Mental aspect of slots

Wow what an interesting thread with many differing opinions. I don't get why people are so hung up on Bonanza. I played it several times and frankly after a while the music does my head in. To me it's like any other high variance slot. Promises you the moon but gioves you a piece of cheese. These enormous wins are to be had for sure but they are very very rare. If you have that mind set going into a game then you should be fine in my opinion. Now with DOA I have done 25k spins since April with no extra 5 spins and no wild line. I am a bit annoyed but understand that is slots and sometimes slots are like a lottery.

Now if you want to get pissed off at a slot try Butterfly Staxx a medium variance slot where hitting the feature which is crappy 6 times out of 10 is very very hard. I rarely get it in under 250 spins.

That is neither here nor there. I don't know Lockinlove but I did enjoy her post even though I didn't follow that 1 million spins on bonanza quest thread so I can't form an opinion on whether she has a gambling problem or not but from here other posts it seemed like she was getting very frustrated with slot. Lets face it many of us are well on our way there. Used to be 400x on a slot wasn't that hard to get five years ago but today we are delighted with 100x.

The newer slots in my opinion are designed for a younger demographic who are fairly new to slotting and wouldn't remember the golden age of slots so they are happy with mediocre wins.

Sorry if my post is all over the place, it's way past my bed time and I am tired. Bonanza is capable of that monster hit but I bet only a few people will ever see it. If I recall we only had one member with a 10kx hit on DOA and he quit gambling a few months later. As long as people realize that a monster hit on Bonanza is very very rare and don't chase it then they will be okay. If you feel a slot is getting to you on a psychological level then stop playing it. I wish Lockinlove all the best and am sure she will be fine :)

Well that's my 2cents on the subject anyways.

Imo BGT have taken advantage of the fact that there's no rules surrounding the variance of slots and have set theirs sky high.

Dont know on the stats but im sure over time slot tracker will throw up a decent over all picture

All i know is im up over 2 grand on this slot over all. And they dont need to gimp the slot ... its all in the maths meaning we all fucekd in the end
if I continue to play I will for sure go under on profit and loss .... unless I hit 15.000 x on max bet :D

Personally me these days I love the more volatile games ...

Slot tracker has missed most of my spins?? funny how in grabbed my near 100x win and another stupid few x round.

S at the minute slot tracker is not even going to give a true reflection, at the minute my stst are still bad on it but if took into account the other spins people would be shocked

Bonanza is so volatile you probably loose RTP in same way as for a jackpot-game. While the chance of hitting a 100x multiplier and 10-20 5OAK diamonds in the bonus are next to nothing the payout is substansial enough for it to add up to the TRTP. So unless you plan, and have the budget for spinning many millions of spins, its probably not worth hoping to catch up on the TRTP of that slot.

I took some time last week to read my parting thread to see the comments. I felt the people who took the time to wish me well or comment, I should at least take the time and effort to read through them.

I came across this thread because of the title.

While most of the posts are positive, I will admit I was surprised to see a few comments being made in here about me. I felt the need to respond but I decided to take some time and relax and cool down so I wasnt unreasonable with my response.

Let me address the few who stated I have a gambling addiction. This is what I couldnt disagree with anyone more. In my eyes, a person who is addicted to something does not simply change their life in the flick of a finger. A problem gambler continues to deposit, raise stakes and chase losses. I got tired of stuff and had enough and quit depositing my money. I am also well up overall and a degenerate just thinks oh well im up just throw it all back in and hope for more. Since I am neither, I did the responsible thing and pretty much stopped depositing.

I am a firm believer if you want to call things out and complain and you have the power to do something about it, you should. And I did.

What made me quit?

#1. I was fed up.

#2. Deadspins, teases and small wins. Since I feel slots have now turned into scratch tickets, almost every game I played was the same out come. Tonnes of spins with terrible returns and finally hit a bonus that would pay under 20x a huge percentage of the time.

#3 Jurassic World. I lost my faith in MG. I felt like this was their return slot and I was pretty excited only to be absolutely gutted. They made this slot just like the rest of the new releases they and others have been coming out with.

#4. Bonanza. First off let me explain about this challenge I started. I took a couple weeks away from the slot and got refreshed and over the past few months I had many messages asking me to do a 1 million spin challenge. No one forced me too, it was just a fun suggestion since people realized I loved the slot and would play it anyways. So I figured what the heck. This was always about fun and hoping to put this slot on my list of being conquered. And by saying conquered I do not mean what some have suggested. Its meant as an exciting way to beat up a slot, I found that enjoyable.

