Microgaming "Expert" Mode. Wrong Strategy?

Hi guys,

I'm worried about something Vesuvio put in another post here. I play(ed) a lot of Microgaming Deuces Wild VP in multihand (99.37% odds played to correct strategy but on the multihand version only). Its a relatvely new variation to me so i've been learning the strategy but trusting MG's "Expert" mode to do the strategy for me while i do. I've lost hand over fist so had assumed I'm on a bad streak.

I play Double Bonus VP (99.94%) on Crypto's a lot and do well on that and i played some DW on it last week. Did ok. Cashed out about 300% up. Probably good luck (due some!).

But I must admit, every now and then, some of the decisions i'd seen MG "Expert" Mode make made me raise my eyebrows. Not enough to ever write them down perhaps but as i said I'm new to the strategy. But Vesuvio suggests that its blatantly wrong. I think i need to run some tests today but does anyone else have any thoughts on this or done anything similar (tests) on the MG strategies in the meantime?

I'd be (more than) friggin' annoyed if i found it was misleading me all this time but until there's proof then you have to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Cheers

It might help if you showed some of the plays suggested by MG - especially the ones that feel intuitively incorrect.

Isn't this a case of caveat emptor? Why would a casino willingly give you a tool that could best its games? I'm not suggesting that it's rigged or purposely incorrect, but you have to wonder....

Some of the more advanced tactics I have read about from other sources seem pretty esoteric. I would have thought that VP strategy would be fairly straightforward, but I've read about some pretty interesting tactics, including something called "straight interference" (?).

I've played quite a bit of Deuces Wild Power Poker and I've never noticed anything askew.

Well, you need to write them down so we know what you're talking about :D

That would certainly help CM. I'll do some undercover work ;)

Ok well i just used VP Calculator and ran through 500 hands of 4-hand DW VP on MG and stopped at all the points where holds weren't obvious to check. And its official...I'm talking bollocks. Everything seems cool so er, sorry fpor the mini panic-attack

There was one very "close call" when dealt 2D, 2S, 6H, 7H and 8D. MG said hold the 2's rather than go for the SF. True on their multihand play but not on single-hand due to the diff in 4 deuces and a DRF.

I frequently check any hands that I don't agree with against Bob Dancer's Winpoker and it always checks out. Gotta make sure that you do change the paytables though between the single and multiline versions, that 250 coin difference for 4 deuces does have an affect on the strategy.

yes its a sensible idea JPM. Problem with most MG casinos is they run full-screen which is a pain in the arse. Thats why i tend to play 32Red the most cos it'll run windowed alongside the VP Calc or similar program.

Most Viper casinos will run in window mode.

Hmm weird - i tried 4 while reviewing recently and that was the only one that did...Ladbrokes, Music Hall and er..hmm...Gaming Club (i think) being the other 3 that didn't. Ah well. I trust your better judgement GM :)

I have about 20 Viper casinos on my computer. All of them with the exception of Jackpot City can be run in window mode.

20!? :eek:uch! As a matter of interest, do you have a "favourite" among those 20 GM or are they all pretty much the same book in a different cover?

I think with MG Viper you can always choose between fullscreen or window mode. At least I always like to run window mode because I hate the casino taking up the whole screen. I don't recall a time when I was forced to run the software in fullscreen and I've played at a lot of MG casinos.

I prefer window too and its sometimes an "option" on the menu but the ones i have here aside from 32Red don'rt seem to have the option. No biggie tho.
