omg this! poor LH, In the good ole day's some of that would of been a spanking, lol. When I was that age(high school) I had to work and buy myself what I needed or wanted.

As Gordon Ramsey would say f!@# me a 70 inch tv!

Sorry to hear about your friend. How old?

So far so good with the fags.......I have to stop, so I programmed my brain to do it:thumbsup: Not so difficult as i thought, but it might come later, never tried to stop before so I dont know. Im 63 so I hope for at least 17 years more to go:D. I used to smoke 20/30 a day, maybe more when gambling;)

And I have family in Dublin, nice city.

Good luck with stopping smoking. They say that the first 3 days are the worst because the nicotine and chemicals take 3 days to get out of your system and during that time your physically craving for them to be topped up. After that it becomes much more a mental battle. If you need an extra boost maybe try hypnotherapy because it can really work wonders.

My second day, one more to go....everything is going fine, I think it has to do with how your thinking, there is only benifits with stopping the cigs. Im trying this cold tyrkie, other people can so I can too. Its just a bad habbit, and in 2 weeks that habbit should be gone.....I might stop gambling to;) will see how it goes.

But thanks for your advise:thumbsup:

Yes you can do it... i've done it many times but then make the mistake of taking that just 1 cig... and then the spell is broken no matter how long i've quit. Currently my last cig -31 dec 2014

WOW! So many great plans for 2017!

Some plans are obviously more attainable then others, but if you all put your mind, body and soul into it you will achieve your goals.

The only 1 goal I set this year was to survive my only child turning 16 next month. She has already picked out a car, wants us to build an apartment on the side of the house for her to move into, and would like us to give her 1,500 USD allowance every month ontop of us paying for all her living expenses. She would also like a 70 inch TV so she can play her games on STEAM and it would be like she right in the game. She informed us that she plans on living at home when she goes to college because she doesn't want to eat cafeteria food everyday.

Christmas was only 2 weeks ago and there is nothing else this kid could possibly need or want in my opinion but she has delivered a 2 page list for her birthday with the last line reading....MORE TO COME. The first thing out of my mouth was GET A DAMN JOB! But deep down inside, I see my hubby trying to think of way to convince me that she deserves the Range Rover she is asking for....

Things have changed a lot haven't they?

A quick clip around the ear always steered me in the right direction, and like Slotmaster in an earlier post I was taught the value of money by having to generate my own funds for luxuries (that I perceived as necessities)

Can't tell you how much I respect my parents for providing love, clothing, shelter and education at what I now know as a parent myself was a considerable cost.

I was reading the other day that a quite astonishing percentage of millennials these days are still living with their parents well into their twenties and, like Osulle's offspring, expect a lot of continuing support.

Earlier generations left home to make their own way in the world whilst still in their teens, heading off for uni or trade schools before setting out on their own life journeys.

Yes, I left when I was in my teens and it was Not a good decision as I discovered later in life. Works for some and not other's.

Alot are still living at home older and that is not always a bad thing and also yes times have "changed" and what people had when they were younger compared to the younger now is not the same either.
Cost of living is stupidly High as is rent and Utilities, it is way out of control. Younger cannot afford it on low wages that's for sure.

My oldest is 20 this March, she is still at home and expects not much at all from us. I think each case is different and I can see why a lot more of kids in their 20's are still at home with parent(s)
Options available today is not the same as it was 25 yrs ago, jobs are harder to find yet alone obtain especially for the fresh school leavers. A lot of it is casual and part time and this debate has been on going.. without
secure jobs, full time there is not enough money coming in to survive especially with the cost of rent now as well and the list goes on and on.

and like Slotmaster in an earlier post I was taught the value of money by having to generate my own funds for luxuries (that I perceived as necessities)

This is a very important lesson and must be taught at a young age and continue throughout the journey of teen years. It helps a child understand the cost of things, the value of money and how long it acquires to save x amount of money. My children know the amount we pay per week in rent, the cost of grocery bill etc and often they comment on how expensive things are and so forth. I think its vital kids are informed of the weekly costs
of most things so they are aware and learn about it as they grow.

Anyway........ Good Health and Happiness too All!

He is 54, still young. He wants to come to work tomorrow, which would be nice since I have been looking after the place on my own, but at the same time I don't want him to rush the recovery. But you know, in Ireland, there is no sick pay so effectively when somebody is out sick, they only get paid a few euro from the revenue, but no wages. It's a shame, it makes people go back to work sooner than they should.