Next came the monetary part of it. If people want to see this, how can I limit my losses. I figured BTG would maybe throw some bonuses my way, casinos would offer me reload, maybe some sign ups and donations (I never expected or relied on that, it was just there if people wanted to). This was never to try and gan a profit but limit my losses since they would be large.

a)Here is where things went sour. I messaged BTG about some graphic stuff and requests about the slot. I did not get so much as a response. I felt that was really rude and I was taken a little back because in reality he is getting exposure from my challenge. I sent another message telling him i didnt appreciate being ignored and it was super rude. His response was he only read messages once a week. However, speaking to members about other things in pm, I came to find out he answered other members after my messages to him. So now I felt disrespected by the slot provider I was doing the challenge about.

b)One casino contacted me and wanted me to do the challenge through them and in return I would get reload bonuses to help me get through the variance. I thought perfect...until i realized they didnt offer my currency and there was no way I could fight bonanza and the currency exchange fee's.

c) I contacted a casino and showed them that some popular streamers were contacting me about the challenge, how I would find people talking about it all over the gambling part of twitch, popular streamers posting the odd comment on my channel and the attention it was getting. I was loyal to this casino, I was a loser and all I was asking for was a bit of reloads to help. They wanted more. They wanted to see the average traffic in my streams and how many sign ups I was getting them first. I again felt a little insulted.

That is my fault. I should not have had any expectations at all.

d) Bonanza was not co operating. While I got off to a decent start my last 25,000 tracked spins were somewhere around 77% rtp and the game was just always cold. And then the bad bonus came. The super rare bonus that just never comes along, came. And I thought finally and if anything this will give me at the very minimum 500x to get me out of this slump ive been in. Only to see each spin almost all dead.

#5. Watching the battles and weekend battle challenges from videoslots really played with my mind. While I did enjoy them it really showed me how bad these newish slots are. I remember at the end of a weekend there was like 1.5 million spins done on book of dead. And only 2 people hit the 5000x. So whats that, 1-750,000 chance to hit 5000x your bet. No thanks. Then watching the scores and seeing 2 people out of 30 getting over 100% rtp on average. Or only 1 person out of 500 and 50,000 spins hitting 700x.

#6. I was VIP at a casino that ended very weird for me and quite insulting. At first, I was given freechips and friendly emails from my host. Once they realized I will just keep depositing and playing regardless of how they treat me, everything suddenly stopped. No more friendly emails, no more responses to anything, waiting 45 minutes for a chat rep and on and on. I am not your ATM and I want to be treated like a person. So this was just another negative to add to the growing list.

#7. I was not having fun or being entertained. To me, slots have always been about exciting bonus rounds, ups and downs and the feeling that I could maybe hit something wonderful.

I felt none of that anymore. I felt bored beyond tears and before I was always able to go back to the old slots to get some wins or excitement. But I played them so much, I got bored with that too. So now I had nothing but new slots to play that I think are designed all way too high variance. If I want to have the same odds as scratch off, there is a store around the corner. Slots have become less exciting to me. Look at all these new releases, which slots are truly awesome and fun? Maybe 1 or 2.

The batman jackpot slots are gone. That sucked I really like them. Lord of the rings was one of my favs. That disappeared years ago. And all these new releases are clones and games mashed together. I feel like the industry is making so much money, they just dont care to put out anything enjoyable anymore. And thats a huge reason for me stepping away for awhile. I dont want to be one of the people who gamble just because to gamble. I want to have fun while giving them my money. And I am not.

#8. I lost netent and dont have WMS. And while some may say you should be thankful you dont have netent. I disagree. 5 of my fav slots were from netent. This hurt me and my enjoyment a lot.

I complained on the forum about alot of it. Who wants to read complaining all the time? I sure dont. I like people alot here and I didnt want to start arguing all the time or lose the people I liked and enjoyed talking with. So I thought to myself, this is becoming too negative and im not enjoying it. Its time to quit or at the very least take a break.

So this wasnt a hissy fit being thrown by me because I couldnt handle a losing streak. It was the feeling of being disrespected, boredom and negativity. That bonanza bonus was just a tiny part of me quitting, everything came to a head and I was done.

And finally, I loved posting all my wins here. I spoke about it, I showed screenshots and I bragged about some nice cashouts. But what kind of person would I be if I didnt post when I lost or went on bad streaks? What kind of person would I be to lead others on who may be unfamiliar with the gambling scene but come across my posts and think wow if she can win like this and never lose, well so can I. And then they deposit and lose and chase until they have nothing. That would be on me. So I made sure to try and post my results both good and bad.

I am not being a cry baby. I just need some time to relax and do things at my own pace where maybe I can find my love for slotting again and respect for the industry. And just to add, We should all appreciate reps like Dan, Rachel and Karolina. They are a small example of how we all used to get treated by all these casino's that has somehow been lost along the way. They make us feel like people and not like their own bank machine.

