Hi

I am a new hold'em player. I deposited 100 dollars each to paradise poker, party poker and pacific poker and it took less than half an hour each to lose these deposits.

We found the website of Hold'em Inspector V2 accidentally while searching for poker books . its price is 99 dollars and it says there is no need to be an expert to use this programme.

If there is anyone who has used this programme could he/she kindly tell me if it is worth buying? Will it be of any help or will it make my toatl loss 399?:)

Thanks

Losing $100 in less than half an hour three times suggests you need to start at lower limits and develop your fundemental skills more.

You are probably playing way too many hands and calling to much (most new poker players do). Pick up a good beginners poker book and learn which hands to play, how to calculate basic pot odds, etc.

The program looks pretty useful, but just starting out you should develop the basic skills first. And a good book will be a better investment (you can actually get poker books free from a number of affiliates).

poker book

thanks for your kind reply.

i bought a book. its title is hold'em poker by david sklansky and mason malmuth.

i started reading and immediately got bored. well i like action not preparation.

i will buy the inspector. One more question by the way is it certain that the cards are shuffled randomly? Some guys always had good hands while some others including me had usually terrible cards.

It is not very expensive and i have some money to spare by the way since I was paid thirty thousand dollars by an online casino which happens to be on the rogue list:). They had confiscated 830 dollars of mine so i have a net profit of 30000-830= 29.170 to spare!!!!

you have already told me enough for me to know you have the wrong mentality for ring game poker. So what name do you play under?

Unfortunately i do have a conscience - damn.

What you need is not a bit of software but a bit of skill and a bit of sense.

Poker requires loads of discipline which you do not seem to have but it also requires self knowledge and that you do.

If you want action then play tourneys - and play them cheap dont play big money till you have learned skills and discipline. Secondly play 2-6 games at once - you do not have the patience for playing 1 game tight so play 3-4 games or 1 game and solve quadratic equations at the same time - which ever you prefer. But start cheap - get the occasional but of big action from a satellite/ double shootout tourney but start focusing on turning a profit at what ever level and go from there. A bankroll should last months not hours and a player making a few cents a week will often be a better player than someone playing 1/2$ NL without success.

So play low stakes , multitable, stick to tourneys and learn discipline of both your bankroll and your game

""" I noted while reviewing your account that you see on average 89% of the flop. Our profitable players typically see less than 30% of flops and usually closer to 20%. Any winning or professional player will tell you that no player could ever win playing that many hands. Poker is a game of patience, and players who play too many hands lose too much money hand in and hand out to be able to show a profit on the hands that they do win. And as Lee H. Jones said in one of his many articles on bad beats , "So, you don't need to rig poker decks to get "bizarre" results. A reasonably shuffled deck of cards will do that for you."

That is what paradise poker rep says about my style.

My membername is deeperpurple at paradisepoker and party poker.

It is aliparla at pacificpoker.

Thanks for the concerns but the webpage says that the inspector will tell me when to fold when to check and when to raise so why do i need skill patience etc? the program will tell me how to play and i will follow the instructions isnt that the case?

my pleasure

following instructions requires quite a lot of patience - paricularly when if you play tight you could literally never win a pot in an hour (and then tripple up 5 min later after a couple of monsters came your way) because the advice will generally be fold and that does get boring after a while. So patience will still be a key skill. Also do not bet that the recommendations will be good! Poker bots still have a long way to go before they really threaten humans (if they ever will)

Blackjack tourneys would also be fun (the freezeout kind) in these you can be wildely aggressive and it still be profitable. If you like tourneys in general

Even utilising the program multitabling would help make the game more fun - i generally play 2-4 games at once and this stops me getting bored. As you develop poker skills you will have more and more to do on each table but even still it is quite easy to do.

my 2 cents would be that you only play tournaments and sit n go for $5 or $10 a pop and don't even consider going back to a cash game until you are consistently profitable in the former.

I would be against buying this
Firstly alot of sites have been banning people with this kind of software ( they can actually check what you have running in background..beyond me )
Not sure about this one though so it might be ok

Even so they are no substitute for a good poker brain

You definately need to work on your discipline lol 89% goes beyond fish....its well into sperm whale area!:D

I know this isnt what you want to hear but the old saying:- you can learn in 2 mins but takes a lifetime to master holds true with poker
There is no substitute for experience

I disagree with playing 6 tables at once.. complete madness for a novice!
This is mainly done by experienced players who play very mechanically, mainly playing limit poker ( alot of bonus chasers do this and are complete rocks ) , this is also very mindnumbing..hence the popular term grind!

