I was reading the PirateofC21 archived post and became interested in it.

I looked it up on the internet and found the original MSNBC news story about it.
Also, a lot of old forum posts.

It would have been really interesting to hear those taped conversations with the casino operator.
They were at one stage uploaded to the net [and if I am not mistaken Casinomeister] but the pages with the recordings have now been removed.
If anyone knows where I can get my hands on the recordings it would be appreciated. :)

There is only one real question that remains unanswered for me.

RTG denied that the game was malfunctioning.
And I naturally assume that it was a game with a house edge.
Then how can it be that PirateofC21 won 1+ million off such a low variance game? Even at 10k bets it should be near impossible.

EDIT: You can see the original NBC report here at the bottom of the page;

I understood the game was very low house edge (almost zero he) and higher variance than blackjack. So being 100 betting units up wouldn't be that difficult to achieve.

Wizard says this game at the time had a HE of 0.19% which is nothing too special considering table games.

To say that he got lucky doesn't make any sense either becasue he was winning on this game before they raised his table limits.

Checking Bodog they have since removed Caribbean 21.

I guess this is something we will never know for sure - either the player got very lucky or he found an exploitable loophole within the game. But had the game been properly progammed in the first place, it couldn't have been exploitable, so the liability for losses lies with the software provider in either case.
