I'm a good friend of Frenchies, using his name here. I recieved a letter today from the attorney generals office asking me about my payment from web masters. They knew how much the check was for. It was originally from Paradise Poker that sent me to Century Poker. Century Poker bounced checks on me 2 times from "Web Masters" I finally got paid as Frenchie did months later. They wanted to know if I ever got paid, if the checks were good and if not who they were from. Asked to send copies of the checks, envelopes with return addresses etc. I don't know what's going on here, but it wasn't a certified letter, therefore I am not replying to it.
Has anyone else had a problem, or recieved a letter as such? Any imput here?
Any advice?

It would be much appreciated.
Thanks..........Good friend of Frenchies

Talk to a lawyer. Consultations usually aren't too costly.

(I'm going to surprise everyone by not going into a rant on the DoJ broadening it's intimidation sweep to include individual online gamers.)

There is also the poster Jsteph10 who has a "letter from Utah" post in the U.S. Players pd by Golden since Doomsday thread. :eek2: That makes 3 this week. It 's spreading like a bad rash.

Am I wrong, but wasn't it Utah where a group of people were arrested for the whole online gaming situation (funneling money from credit cards to Asia and then back again?)

That's correct, but don't know if they are related.
One of the processors that was bouncing checks was a detroit firm using a bank in Utah. I think it was late Jan or early feb when the bank quit handling the items.
My guess is that the AG is interested because people filed complaints.
I personally wouldn't respond w/o consulting an attorney.

The first thing I would do, after changing my shortez. We all know that our letters could be coming. I cracked open my mailbox yesterday with a mild amount of trepidation. I would have never thought this stuff possible here. It is the IRS aspect that has me slightly on edge. Just the possibility of having to re-file prior year returns gives me the heebie-jeebies.

And Mouse, your rants are SPOT ON.

God its great to live in FREE country like America!

Where the Government works for the people and does not dictate to the people.

Where you can live without fear of going to jail for playing a card game with other adults.

Where you can spend your money the way you want without fear.

God its great to live in a FREE country like AMERICA!

P.S.
Send them a note back and tell them to... FUCK OFF.

i agree 100% except for the fxxx off part lots0, that would just make it worse.:)

Well I hope they send me a letter like that so I can tell them to fuck off myself. :)

IMO - These people NEED to be told to "Fuck Off" once in while.

Unless you qualify as a professional gambler, you can only take a Schedule A deduction for your losses up to the amount of your winnings.

Then the U.S govt. need to quit treating all its citizens who gamble as professionals.
I don't even understand why they feel the need to tax gambling winnings anyway. People can only gamble with already-taxed money. If you want to tax someone, tax the friggin' casinos since they're the professionals. Don't re-tax money that has already been taxed, assholes. :D

Hip Hip Hooray, Slots Junkie

I'm with you 110% on this one, my friend. Blows me away the way our government gets us coming and going. Tax this, tax that. SIN TAX for crying out loud. Let's get together a group of 'real' people, living and working in this country and THEN define what is a sin and what is not. If my soapbox weren't in the shop for repairs due to over use I'd get up on it right now. lol Cas

Question? When will the American People get off their butts and say Enough is Enough!? What are you scared of? The French people don't like something their government is doing. They get off their asses and go and shut the whole government down. Maybe there is a lesson we can learn from them.

You're an American too, what are you doing about it? That's rhetorical.

The biggest problem is that gambling online is for the most part, an individual activity. I have no real-life friends who gamble online, and I would guess that the majority of other members here don't either.

If I were to run up and down the streets by myself with signs saying "Repeal the UIGEA" it would accomplish NOTHING.

If all of the US members of this forum got together and picketed in Washington, that might be a different story. But guess what? Didn't the Poker Players Alliance do that? And did it even make the fucking news?

What it boils down to is that the politicians will do whatever the hell they want to do and pass whatever laws they want to pass, e$peially if there i$ $ome $ort of inentive for them to do it. Maybe this is just my opinion, or maybe I just don't have any good ideas, but I fail to see how I alone could change the legal climate towards online gambling. And please don't tell me to write to my congressman - he's the one who wrote the bill (HR2046) which, if passed, would repeal the UIGEA. I think it's safe to say that he's already on my side.