Have you tried vaping? I know people that swear by it, seems to really help with quitting.

Oh, and one fun fact - our company makes the majority of stents out there, so chances are you have one of them ;)

Vaping is the bomb. Been doing it for about five years now, it transcends smoking on every level and the industry has come a long way in the last ten years or so. There's something out there for everyone and new things being released all the time, and as for the liquids themselves, that's a whole different story!

Very nice post Harry and I think all your points are valid and spot on!! ;);)
I really hope you get to see your son more.
As a father of 2 beautiful daughters I could not even grasp the feeling of having to not see them for whatever reasons.

When it comes to gambling,I am also drasticly going to cut my online gambling spendings.
For me the biggest issue is that most casino's do not recognise you as a loyal customer, no matter how much and how often you deposit.
Most loyalty systems really suck balls, pardon my French.
One could deposit and lose 1k and end up with €3.25 worth of loyalty points or 10 FS at minimum bet and tbh I am sick of that.

Also like you said, hundreds of deposits and only very little wins that DID matter and made me have a decent profit.
Especially the last 12 months I find the online slots tight as hell.

Biggest example, GoT 243 lines (€4300.00 in the minus) and an RTP of about 46%.
If that is what slot designers want to give to their customers I am out.

So my budget was also around €500.00 a month and will push that back to €100.00 or so.
If that doesn't bring anything I might be one of the quitters in 2017.

I rather go to my local b&m where I can play in a relaxed atmosphere, free food and drinks, and complementary money on the house (they come around from time to time and hand you 10-50 euro in free cash no matter if you are up or down).
I just love that.
I can go there and play 3-4 hours with a hundred bucks.

So yeah,100% with you on this one mate.

And last but not least, stop smoking is on my list too but this will be the hardest thing as I did quit before and was stupid enough to start again after 18 months of non smoking.:confused:

Also a change of job is on the horizon, I even have plans with a friend to start our own business so who knows how that will work out!

Agreed 100%.
I live here for 7 years now and the fact that most companies have very little or no sick pay is a disgrace.
You actually have to insure yourself over here to get some kind of illness income protection which costs a fortune on premiums.
One of the reasons I am trying to get my own business going because most employers in this country do not give a shit whether you can pay your mortgage and other bills once you are sick for some time.

Indeed people come to work and spread around their germs and virusses as they should be home in bed.

In that perspective this is a third world country.

Can't stop thinking of this thread, lol. I wonder of LH put the daughter over the knee yet:p

I will move in for a much smaller list!;). I would love to have $1500 month extra, speaking of which my folks keep joking I should be in my own business for helping fix electronics and hooking them up as I have to keep helping them with that stuff.

Totally agree with the vaping. It helped me quit smoking 3 years ago. Downside of that is I can't quit the vaping as I am addicted to nicotine. Still it worked for me better than the gum, patch or any other method.

I was under the impression that you can get sick pay in Ireland; not from the company but from the government. It's called the Illness Benefit and is based on your social contributions. I think you don't get paid for the first few days but you do get paid after that but you have to submit a weekly sick certificate. It's not perfect but it's better than many companies in the US.

When I lived in the US my job had a very generous benefit package (for Florida at least). You got 12 sick days per year and depending on years of employment the max of 24 vacation days a year. So if you got sick for an extended period of time and used up all your days you were SOL and worse yet you could potentially lose your job because you would be on Leave Without Pay and not guaranteed your position after two years. So Ireland isn't perfect but there are worse countries out there.

I'm feeling somewhat better today, managed a bath and clean night clothes and a decent meal, and currently 15 hours in a row awake, although I did lay down and watch TV for a bit.

So tomorrow's big plans are to go out and get some scans for an ID verification. It's a casino I've played at for a long time, but I guess the size of the withdrawal, or a combination of withdrawals, triggered it. Or maybe it's a stalling technique, but I've stalled way longer than they have!

2017 will happen one day at a time same as every other year. Be careful out there (Hill Street Blues).

Jetset-I will always support my daughter, but she will not have a lavish life off my support. I worked since I was 16 and stayed with that company for 21 years and retired. My husband and I decided when were very young to save our money instead of going out every weekend and blowing it in a bar to have a good life in our later years. Even though we have a small seasonal business, my daughter does work with us and does earn her own money. She saves every penny she makes, the problem is she has no problem spending her parents money lol. She will not get a car for her 16th birthday. But she will get one when she graduates high school in 2 years. She is a good student, but I can assure you it wont be a Range Rover! She will get a weekly allowance of about 50 dollars and that is about it. If she wants more than that, she will get a job like her father and I did when we were in college.

