Kentucky orders many domains seized

i think Vera sign is subject to the USA and dot com has something to do with it unlike dot E U

but its a guess only so any one please chime in

When a .com is seized by the feds it means they've taken control of the name-space on the internet associated with it. This will allow them to block access to the website.

Its usually a step in legal proceedings, or indictments- the US is 'cracking down' on these American Facing casinos and trying to make it hard for them.

Unfortunately, (or, perhaps fortunately.) Many of the reputable casinos don't have .coms anymore. So, it might just be election year showing off- or general grandstanding.

Many of the Casino's on Bingo's list seem to be pretty shady joints anyways. I'm not sure its much of a loss in the end. :p

I see what you are saying but some of them on the list are and have been accredited here for many years. How does this affect them? Or doesn't affect them at all? Or does it just affect the ones that use Verisign? The more I read it the more confused I seem to be.

For the casino's accredited here, I'd PM the Reps to see what's up. I'm sure many of the casinos have a European branch, or backup domains (.eu for instance) to keep squatters from stealing them- or for dishonest casinos to tarnish their names.

If they have backup domains, I imagine it won't be a big issue- if they don't, it might be a minute before they get back where they belong.

But.. I imagine it won't be long! Those CAsinos like the money, and the US is where it all is! :p

There are several microgaming casinos that don't even serve US players.

Who made Kentucky courts able to decide that a casino can't have a dot com registration? Is Verisign based in Kentucky?

They're based in Virgina. They control the .com, the .net and the .name TLDs (thats the Top level domain- at the end of the URL)

I'm not surprised you find it confusing - this is a long-running back-and-forth legal issue that has been continuously reported on Casinomeister News - the latest being these developments (see Casinomeister News for the week ending 23 March)

I find it puzzling that Judge Wingate has issued seizure orders whilst an appeal before the superior courts in his own state has yet to be decided, but then it seems to me that Wingate does his own thing anyway - look at the way back in 2009 he intially claimed as a relatively lower court judge to have jurisdiction over international domains as an indication of how he views the world.

I'm pretty sure that the owners of the domains he has now ordered seized have long ago made alternative arrangements...and it's another cautionary example of the inadvisability of having .com domains that US officialdom can abuse...this supposedly international internet address is clearly regarded by judicial officials like Wingate as a US fiefdom.

Odd thing. I've tried most of them and the sites are still live, or they redirect to a .eu site.

A number of these casinos have been using the .eu counterparts for a couple of years now, so I really don't know what these jerk-offs are trying to prove.

Besides being a hassle for the casino operators, it just goes to show the arrogance of the US court system. They should just shut down the Internet in Kentucky IMO. If the politicians don't think that their constituents are smart enough to navigate the web and make choices for themselves, then they should block the Internet entirely. Or filter in official news services and the Disney channel. That would make things much easier for everyone.

From what I gather the Judge has ordered them to be shut down, the process will take some time to complete. But due to no response from the OC's back to the court they'll be down before long.

At least thats how I read it..

Darn it. When I saw Kentucky orders I thought it was about fried chicken.:D and I thought of ordering some.

A quick look at the list brings back memories and I believe I had/have accounts in at least 60% of them. OK, let them seize the domains and sooner or later all will switch to .eu. Jackpot Capital had a high profile switch months ago and even awarded freebies when they did so.

Well, ALL the Microgaming casinos have gone beyond what is required of them, and have not merely shut out Kentucky players, but ALL US players. For some time, NO US player has been able to gamble at these sites, so it would ONLY be non-US players likely to be affected by this move. This is the US government enforcing a law ONLY where such a law does not apply. This will only serve to makle them a global "laughing stock", but could have worse repercussions if the action affects a business that does NOT do any business in the US, such as another WTO ruling against the US.

To ANYONE other than the US courts and DoJ, it is clear that many of these sites HAVE fully complied with the requirements to stop Kentucky residents from gambling online, and a few are now completely "dead" domains.

This risks changing the international view of the internet that a "com" domain is not country specific to one where "com" becomes understood to be US specific. This will mean the US based registrars will lose a fair amount of business as global companies will no longer go for a "com" domain, but would seek the creation of a completely new domain suffix that CANNOT be shut down by any individual countrys' courts, but only by an international court or committee.

And not just global companies. I certainly won't be registering any gambling-related .com's for a while.