If you are serious about winning money you will need to learn about starting hands / bankroll / limits / position / deceptive plays.. the list is long.
Get a few good books , slansky is too heavy for a novice, and you will soon pick up the basics.
Also try a few dif types of games (sit n gos , limit , no limit , multi table tourneys ) see what you enjoy

There are a couple of very good programs out there that will download and record all your stats from the sites, pokertracker is prob the most well known.. this is a great learning tool.

I would also advise starting at the low levels.. but judging by your posts i get the feeling you want to get stuck right in!

Good luck:thumbsup:

WAYLANDER

Just to give a little insight here, when I play in tournaments, let's say 385 hands are delt, I only play 15% of that.

If your playing good, strong poker, your suppose to be bored.
If you like alot of action, choose another game. Playing 89% of the hands is insane unless your playing heads up.

A nice starting point would be a single table sit & go for $0.50, $1.00, $2.00 etc until you can build your skills up.

But also note, only playing in tournaments is not a good idea, only a few, a very few, poker pros can make a living at tournament play.

Wow they actually contacted you and said that! Amazing!!

But as the other posters have said poker can be boring and frustrating a lot of the time and it takes a lot of skill and experiance to win even at low limits these days.

One book I would recommend is "Internet Texas Hold'em" by Matthew Hilger. Very good limit poker book aimed at players with basic knowledge of the game who want to improve and it has a lot of actual hands included and discussed. I still re-read it every now and then.

What, everyone is tight? Play only the good hands? I find that doing this all the time, makes it easy to find your pattern. I mean 89% is damn loose, but more importantly, you need to learn to fold. I'll practice my loose aggressive style and beat you tight players. I never met a hand I didn't like. Watch me take all your money when you get AA and the flop comes 468. :D Learn to fold.

thanks everybody

thanks everyone for the advice.

i have had all my accounts cancelled. i have no intention to play online poker from now on. it simply is not my game.

i tried draw poker as a last resort. when i had three sevens the opponet had a straight. when i had a full house he had four eights. each time i had a good hand people had better ones.

from now on i will play when i can touch the cards. or see the dealer dealing them. i have no confidence in online poker.

Heh, ya. If you are playing ring games with that kind of flop percent, amazing you lasted a half hour.

Sit N Go's is the thing for you bro. 5+1's on party are a decent bet. And if you love the action, play the turbo ones. You will get all your money in pretty quickly.

If you are first in the pot, raise it.
If you can call, raise.

You have the discipline of an aspiring maniac, but you can fool em, become an educated maniac. Nuttin worse. Swings are huge, but the swings go both ways.

I would strongly recommend playing tight and just be hyper-aggressive with it. AA, KK, AK suited, AK off, QQ, AQ suited, AQ off. Don't get crazy over suited connectors yet, too twitchy and there are many many nuances that go along with playing em. As a beginning player, you won't know em *shrug*. Pocket pairs are stellar if you can get the small once in cheap, but you are playing em for set value only. Assume at the lower limits that you will absolutely have to show down a hand. Your pocket 4's, if you don't connect, are losers...don't lose you bankroll over em. Oh, and don't become a suited tard. J, 3 of spades might look good, you might ever take down the occasional pot with em, but overall, in the long run, you are hemmoraging money every single time you play em.

Do an experiment. See those hands I listed above? 4 table at .5/1 and only play those hands. Fold everything else. See how it comes out. If nothing else, I can guarantee that your 100 bones will last much longer than a half hour =)

Don't throw in the towel so quickly! Poker is a money maker. If you are really getting reamed, that is the joys of this evil bitch goddess. But, solid poker will always turn a profit in the long run. If you have any specific questions bro, feel free to PM me, happy to help ya out. We all started a bit rough in the poker world, but many of us have turned into long term winners.

I got killed the first couple deposits I ever did in online poker. It's not too hard to make some money if you study up and practice. But I get the feeling the game is too slow for you.

