I remember when 2 days (48hrs) pending was 2 days and not just business days... Feel free to add on to this thread. If you remember some thing from online gambling, back in the day that has changed now. Please share it.

When bonuses were given on little more than a gentleman's agreement and there weren't 100 T&C's to abide by. Sad times when you have to start dictating how people play with their own money but that's the industry we have grown in to!

Really old skool

I remember when:

There were no affiliates.

There were no bonuses, you got what you purchased and that was it.

The only purchase methods were credit cards, Western Union and international bank transfer.

A credit card purchase took a few minutes to complete, and your statement would always be slightly off... (as they were all done manually in the backoffice and in a different currency).

On cashin your purchases were refunded one by one to your card as per the amounts you purchased, the rest was a cheque (or wire if it was large enough).

When variety meant 8 games (4 slots), and great variety meant that some of those slots paid on 3 lines.

Just about all software was download, crappy Java software came later.

Rolling Good Times Online was *the* gaming resource on the web

It was a big deal when 32-bit software was launched.

LOL

I remember all the different platforms and casino's that have come and gone, some really good and most crap.

I remember having shares in Starnet.

I remember thumper MG, miss those days.

I remember when I first looked at online gambling, and the only avenue that seemed to be available to me, was mailing them a cheque and waiting 2 weeks or using my bank account, which still took forever...it was a long time before I discovered disposable CCs, and even those were a headache as some brands worked online, while others didn't.

Free money sign up bonus, 4xb WR... and I even played multi hand video poker to clear it.... no max cash out, no deposit required. I can't even remember which software or casino name - but it wasn't any place that's common now.

I remember when I could deposit $20 and cash out $100 2 or 3 times a week (i miss you Intercasino and Belle Rock). I also remember when they changed the minimum deposit up to $50 for a while. Man, I was pissed!

Fortunately, here in New Jersey, I may get that old feeling back soon!

I remember when RTG added a new video poker offering. Going on 10+ years now I believe ...

- I remember the forum Fat Bonus, long before Tim made Fat Wallet. Seems like a nice guy BTW.

- Being scared I wouldn't make playthrough on 3x!

- So many new casinos opening, getting mobbed with bonus hunters, and closing in a matter of weeks.

- Being threatened by a casino manager that I better not post anything about my experiences with his casino or he wouldn't pay me 4k (it's the reason I joined here).

- Being amazed that RTG BJ could be so brutal.

- Getting paid by PayPal, Firepay, Neteller, etc.

- Almost always getting paid by check (late 1990's).

You must be really old because I was playing MGS casinos in the 90's and they came with a free $10, $15 or $20 (depending of the casino) automatically added to your account after you were done installing them. The money came with no condition at all, freebie hunters were installing the softwares and withdrawing the money without even playing a penny (that's how I found internet casinos). That's back when you'd get a handwritten check in the mail and USD was the only currency available. :)

I even had to open a bank account in USD because I was regularly getting checks (from my winnings) and I was getting hammered with fees. Oh the memories....

Edit: speaking of freebie hunting, during the dot-com bubble (before the burst) many college kids (such as myself) could almost make a living with internet freebies. It was ridiculous. There were Usenet groups dedicated to find freebies and referals and stuff. Many, many companies would give away money and products for free at the time. Anyone remember all those "pay to surf" schemes? My roomate was paying rent with this and there was enough left for beer money.

I remember when all this was farmland, old man Wheatameyer used to let us walk through on our way to school...in the snow...with no shoes...uphill...both ways, and we were damn glad to do it. Damn kids these days get everything handed to them!

I remember when it was more fun playing pacman in the local instead of a shitty fruit machine everywhere (I do know Vinyl loves this though :D )

I remember getting 50 quid just for joining a site.
Then getting an extra 25 quid for every one of my friends who signed up, even though they never deposited and they also got a free 50.

It seems insane these days but it wasn't really hammered.

To be fair in my case and that of my friends it turned out to be an excellent piece of business for them.

I remember when people still played Boss Media casinos (I think Victor Chandler was Boss Media at one point). I even remember thinking that 'Be The Dealer' was a great concept and I couldn't wait to play there (I got that one very wrong).

One thing I can't remember, though, is the name of an online casino I used to play at loads around 8-10 years ago. They were based out of Europe (Switzerland, I think) and used their own software. They were called Gold Player or Golden Player or something like that. Anyone remember these guys?

That was Global Player.

I remember when Neteller made things much easier to deposit and withdraw.

I remember when blackjack games counted in full toward wagering requirements.

I remember when online blackjack bets were randomly won or lost through blackjack rules instead of forced RTP "compliance". (In other words, if you are winning more than the RTP %, then you would lose most of your subsequent hands until you are at or under the RTP %.)

I remember when games other than slots were discussed on Casinomeister! :D

I remember when unread postings would sometimes take three pages in the morning and after I get back from work.

I think I actually came close to crying when Global Player booted USA players out (not long before they closed the doors). More VP than you could shake a stick at, some games I never saw elsewhere online, good paytables, good CS, VP progressives from pennies on up, withdrawals paid out to NeTeller within minutes to under an hour (unless they were swamped, then it might take 2 hours... LOL).

*sigh* I really miss those days....

I remember not having such a long list of restrictions and/or requirements for operators. When running a gaming company was like a walk in the park and it was fun to learn new things and implement them. Now its 10x more complicated for everyone!