I really appreciate everyone commenting on me, good or bad. And to the few who say they arent fans of me. Come and have a raspberry vodka with me and I bet I will have you laughing in no time :)

I just need some time to relax and do things at my own pace and I may return......just to argue with some of you in the Donald Trump thread ;p

I don't like how some people jump on others, like a pack of wolves at times and I felt for you LIL reading some of the comments on this thread and others. We are all people and some more sensitive than others, I live by the rule that if you can't say something good about someone then don't say anything at all.

That said I hope you are well LIL, I personally miss you on here :)

Thanks for the elaborate response Lockinlove. Good thing you quit now that the fun of playing has disappeared and because of the other stuff with BTG. You're absolutely right about the respect from casinos too. We're not ATMs, we're people who want to gamble but especially be entertained.

I'll sure miss your input and winning screenshots as I am also a fan of Bonanza. All the best LiL, maybe you'll just pop in now and then to share some other things not related to this *horrific*:D slot.:)

there is the lockinlove we all know and love on here....good to hear from you. enjoy your time!

see you on the trump thread!! lol

Was thinking like that, wondering how is it ok for some casinos to cap winnings. Trancemonkey explained that it is legal to cap winnings only if that doesn't affect the TRTP. Bonanza winnings are caped at 250k at casinos like Sky Vegas, meaning that bigger wins don't add anything important (less than 0.005%) to the TRTP. In other words bigger wins are almost impossible to get.

I've thought about this as well. It would only apply to a limited number of games but you cannot say the RTP of a particular game is X if you impose a cap on the maximum win on an external factor i.e. we don't want to pay more than 250K but the machine is capable of paying much more.

I think there is another general problem with games that have an 'unlimited' element to them which is this. Suppose some freak of nature happened whereby bonanza got upto a 200 multiplier in freespins and you ended up with some insane win.....let's say 2,000,000 X. The logic of the game is such that this could happen regardless of how rare it might be, however, were this to ever happen to anyone I'm quite sure the bet would be voided. Likewise, imagine a bonus on JATB where the wild reels literally never stopped coming meaning you could never finish the round. Of course I understand both of these things are highly unlikely to ever happen but the fact remains they could possibly. In anything where there is unlimited potential....a win cap seems like a sensible solution.

For that reason I wanted Dan to confirm that Videoslots will pay any win, and they did :)
There are other games with potential. Like Buffalo Blitz over 50,000 x 200 = 10,000,000.

All cap payments though. 10k per week or something.

The unlimited element applies to most slots. Get the free spins on many a game and it says the amount you can get is unlimited but obviously it is not going to keep repeating to over a million spins.

People seem to be getting carried away and confused by how much slots will pay and exactly what random means. They seem to think that hey this slot might give me a 250x multiplier with a full screen of diamonds and pay millions times bet.

It is impossible. A s has been explained before. Yes the amount you win is random and every spin is random. But as soon as you press spin the result comes back as to what you win everything you see is eye candy.

Play a Jackpot slot and as soon as you press spin it will be decided randomly what you will get. Clicking the bonus then spinning the wheel is just for fun. If you are getting millions its already decided. How you play the bonus round is just for show.

It is basically the same. Hit spin and the servers send data that your spin has won you 500x bet. Thats what you get whether you get 10 free spins or it repeats 10 times. The unlimited bit basically means it could maybe repeat 10 , 20, or a 100 times no limit until it matches what is already decided you won. Obviously picking certain features on some slots will pay different amouts. But again once you choose your feature it will be decided how much you win the actual reels spinning again are eye candy. And gambling wins can affect payout as well,

But remember all slots are programmed. They are random in the sense every spin is a random amount you can win . But obviously the slots will be programmed in such a way that you may get a 50000 times stake win but no way out will the computer award a 10000000 x stake win on a £40 stake bet.

Its been said many times that the computer has many different wins or losses. Soon as you spin it randomly selects one outcome and thats what you get. Whether its a losing spin or a 5 reel wild desire. But it can not give a win amount its not allowed to.

Every slot will have a max win no matter what anyone says. Take MG slots they say maybe max win is say 555000 coins. Hit spin that will be max you can randomly get. You are not going to pick Loki feature in TS2 and get 15 spins with the wild filling every position on the screen every spin as it is programmed s o that will not happen. It is all eye candy it will only ever give you the wins it has randomly decided are yours.

I am wholly with you on this one.

But we have trancemonkey saying different. He said many a time that when a bonus kicks in that it hasn't yet been decided how much is won and that each of the individual reel spins are decided by the RNG (trancemonkey - if I am wrong then please correct me).

