If you look at the press release headline again, it says "Mega Moolah hits 6.3 Million Dollars at CasinoAction.com."

It "hits" 6.3 million, as in, "Mega Moolah has reached this amount, that's a lot of money, so come play it now at Casino Action, plug, plug, link, link...."

I think the timing of the press release is an interesting coincidence, that's all.

I don't know where the hit actually happened yet, but if I find out, I'll be back with the answer.

I think Dave is right - this coincides with a publicity push on Mega Moolah now that it is approaching the 6.4 mill mark and new record levels for progressives.

There have been several press releases from MGS-powered casinos on this theme, and this is probably another confusingly worded example.

I haven't seen any other references to this so far, although we have a query in with MGS which I hope will bring forth a definite answer come Monday.

Edited to add that I hope that when this huge jackpot is finally won, the casino responsible bears in mind that it is the player's good fortune that should be celebrated and not the casino that should be front-and-centre.

Too often we read press releases crowing about a good win and telling us very little about how the win unfolded, the player's thoughts and his or her plans for the future etc - that's the really interesting part, not the casino's over-hyped virtues. The casino publcity people too often seem to forget that.

I thought the jackpot had always been seeded by MG in because it's the strongest currency you can play with and if won by any other currency, only a portion of the pot (ie $6.3m from the total pot of 6.3m) would be paid out.

Yeah, the jackpot was definitely hit (I recorded it), and the win happened in pounds ().

If the jackpot had reset to anything other than 1,000,000, then the currency would have been $, , or R (South African Rand).

The first-ever hit of Mega Moolah was actually in Rand -- I remember the size of the jackpot dropped only slightly (like 340,000 or something), but the South African winner received R4.3 million since that is the currency he/she was playing with.

I originally thought the press release was wrong, but now I think it's right. Here's what I think happened:

6,374,434 to begin with
- 5,705,866 (6,374,434 = 5,705,866)
= 668,568 remaining in the pot

But the base "reset" amount is 1 million, so they just bumped it back up to 1 million.

So, my earlier post wasn't correct -- a reset to 1 million doesn't necessary mean the win happened in GBP. It could mean that the win happened in GBP or EUR.

This interesting conversation on exchange rates and re-seeding aside, I believe this thread is primarily about one lucky son-of-a-gun player in Greece (?) who has set a new record in online progressive jackpot wins.

That's truly something to celebrate and remark upon, and I'm sure we'll be reading a lot more about this.

Hopefully the publicity will be centred on the winner, and not on how glorious the online casino at which he won it is.