Slotmaster-I don't put her over my knee because she is a good 8 inches taller than me lol but I have no problem smacking her in the mouth when she needs it. I spoil my daughter, I admit that. But she does work and earn her own money, So when she wants to spend it on something I don't say no, because it is her money that she earned. As for you starting your own business, DO IT!! If you are handy with that stuff, put it to use to make some extra money. Your parents see your talent, let everyone else see it too! You never know, it just might work out for ya!

All the best,
LH

When I was young, my parents decided we we not old enough to drive at 16, and we were not permitted to go get our licences. 17 was old enough, and that went for both me and my brother who was a year younger. Know I think I could have got it without parental permission, but hey, we just did not do that. And my parents were right, I was much more mature at 17. It was also a condition that I take Driver's Ed, and I had to pay for it and my licence. And the car insurance premium for the young driver.

But I honestly think you get a veto vote when it comes to home renos. But if you work out a good plan, it will add value to your home and she and her buddies do most of the grunt work.

But 70 inch TV, sure you can have one, just pay for it and the extra cable box.

You don't sound like any pushover, but they gotta try.

Happy 2017 Lori.

You are right Jas, she does try like 10 times a day lol. There will be no 70 inch tv! We already have an apartment on the side of our house, we had it built for my parents when we bought this house. But it is where my mother lives, and she doesn't want to kick my mother out so she wants us to build another one lol. She thinks because I don't charge my mother rent or make her pay for utilities I should do the same thing for her. So I said, if I am still alive when your 75 I will do the same thing for you! lol She didn't get the joke!

I wish you the best in 2017 and hopefully this year we can meet up sometime!

You must be crazy! Tell her when you are 75 she needs to do that for you!

I'd love to meet up. If I have any resolutions for this year, it's to meet some people I've known for years. I'm nearing the end of of the FUN FUN FUN part of my money, but it's not all gone yet. I'm on some pricewatch lists for New York flights.

It's also my plan to visit a country I haven't yet visited. That stuff is way cool.

I'm still laughing about you giving your daughter a rent free apartment nearly sixty years from now. But Mom, you promised!!! Complete with the eyeroll and the heavy sigh.

Good morning lovely people.

Item 1 + 2 on my list are completed
- worked 18 hrs last week
- spent only $175 on slots so far this month instead of the usual 2-3K

Item 3 - taking off now to Malaysia on my reconnaissance mission to find a nice place with pool, basketball yard and the likes so my son will be able to have fun should he stay with me for weekends or holidays.

Item 4 to follow soon :D

Wishing you all great day!

Well that is true but the money is a joke, basicly you receive the same amount as someone in social benefits.
And believe me, you cannot live from that if you have kids and a mortgage to pay.

It does feel great being able to tick things off. I am sticking to my plans as well - paid off my second of three credit cards yesterday (so far have more than halved my debt in the last two months) and on course for clearing my last card in the next 4 or 5 months.

Also sticking to my own casino deposit/withdrawal rules (I'm now probably the casinos worst client for not profiting from!) as last night a cheeky little £20 deposit at V&J with a £50 withdrawal. It's these small deposits and then withdrawals with small profit margins which really help with my cashflow. Thought I'd be tempted with more reversals, but still holding strong on that front. Rest assured, when funds allow in next few months I am sure to enjoy a few healthier sessions on the slots, but just prioritising a few other things at the moment.

.

I used to be a bugger for the odd little withdrawal reversal (where places had pp's) Nowt major but the odd £20 - £50 ish has gone floating back their way over the years.

Proud to say I've not reversed a penny now ("That's cos you don't withdraw anything Jon LMAO!") in 2 years +

The way I went about this is I convinced myself a bunch of blokes are sat round in the office and one shouts to another "Hey, Jon the twat has just reversed n blew £50 the prick" - "Looks like I meet my target for by bonus after all" - "What a knob"

Probs nearer the truth than I realise but has the desired effect to make me wait for every penny I originally cashed out :p ;)

I aim to travel more in Europe this year (travel and work)
Put aside enough money each month for a deposit on a house in a year or two.
Most importantly I hope to make it to vegas....
