Hi

I’ve been temporarily excluded from receiving any bonuses and promotions, because of safer gambling, I have daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits in place on my account and I also have game time reminders, I haven’t even hit my any of my deposit limits that I have in place.

Also the online casino in question, have supposedly excluded me from all bonuses and promotions because of safer gambling, yet they are more than happy for me to keep making deposits. So they’re not really that worried.

How are they allowed to do this, when I’m following they’re advice by having safer gambling tools in place on my account and I have also taken a self awareness assessment and the results concluded that I have no problem with my gambling. it just seems to me, online casinos just do what they want, also what is the point of having safer gambling tools in place.

Have you been converting the bonus offers into withdrawals?

If so, you are a Bonus Abuser!

Let me explain how it works - Should you take advantage of the bonus offers that they send to encourage you to deposit and turn them into a cashout, it didn't go their way and you may find yourself bonus-excluded and branded an abuser of casino promotions. On the other hand, should you consistently lose said deposits encouraged via said casino promotions, they like you, and it went to plan so you will be rewarded more.

In other words, if they send a bonus offer to encourage you to make a deposit, and you are so rude as to take advantage of that, and even more rude to actually convert the said marketed promotion into a withdrawal, then you are abusing their generosity.

Not all casinos are this retarded, just 99% of them. It's called hypocrisy selective/targeted marketing, and a completely responsible way to encourage players to spend more money and time at their responsible and ethical establishment.

Picking out the relevant parts of the announcement:
The new rules, which come into effect on 12 September 2022, are stronger and more prescriptive, requiring operators to:

  • monitor a specific range of indicators, as a minimum, to identify gambling harm
  • prevent marketing and the take-up of new bonuses for at risk customers

So something like 8-10% of people will receive some form of responsible gambling notifications (emails, on-site alerts, up to and including phone calls) and then those deemed at-risk by the algorithms will require more management - including removal of all marketing avenues including promotions and bonuses.

It's annoying in the sense that bonuses - when used responsibly - can be a way to extend playtime or mitigate a percentage of losses. However the UKGC consider the marketing angle the bigger risk - which perhaps is fair.

So precise and unfortunately so true.

Thank you for all your correspondence and feedback, firstly I don’t regard myself as a bonus abuser, yes I do play the bonuses, but then I do deposit as well.

I did send another email to the complaint’s team yesterday, asking why my account has been restricted for safer gambling reasons, when I have had safer gambling tools in place on my account and have done for quite some now and they could not give me an answer. I then sent another email outlining again that I have had safer gambling tools in place on my account for quite some time and that I haven’t even deposited up to my limit, so how can my account be restricted when I am clearly showing that I have no problem with my gambling .

Also just to be clear the safer gambling tools I have in place are:

Daily deposit limit
Weekly deposit limit
Monthly deposit limit

I have also taken the self awareness assessment and the results come come back as no problem with your gambling.

Regards

Gary

The list of indicators from the article include both customer spend (amount / patterns) and use of gambling management tools - as well as time-based and customer behaviour (comments to CS etc). So even if you are using the tools, they may still consider you at-risk enough to apply these stricter terms.

Hi, I understand that, but I would hardly call myself a risk, my deposit limits are not even that high:
Daily deposit limit is £500
Weekly deposit limit is £500
Monthly deposit limit is £1000

I very rarely hit my deposit limits and this month is no different to any other, I’ve deposited £645 for the month.

In one breath they’re saying that they are looking out for the safety of their customers and that’s why I have been restricted so that I cannot receive any promotions or bonuses. But in the next breath they’re saying to me that they are more than happy for me to keep depositing and playing on their site.

To me that’s a total contradiction in terms.

It's frustrating for sure - because if you do play on then you're being offered games at worse (overall) RTP than if you had the promotions, which seems like a middle finger approach. There is the element of voting with your wallet of course, but another site could treat you just as harshly given KYC and RG checks are increasing significantly in recent months and years.

While you may not consider yourself a risk, on the overall curve that amount of spend is at the higher end. When the regulators were mulling mandatory deposit limits, the numbers they were talking about were more like £100 to £200 a month... so when operators are looking for their 8% of players to pigeon-hole into the responsible gambling matrix, accounts such as yours are going to stick out I'm afraid - even if you honestly don't consider yourself at risk.

Hi, Jasonuk, thank you, I didn’t realise that, so I’ve reduced my deposit limits to:
Daily £100
Weekly £200
Monthly £800
But I’m still restricted. I feel like I’ve been a naughty little boy and this is my punishment 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
