notarised docs in Czech Republic

Hi, question for any of you out there from the Czech Republic:

I have an issue where a player has been asked to provide notarised documents. The player (from Czech Republic) claims:

Unfortunatelly, the legal code of my country [Czech Republic] prohibits notaries and other public figures from notarizing (certifying) any forms of personal ID.
The relevant piece of legislation is: ct 21/2006 Sb. of the Czech legal code.

Is this even remotely true? Seems pretty far-fetched to me. This can't be the first person from the Czech Republic to have been asked for notarised docs.

(I'll contact some people to get the official word on this but I thought it would be good to hear from the readership too.)

If this is indeed the case, perhaps a letter from a notary stating that ID cannot be notarized?

Or a statment to the effect that ID has been shown and the photographic image appears to be that of the person presenting it?

Perhaps the casino will accept a photograph of the person holding their ID?

Don't see why they can't get a copy notarized as long as it matches the original.

a) if the original document from which the duplicate is to be made is a
document which uniqueness cannot be replaced by any verified copy, such
as a personal identification card, military identification card, passport or
other identification card, a bill, a check or any other bond, savings book,
geometrical plan, drawings and technical sketches,

Thanks for the link. I would think the above section that says the notary shall refuse if it is a passport or other identification does apply, and the casino should accept another means.

In this day and age of Skype and video conferencing, maybe something could be worked along those lines?

It's also verified on the following page that explains everything that Czech notaries do and don't do, and verifying ID is not going to be possible.

If the casino has ever had even one client from Czech wanting to cash out then you'd think they'd already know about this problem and have alternatives available...

Just following up from Jinn's post (text taken from Jinn's linked page):

Certification of documents

- ... Passports: authentic copies of IDs/passports can’t be made, so if you are asked to provide a certified copy of your passport somewhere, make a plain copy and mention that according to the valid Czech laws, no other way is possible.

Go figure! Learn something every day I guess.

Since it's impossible for the player to produce a notarized copy, any luck with getting the casino to accept an alternative?

Much later: of course I forgot to update this. As I recall that case the casino decided to move forward based on the player having provided a few select bits of ID. In other words they accepted the Czech "no verification" situation and worked around it to their satisfaction.
