Movies

I liked most of the Stephen King movies, I'm very eclectic in my likes.

Do you read his books? If yes, do you think the movies live up to the books or are the movies good enough as presented?

The only good translation I've seen is Christine. Some of the other movies like The Stand or IT lose a lot because the viewer doesn't get the "inside the mind" effect that his books do.

Yes I've read all his books. What you say is very true, the movies would have to be 5 hours long LOL, to get the effects of his books. Stand by Me wasn't too bad, Rose Red, or The Perfect Storm. Pet Semetary was horrible,IMO! Sorry, I just woke up so I'm not at my best right now.

Stephen King has such intriguing detail in his books, movies should be done in two parters to give justice to them. When you have to cut out so much detail, it kills the effects of the storyline and it leaves the reader turner moviegoer sadly disappointed. It makes you feel like you are waiting for the punchline to the joke that will never come about...

I don't think ANY movie taken from a book actually lives up to the book, with the exception of the extended versions of LOTR. You only have so much time and a book has so much MORE detail. I always find I am sorely disappointed when I read the book FIRST then see the movie because I go in with an already pre-conceived concept of how the movie should play out, only too see how much detail has been left out.

When I have more time I'll add more too this, I have to go get ready for work...

I was looking forward to seeing it. Now I'm feeling miserable. Just looked at the rating in rotten tomatoes and it's still high so I'm feeling less miserable now. Fingers crossed it's not as diabolical as you portray it. It can't be that bad can it?

When "Blade Runner" came out, on the short list of Ridley Scott's masterpiece list, I recall it was both commercial and critical flop. In fact, Roger Ebert reviewed it on "At the Movies" or whatever the name was when he was on it with Gene Siskel - he liked the visuals, but he gave the film a so-so rating.

Now I don't know about you, but I have seen almost every single film Scott has done, and he's a genius, IMO.

If he makes a film, I see it. Period. And if I like it, I like it.

so, yeah, I'm seeing Prometheus. :D

Feel much better now. So i'm thinking it might be along the lines of 2001 a space odyssey which had me disorientated towards the end (the time scene), but was still a great story and danny boyles SunShine that was a disapointment mixed with Solaris (1999) that was brilliantly done. Then I wont mind so much. Maybe i'm way off the mark with that thought but it'll make me feel better until I actually go and see this movie.

It may well work for you - i love SunShine so we clearly have different tastes. I would say that it's not the same sort of plot problems as 2001 though, it's not that it's confusing as in the complex, theological or defys the physical due to the powers involved, it's confusing as in basic time lines and motivations simply don't add up - there's actually a fairly comprehensive list on the Prometheus message board.

I found out afterwards that one of the Lost writers was involved, which explains a hell of a lot for me.

I watched a few newish / oldish movies in the last week or so...

Avatar - Had to watch this again on BluRay - Great Movie / Great Graphics..

John Carter - I liked the Plot and the Movie (I actually DIGG Fantasy Movies)

Another Earth - Good Storyline

Wrath of the Titans - Not Bad - Great CGI

Iron Sky - A bit of a flop in my personal opinion.

Journey 2 - The Mysterious Island - POOR, really bad acting.

I actually watch a truck load of movies every month... There are FEW that actually are good... Lots of them are a waste of money.

I have to agree with your last sentence Nate, Another Earth, what did you think of this, I thought it was a great movie.
Avatar is one of my favorites:) I've watched it loads of times with the kids (we have the dvd)

Journey 2 (what were they thinking:confused:) this movie won't get a second look.

John Carter actually surprised me, it was a really good watch, different with alot of imagination.

Journey 2 - This is what happens when the Rock and Vanessa Hudgens are your MAIN Cast - Overall it was absolutely pathectic - More for 4-5 year olds... Disney..

Another Earth was a good movie - I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see this 'Earth 2'. I suppose if they did that then they would need a HUGE budget for the CGI and the like. Still a relatively good storyline - Left me wondering WHAT her clone was doing back on Earth... Did he send her back so she couldn't ruin it? Or was it actually because she also won the competition on Earth 2?

I liked John Carter and the Princess - Pity she is slutty in every other movie (Angels Crest....) :p

Immortality was right. I have seen some pretty brutal movies but the Wind that Shakes the Barley was pretty raw and gritty. Cillian Murphy was an awesome standout. Couple that with the reality of the times and it was a good watch.

Highly recommend Love in the time Cholera. Great period drama set on the Caribbean Coast. A must for Javier Bardem fans.

I totally agree with Nate, I too watch lots and lots of movie each month as I'm not a tv fan. But the movies always seem to leave me waiting for something more to happen or leave me falling asleep midway through the movie.

Went to the movie store with my daughter the other day and only purchased 1 movie :( Nothing tickled my fancy, how sad LOL thousands of titles and I pick "Mommy Dearest" out of the bargain bin.

I have fell asleep a quarter way through some movies:p

Watched 'Life as we know it' the other night for the 3rd time, it's a good story line, really a shocker, love story but with a twist, great watch for guys and girls, it's not all lovey dovey, but it has some sad moments and funny moments, I rate this 9 out of 10.

With Much thanks to Imortality and harrys99 I have created a 'Movie Lovers' group for everyone.
