Merry Christmas and just a thought

Hello everyone,

I hate that Christmas has become so commercial: Buy bigger better presents, get a huge Christmas tree with lots of expensive unnecessary decorations, have an enormous Roast Chicken/Turkey. But I haven't seen one TV advertisement that speaks for the homeless people, the people that are not well and can't afford to have a Merry Christmas, the less fortunate. Not one for the Salvation Army or the Red Shield. So I noticed a thread hasn't been created yet and with the help of Wikihow I have decided to start a thread that's about all the ways we can remember the needy at Christmas just six easy simple things we can do to remember those that aren't able to experience the real celebration of Christmas as they should be...

1. Think of how to do more that just think about the unfortunate and especially those who are in need by no fault of their own.

2. Read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Pay special attention to Tiny Tim.

3. Don't forget those that need help and that you have the means to give assistance, food or other goods.

3. When you see a needy person, try to think of how difficult life is for them without adequate food, shelter and clothing.

4. Thank God for your life and all of the things you have.

5. Share your goods and give if you have enough.

6. Consider a system where people make a shoe box present which goes to poor children in politically affected areas of eastern Europe, in war-ridden Africa and Asia to countries such as Vietnam, India and many other countries. One such system is called Operation Christmas Child.

Feel free to add any others that you might think of :)

Also something that I try to do whenever I visit the supermarket is to add a Gift that will go to the homeless under the supermarket's Christmas tree. Most of the big supermarkets have them these big Christmas Trees.

I'm also going to attach a link that links directly to Casinomeister's Donate Now section as CM puts it: Instead of throwing your winnings back into some online casino, donate at least a part of your winnings. Every little bit counts: https://www.casinomeister.com/donate/.

Merry Christmas,
Mark.

I just gave the Salvation Army kettle some cash at the supermarket not 20 minutes ago.

The santa guy said to me "I haven't seen you in while" and I said "oh were you here last year?" and he said "no, up at the soup kitchen".
I guess he confused me with someone else, maybe I should shave next time before running out to the store (lol)

I'm home alone with the animals. The bf is working Xmas Eve and day so others can go spend it with family, and someone has to be there anyway with the one kid left in the home. I don't mind. We don't have kids, my family's going to Vegas, he gets some extra $. We're going to celebrate in Jan.

And don't forget the elderly. Perhaps we have relatives that can't get out and about, so take them a plate from that huge Xmas dinner. Or grab a couple of friends, visit the local Dollar Tree and buy up some silly or practical $1 items and visit your local Nursing Home. Many of these people have few or no visitors, any smiling face is welcome- and those little trinkets? Give them away willy nilly while you're there and watch some faces light up. I love doing it, makes me not so afraid to get old. :)

Call your local animal shelter and see what they need. Dog/cat toys? old blankets? Food? Office paper? Pens?

I wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday season - whether you celebrate or not... enjoy some time off from work, spend time with those you love.

Thank you everyone some good ideas in this thread :)

My family does seafood for Christmas breakfast: smoked salmon, prawns, crab, oysters, and lobster. I hate oysters but love prawns. Then we do lunch with the relatives we are Italian and we have a huge smorgasbord of food because of course there could never be enough food lol! Munja munja. Trying to fatten me up. Then for dinner we are either to full or we will finish the left over seafood from breakfast.

Your right on the mark Mousey can't forget the elderly. I get a little bit scared though when I was in primary school the class visited a nursing home on an excursion and elderly people need allot of things and have many medical issues that quite frankly seeing makes me get a little scared of growing older. That probably sounds really bad.

I do some work with an animal shelter about four or six times a year.

On a related note, Christmas must be really weird in the southern hemisphere. You guys are basically celebrating the beginning of summer.

Yes was a forty degree day yesterday. Certainly beach and fishing weather but when it's that temperature it just get's a bit ridiculous.

One thing to remember though is that TV advertising costs lots of money, especially during prime time - charities that are helping people don't always have the same kind of advertising budgets as the car dealerships and jewelry stores or Walmart - they have to rely on the local press to get their message out.

Around here there's always a huge push on our local news for charitable organizations. Throughout the winter it's focused on homelessness mostly because of the extreme cold, and the places that help are always looking for coats and boots and mittens and scarves for people when they're out, and sleeping bags and blankets and food for when the mercury drops and they open the doors and they have to find places for all these people to sleep.

Our local charities feed and take care of people every day, and throughout the holidays they put on several big turkey dinners a couple of times a day, so donations there are always welcome too. And if you don't have a lot of extra money, you can always volunteer your time - Ray goes down to the Hope Mission and plays with a band so the people have something to listen to while they're eating.

And then usually right after Halloween they start the toy runs and the clothing drives for womens shelters and the food bank boxes show up everywhere so they can be sure that everyone gets something for Christmas.

It definitely puts things into perspective though - one casino I play at offered a bonus for a $50 deposit, for a minute I was tempted and then I saw that for $50 I could buy TWENTY meals and a warm place to eat it for people who are cold and hungry. :)

We all can do a lot of good things the whole year. I have a godparenthood with a young lady (5 years old now) in Uganda. With one high BJ hand (Euro 40) per month I can help to give her, her family and her village a good future.
Your thread made me reflecting myself and my life. It`s a fact, that people who have money to gamble online are living in a good world with safe homes, food and more or less safety. But the majority in the world is fighting for their lives, day by day.
I thank god that I was born in Europe and not in a poor part of the world and I hope that some day we all have the same chances to have a humane life.

I wish you all a merry christmas

I did all my Christmas shopping this year online. They have this thing where they round your purchase off to the closest dollar and that get's donated. Completely optional. I know that most online casinos already donate to charities but I think it would be great to also give players the option. I mean what's a few cents? But over allot of people it could turn into a decent sized chunk of money that could be donated.

You can always play at Paf and feel that you're doing it for a good cause.

have you guys seen that movie on facebook, where a dude goes up to a homeless person. Then he "magically" finds lots of pocket change, like a hundred
coins and gives them to him. They're everywhere, in his shoes, under his cap, pockets everything!
