MG Tourney names

I'm happily losing a tourney and it's on autoplay so I'm reading the other players screen names and ended up behind this AHole.



This really pisses me off, I mean people can think whatever they want and call themselves whatever little nickname they choose in private, but IMO Microgaming should have some rules about what kind of public aliases are off limits. Or at least make them not anonymous, I'd like to have a chat with a few people about politeness and decent public behaviour.

I don't know, I'm really sick today so maybe it's bothering me more than it should, but I'm actually going to send this screenshot to the casino and complain about it. Am I flying off the handle?

Definitely lodge a complaint about it, most likely there's a list of censored words for user names, but that isn't on the list because it's not a swear word in and of itself.

I have no idea what goes through the minds of the imbeciles who think thoughts like that, assuming they even think at all

No, you are not flying off the handle!! Some of he tourney names are a total disgrace and I often wonder how they are allowed to have such handles. Pleae let us know if the casino responds.

Definitely not! It's amazing how many people just ignore that type of thing, but I'd be sending them a screenshot too, and then enjoying the thought of the loser soon getting banned (hopefully) or at least reprimanded!

Just because I lost a whole bunch of money this weekend and I'm feeling contrary, let them stand.

I played NTN trivia for more than a decade as Jazzy, and they stopped allowing any names with azz in them.

My friend Fawque still had his handle.

Allan Hole should still be allowed to play.

Alan Hole. Well Jazzy - I think sexual references and swearing are pretty normal in the grownup world - especially in the world of gambling. I myself have called Hitman or Thor or Tut several choice names over the years.

Anyhow...so I shot off a mail to the casino and went to sleep for awhile and woke up to this response, which I thought was pretty nice - they thanked me THREE times. lol....I don't know if they'll do anything about it or if they'll let it stand.

Thank you for sending in this email.

I completely agree with you in regards to the players alias sometimes being obscene. There is no way for us to pick up when a player has entered a racial and or rude alias, unless of course someone like yourself points this out.

I have escalated this players alias to Casino Management to see what can be done in this regard.

Also, keep in mind that all the players in the Casino are from around the world, and some players are not going to be a girl/boy next door sort of person. (lol - I'm a member of Casinomeister - I KNOW that! ) Cannot take every persons outlook to heart. But I definitely can understand that a alias like that is not nice on the eyes.

It was a decent email response, but I'm not sure if they're taking it seriously. I mean it's not the same as 'A Hole' or something like that, it's considered 'hate speech' in many countries and is often illegal.

I think it's clear the person's name fits the definition of illegal hate speech in the UK so I don't think it's appropriate that the casino said they 'Cannot take every persons outlook to heart'.

So that's pretty much the opposite of the UK...

I am sure Microgaming have the last word on this, as tournaments are played across many casinos. Microgaming are based on the Isle Of Man, so are more likely to take the UK and EU view on "hate speech", and ban this participant.

I doubt the casino will let me know whether they've done anything or not - and nor should they really. The only way I'd know is if I go trawling through every tournament looking for that screen name in the future (which won't happen) and even if I never see them again it won't mean that the casino or MG had anything to do with it.

It was just a fluke that I saw it this time because I ended up right behind them. That's how I first noticed De Beuker! Always at least 5 places ahead of me, the stinker.

I think they were, they did mention that they'd forward my concern on to casino management. Where it goes from there, who knows? I wrote back and thanked them for getting back to me and sent a link to this thread, in case they wanted to get the view of some more of the general gambling population. In case I'm just a prudish crackpot with no sense of humor or some wacko who's trampling on everyone elses right to free speech.

Funny, I just reread my mail to them and I thanked THEM three times too! lol. So now we're even I guess.
