hi i have a ? for players in the u.s.

when you play and cash out by check where do you cash the check?

do you always put it in your bank?

the only reason i,m asking is because i was told by 2 diffdent casinos(r.t.gs)

that i could not cash the checks anywhere if i was to cash out that way and that i could only put them in my bank or they would bounce.

so i,m wondering what other players do caz i have cashed all mine at wal-mart and have not had a promble doing so.
but was told that i could,nt do that any more

i don,t have a bank account and don,t want one.

thanks everyone.

Out of interest, is it normal in the states to not have a bank account?

Over here, it is pretty much unheardof. In fact, you can't get government benefits etc without one (the banks are obliged to provide a fee free account for this purpose).

Sorry it is not an answer but I've wondered for a while.

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I've survived without one..actually, I've even had several which have been closed for lack of usage over the years. I suppose it depends where and how you receive your income if any. Government cheques can be directly deposited or mailed and cashed at cheque-cashing outlets. Same as paycheques. If you have a 'cash' job or under the table job, it's not necessary at all.

No, Nifty, it's not normal, or I should say the usual. Not that you can't get by without a bank account but it would make it more difficult to get certain things like gov't benefits, buy a car, ect. But some people can make it work, especially if you have people contacts.

That is interesting, cashing them at Wal-Mart that is. I always deposit mine at my bank and have never had one bounce (I'm sure my next one will, Lol). Some of my cashouts are in the dollar range where I would feel a little uncomfortable cashing the check at a store. May I ask what the highest $$$ amount you have ever been allowed to cash at Wal-Mart is? Or if that's nosy could you say if you have ever cashed a check at Wal-Mart for $1500-$2000? I would just like to know the protocol for that kind of dollar amount. Thanks.

I have yet to win big enough to cash out but then again i dont deposit much and small amounts at that. I do wonder though if i ever did win where would i cash that check. Im in USA. My check is direct deposit to a mastercard and i dont have a bank account per se. Hmmmm. Any suggestions anyone or possibilities. Thank you:cool:

Something to be taken into consideration... Many banks these days charge fees... if your balance falls below X$... each time to write a check... monthly or annually just to have an account. But if you keep your eyes open, occasionally you'll find promos for "open an account now - free checking!"

Also to be considered, my household banking account that we've had for eons is a joint account. That account has never ever been used for anything online gambling related. Years ago, hubby began to play poker, and I played at casinos. We certainly didn't want a joint account for our gambling account - and, iirc, NETeller wouldn't allow it. :) So, we had to go set up separate little $50 minimum deposit/$50 minimum balance checking accounts. This was back when the majority of basic bank accounts were free.

But if you're going to gamble online... it's always good to have one of the little separate 'special' bank accounts. That way if the bank gets a burr under their saddle about your transactions, bounces a check, etc. it won't be the household/bill paying account that is affected.

I cash out by check regularly and just deposit it into my credit union. Never had a problem cashing it there. I deposit it and then take "cash back" from my deposit.

I can't imagine life without a bank account, but obviously it must work well for you.

You can get along quite well without a bank account in the US. Gov. checks can be direct deposited to any number of prepaid cards and you get them several days ahead of a bank because banks hold until the date of the check. Prepaids don't.

I have one that is called a MoneyAccount which is just like a bank account except no checks.

The problem that you run into trying to cash checks is that most check cashing places call to verify the check at the business and most checks are from places that are no more than a mailbox.

I agree. Got the following data from an article that cheetahwind posted earlier:

According to a 2009 survey conducted by the FDIC, 7.7 percent of U.S. homes don’t have any bank accounts and are classified as “unbanked.”

Yes, not to have a bank account is pretty much unheard of here in Norway as well (tax refund, gov benefits etc are handled through bank accounts).

As for checks, I have not seen a check since I was a little kid, so I honestly would not know what do with it :)

Writing a check in the US now is going away as the norm now also. Some places won't even take a paper check now. Strange how things go.

We are so behind our time you and I:rolleyes: but I have not seen a check since I was a child either, and that was a long time ago. I don't even know if they exists in Sweden:eek2:

You can be without a bankaccount here but it would be plain stupid since banks and stores almost not uses cash anymore. Everyone has a card or 20 and use that for everything.
To pay your bills or take any money out from special stores that's doing that service is so expensive that almost noone using it. Soon I don't think we will use any cash at all. It will all be electronic.

Not everyone here, in the USA trusts banks and quite rightly so, until recently with the 'Big banks'.

The new ruling of transaction fees and overdrawn fees have changed. TG!.

Then, other reasons are that the IRS can conviscate your bank funds and just take when and what they want, if you owe them.

Other reasons are just theft. It's a big problem here.

I am happy with my 'big' bank since the changes in fees...and recently have had to be issued a different debit card due to fraud...so they are on the ball.

You can also have Government checks sent to a Check cashing place here, so no need for a checking account.

The USA understands that many people do not want a bank account. There are of course disadvantages..but we can get by without them. :)

In Aust, I doubt that we could get a home loan without a history of savings..First timers need to show a 6 month savings history before approval in most cases. And pretty much most employers pay into your bank account. They wouldn't believe you here if you said you didn't have one.