The advice to play SNGs is probably your best bet if you get back into poker. I like the 5-person games - quick and easy. You can cause some damage being a maniac so long as you know when to back off.

dreamtheatre dont give up mate. Evan as an experianced player you can go through weeks of losing sometimes. Its heartbreaking sometimes and makes you wanna cry but it does end!!

Just remember when you play poker well and are better than your opponants (which at low limits isnt that difficult) you will have a long term edge. And that beats any casino game on the planet so it is worth the time and effort to learn and improve.

And you never know you could be the champ of the WSOP in the future. Chris Moneymaker did it on a $40 buy-in:notworthy

need help

i noticed that i llose much more slowly at five card draw. maybe i can have a chance at that game.

i would really appreciate any help as to where i can find the basic probabilities? such as improving to three of a card while discarding tho cards or catching an open ended straight after a single card draw?

and i would like to learn the safe casinos where i can play 5 card draw or 5 card stud. (except paradise poker where i cancelled my account and pokerroom where i do not want to play)

Have to add a few thoughts to this thread. Firstly, 89% is just insane, there's absolutely no way you can make a profit playing 89% of starting hands on a full table, Phil Ivey would take a pummelling with that kind of ratio. When you talk about 'loose' players you're talking about 40% somewhere round there, 89% is just throwing money away. If you want to win you need to tighten up, I'd suggest playing very tight while you figure out your game, thereafter you can loosen up a bit (but never 89%). Once you've done that you have two priorities.

1. Establish whether or not you're a winning player, you'll need about 100,000 hands to know this. Keep records or even better invest in something like pokertracker/pokeroffice to do it for you.
2. (Only after 1) Establish a bankroll sufficient for your game. A bankroll shouldn't last you 'a long time' it should last you forever. It's sufficient when it reaches a point at which it can absorb natural variance. If you're a losing player it doesn't matter how big your bankroll is, you'll eventually lose the whole thing. I'd recommend no less than 20x the max buy-in for the stakes you're playing. So if you're playing 1/2 you need a 4k bankroll.

As far as odds go, there are various programs out there that'll calculate odds for you (such as texas calculatem), and various websites that will list standard odds. But none are a substitute for working them out yourself, you'll be slow at first, use a calculator, eventually the arithmetic will get easier and if it doesn't you'll start to remember odds for common situations anyway. A quick and dirty way of calculating odds (but not very accurate, so I'd do only use it when you can't pull your calculator out, eg a live game) is number of outs x2 over 1 card or x4 over 2 cards = your chances of making your draw as a percentage.

And if you're serious about winning do read the books. I'd suggest winning at low limit hold'em by Lee Jones (whether you're playing limit or not). If you're playing tournaments, get the Harrington trilogy, they're the best out there by a country mile.

And I'd suggest not bothering with 5 card draw at all, it's all about tells and you have none online.

Now that i am a more experienced player i have read this tread again and once again saw that how useful advices i had recieved.

Thanks again "nafanny29" for suggesting Hilger's book. I downloaded it freely from Emule and it has been more than useful.

Thanks "Kosop" for recommending certain starting hands to play with at the beginning and thanks for suggesting to play at 3-4 tables simultaneously to overcome boredom and impatience. It has been difficult at first but now i can play at 5 tables comfortably

I have followed most of these suggestions. I knew i was clever and brave enough but too impatient . Now i overcame this and according to my calculations i have made a net profit of about about 10.000 dolars in the last five months without needing to buy any software.

Thanks everybody

Wow dreamtheatre thats a huge turnaround to say the least. I have been playing online for 3 years and have a modest but steady winrate of 1.12 BB/100 playing 1/2. (clocked up no less than 663492 hands as of now!!)

I tried moving up to 2/4 and over 8777 hands managed 0.31/100 and at 4533 hands at 3/6 managed -0.03/100.

My main profit comes from steady but small wins + bonuses.

Sidenote.

One network that defies all my data ie Cryptologic, here I am -0.31/100 after over 180000 hands. I am still ahead due to bonus but my opponents seem to hit their outs at an alarmingly high rate, way over the odds. And conversely when I am behind and drawing slim I hit my miracle card way more than I should statistically. Maybe they should rename cryptologic to dreamcard or oddsonriver.
