I was reading a post from VWM (in the purple lounge deposit method thread) about verification procedures that request photo ID.
Why do some online Casinos want photo ID when they will never know what you look like or ever see your face?
I don't get it

As for me I think they have no need to see your face - they want to see information from your ID (First-Last name, personal #, etc).

They are covering their backsides for money laundering regulations. Occasionally it also catches the less competent fraudsters.

No worries Rusty, yours will be approved :D

had to send my dr lic and everything else gas bill, tele bill anything else under the sun.... was told " why do you look so sad on your dr. lic." told them i had a bad day that day at your casino." i was told that it is to make sure that you are the person you are claiming to be and not some teenager using the parents credit cards.

How would they know? If said teenager had access to their parents credit cards, they would certainly have access to their drivers license/photo ID.

They don't do it to players outside of Manchester. It's just so they can all have a good laugh in the office :p

They keep the photo on file, possibly on an industry database.
If the same "identity" signs up elsewhere, but the photo looks like a different person, this indicates that one of the accounts is false (they cannot tell which one at this stage.
Identity thieves often use their own photo, but with stolen ID details, when making up or requesting supporting documents in order to use the stolen ID fraudulently. This method has been shown on a number of TV documentaries as to how someone can get in under a false passport. They have a good chance if they can pass the visual check of passport photo against their looks (unless the original person has reported their passport stolen, or their ID misused).
Theft of personal details is relatively easy, but theft of the person's likeness to be used with new documents is far far harder.

In short, there IS something to be gained by asking for photo ID in the fight against fraud, even though the casino will never see you in person.

Ive just been asked for photo id which normally isnt a problem but the only id i have is that off my passport which has since expired as off 2 months ago. Its the only picture id i have, do you guys reckon they will still accept it?

They might, but you need supporting evidence not more than three months old.
You could find getting it renewed is what they ask for, but a bus/train photo travelcard would be cheaper.
Applying for a photo driving licence would be an alternative, slightly cheaper than a passport.

This could become more inconvenient if you have no other photo ID, and asked again for it when the passport is far more out of date.

yeah thats what i thought they might say tho they havent come back to met yet so im hoping they wont lol grrr lot of hassle just to get a photo id, my driving licence is paper and i havent needed age id for a longggg time lolol :p
Cheers tho VWM :D