At least with games that say you can win up to xxxx coins you know the potential of the game or with games that have a set number of free spins you can work out from the pay table the absolute maximum win.

With games that have unlimited features such as Bonanza there is no way knowing what it is capable of producing. You may have won 10,000x on it but you are kept wondering whether there is more in the pot so you may continue playing it.

Maybe max wins should be displayed on each slot, even those that have unlimited features.

I am not in anyway confused about slots work and reading your post suggests that it's quite possibly you who is lacking the understanding.

I do of course understand how extremely unlikely some of these events are from ever occuring. But using the infinite monkey theory - if it can happen then given enough time it will happen.

My point was the sensible thing to do seems like an in-game win cap. Because the one time a game like Bonanza spits out the 1,000,000+ win I guarantee the word 'void' won't be too far behind.

There are actually a lot of slots where max pay is possible, and even touted, but its like 10 freespins all with full screens of wilds. Microsoft is notorius for this, there have been many threads over the years, and they don't always even get the math right.

Even when a casino has a max cap on winnings, it doesn't mean the game doesn't pay, it just means the casino doesn't.

Not looking for math geeks, but let's say I'm playing $2 a spin and hit 60,000 x my bet... I won't hit that cap.

But if I'm playing $100 a spin, even a 5000x win means half a million... you want to make sure it's not capped if you are playing those kind of stakes.

Landbased, there's a slot of slots with max payouts... . but 5 cent machines and $5 machines of the same game will have a different sticker for amount.

Different things appeal to different people, and slot designers do use psychology.

We are not all the same, and slots are not all the same.

They want us coming back again and again... JUST LIKE MOST BUSINESSES.

Two scatters does not mean you are due to get three. If it's IR and and win another spin I"m less unhappy than losing.

But it keeps my interest and hope, and games that don't do that, dont' make it to my top 100 with a bullet.

I hate jerky and slow games, and I like certain colours and themes than other. A good soundtrack can keep me goming back, win or lose, I'm having fun.

Just liek film makers, if they keep you entralled and leave the outside behind, isn' that what your are buying?

I buy too much avoidance, but I am trying to cut down.

There's a market for that.

Starburst has it's reason's it a popular slot. I played a lot of it when I still had NetEnt. It's pretty, and Magilicous is not.

A thread about the mental aspect of slots cannot ignore the mental aspects of gamblers... that's the target demographic. But we have old ladies like me, dudes with fancy cars and big jobs, couples taking turns pressing the spin key because it's cheaper than a babysitter or a cable subscriptions.

Gamblers may even be a subset of slot players. It helps to get used to losing.

Okay i am the one that does not understand slots.

Again you mention the infinite theory. The slot is programmed. The win is randomly picked when you spin.

If a slot is programmed properly there will be no millions of times multiplier available.

Sorry but if anyone really believes that the slot has no maximum cap and you can possibly keep getting multipliers , unlimited free spins and no maximum that it will pay out then each to their own.

Does the fact that noone has yet had a 50x multiplier in free spins not show something.

Really if people want to believe that it is possible to play a 20p bet that could possibly end up with multipliers of a 1000x as its programmed to have no limits and pay millions from a 20p bet then each to their own

All games are meant to be tested and the makers know just exactly what a slot can pay. No casino would touch a no jackpot slot that has no cap on winnings . Say 20p could win a million then £20 could win 100 million. Anyone that believes thats possible lives in cloud cuckoo land.

If it was Netent , MG any other supplier their would be an answer somewhere to what max win is.

BTG will not answer the question here. It is hardly in their interests to say exactly what it can pay when people believe it can pay unlimited wins. No doubt if the right people questioned the owners and makers of their slots they would get the answer as legally they have to. But they arent in a hurry to post the answers in forums.

What interests me is certain casinos payout max on slots.

Take William Hill. They say max payout on Happy Holidays is £88,000. Which at their stake levels will be correct.

Other slots vary . Some are £50,000 others are £400,000 and £600,000.

By looking at their max payouts they are willing to pay half a million on a slot. So why is Bonanza stating max payout £250,000. If they are stating others slots have a much higher max payout why have they got it so low. If they will pay half a million on some MG slot why would they not have a higher max on Bonanza if it could pay millions.

You would think it would be a case of we will put a cap on winnings of half a million on this slot in line with payouts of many other slots.

if people want to say I'm wearing a tin foil hat, they can.

Went back to VS and lost another $50. I have reached the point where I think the slot providers have truly made the slots feast or famine. You will either get the max hit on a slot or bust. The days of building bankroll are over. I am one of the lucky ones as I am the only person on this planet with a 5000x win in Viking Runecraft but others haven't had that same luck. Mentally, I have to hope I luck out and hit the "progressive". Just killing my interest in European slots.
