Horse Racing & Tips Thread

Well done with that winner Kenji.

Ended up missing most of racing because of work and then more crap when i got home.

But made up for it with the winner in the last.

Least my horse with Ladbrokes free bet won. Now only £90 of winners to go till my balance is back to 0 lol. One day i will just deposit the money if i need them.

Going to put a bet on tonight for tomorrow in case work goes wrong again lol.

spotted this one if id gone outright it would have been 26 back but still nice end to todays betting proceedings :)

Terrible day for me today, quite a few bets, not a single return :(

Tomorrow I think Sir Gerhard in the bumper is nailed on, especially with the ground drying out. I think the 2/1 generally available will look massive after the race. Also think the same trainer/Jockey combo in the first will win easily, Bob Olinger, currently 6/4. Did a double on them today, but will do a bit more tomorrow and possibly them both to win by 5+ lengths when I see what prices are available. The double currently pays around 6.5/1.

Monkfish is surely a certainty and Chacun Pour Soi should win too. I've backed First Flow EW in Chacun's race, but not sure he will like the track, at 18/1 I'll take a chance.

I love the cross country race, but think the ground will be against Easysland. The softer the better for him, and although he might win, I wouldn't want to be on at odds on. Le Breuil and Hogan's Height are the two I like at decent odds EW.

In the 4.15 you can just stick a pin in, but I still like Amoola Gold and Ashutor as EW chances.

Good luck tomorrow people.

Don't forget £5 free bet with PP in the first, £1 free bet with Ladbrokes, £10 cashback at Skybet if your horse doesn't win.

Cheers Colin for the comp. Will have.

Hey Gaz you must have missed reading the comp because it took part today and Ken won it with his 80-1 winner but good luck if your backing them

I'll wait until tomorrow before placing my bets in case of non runners but beware that the Skybet offer is win only. If you do go ew it will only refund the win part of the bet if you lose

Morning guys

Couple of big priced selections today and another mug acca of short priced favs.Yesterday Concertista was beaten a short head for the 14.5/1 acca to come up :(

Race 1 (1.20)
7 runners is disappointing for each way plays.
For the win Jamie Codd called Bob Olinger 11/8 a certainty! Does have rock solid form for CH winning combo yesterday. Seems to have relished this step up in distance.
If you want an each way punt Ladbrokes offer 3 places 1/5 odds. I fancy Keskonrisk each way at 12/1(only at laddies for the extra place)

Race 2 (1.55)
Whats to say here, Monkfish looks a superstar and is one for the short priced acca, probably the banker leg.
At 4/11 he is not everyone's cup of tea and one alternative is Sporting John at 11/4 betting w/o the fav.
For me he is best of the rest.

Race 3 (2.30)
Big field and PP paying 7 places.
Janika at 28/1 each way is overpriced at the weights IF he can find anything close to his best chase runs. Big shout with 7 places for each way value imo.
Craignieche 15/2 disposed of him comfortably last time out and if he is not overly put off by the hike in weights up 12lbs he has a great chance also and I would put no one off.
The fav Grand Roi would be a bet but I have twice seen the horse not get up a hill now, once here and once at Galway.

Race 4(3.05)
Chacun Pour Soi is running here for first time, provided the track isn't an issue the horse is a super quick jumper, likes this ground.
Politologue 10/1 is one for the each way punter here imo. Always runs a solid race and hard to see out of the first 3.
Is 7/2 betting w/o the fav.

Race 5 (3.40)
Easyland is so short considering the ground and last run. Obv a fav's chance but I am not going crazy with it.
Tiger roll now no longer in the National is in this again(second to Easyland last year) but has had a very interrupted campaign thus far.
For me Some Neck is value each way 10/1, 4 places.
Former Willie Mullins horse who is a C&D winner and the big danger to the fav for me.

Race 6 (4.15)
Big Wide open race PP pay 6 places.
Ibleo is 10/1 now so a little shorter than I hoped but I was taken with his last two runs and its a positive the horse won't mind big fileds or the ground for me.
Duc De Genievres is a hopeful poke at 33/1, won the Arkle here big weight but the ground is no slog, If he keeps it tidy could def see him sneak a place.

Race 7 (4.50)
I hate this race!
Every year I get tip upon tip for it as they are all relatively new everything in the field is fancied somewhat.
It looks on all known form a match between Kilcruit and Sir Gerhard.
Sir Gerhard will love this better ground and form is very solid of what there has been,
Kilcruit did lose the one time he faced a hill at clonmel on debut but since then, won twice including the same race Appreciate it (hosed up yesterday) and Envoi Allen(most likely will hose up tomorrow) won.

So for me just a token bet
The Skeltons are in form
Elle Est Belle has done nothing wrong in winning twice, will like the drier ground and gets the mares allowance. So she is the play for me each way at 18/1.

So the plays for me are

BANKER treble
Bob Olinger R1
Monkfish R2
Chacun Pour Soi R4 this treble pays 5.5/1

If you want to beef it up Easyland in R5 brings it up to 11.5/1 acca.

Each way Patent/Treble
Craignieche R3
Some Neck R5
Ibleo R6
The treble pays 849/1.

Each way shouts

Janika 28/1 in R3 each way 7 places.
Duc De Genrieves in R6 each way 6 places.
Keskonrisk in R1 each way 3 places(ladbrokes only!)

Good luck all having a punt.

My Lucky 15 for today:

Bob Ollinger 1.20
Chacun Por Soir 3.05
Kilcruit 4.50
Sky Pirate 4.15

I have a few ante post bets running today, Grand Roi @ 14/1 in the Coral Cup and Kilcruit @5-1 ( my only pre xmas bet) in the bumper. I think there are a few really good value bets ew today, I think Tea Clipper will run a big race in the Coral Cup and ew 7 places is worth a few quid ew @ 40/1.
i cant remember the last time Paul Nicholls had a runner in the bumper, so I will have an ew bet on Shearer @ 50-1 on skybet as they are paying 4 places.

Good luck to all having a go today.

FFS what a plank i am.

I too was looking at Shearer in the 450 alongside Kings Temptation (3.40) but their odds put me off as I do not have the cahoonas that Ken had on display yesterday ( for want of a better term :p)

As I said yesterday I will stick with Craigneiche in the 230 and Ibleo seems good value for an each way punt. I can't see Monkfish losing but in the first I hope that Gaillard Du Mesnil turns over the Fave.
Here is my EW bet for today. Good luck with your bets :)

Two longshots

2.30 Nelson River 100/1 (ffs into 66's while I've been writing this up) went up to 142 for a decent run behind Pentland Hills in the Triumph two years ago and was only 7 lengths behind Pic D'Orhy in last year's Betfair Hurdle off that mark. Also only 11 lengths behind Buzz in a very hot Ascot race first time up this season and eased off next time out. Been kept busy enough on the Flat so should be fit but he's in here off 133. In theory that would make him a Betfair winner so really shouldn't be that kind of price, I have him as around a 16/1 shot. 66/1 7 places.

1.55 Tomorrow. Amazed Milliner got in here, but has all the traits of a plot horse. As far as his dosage goes, Milliner has a completely (every box) identical match to Kayf Aramis who won the Pertemps. Think it's worth an EW bet at 16's 6 places. Still like Perfect Man too in the same race (66/1)

Got confident from this message, thanks @colinsunderland :) Made also reverse forecast for Sir Gerhard/Kilcruit for PP offer 2/1.

Bob Olinger R1

Each way Patent/Treble
Craignieche R3
Some Neck R5
Ibleo R6
The treble pays 849/1. All placed at nice prices. The place treble actually paid 11/1!

Each way shouts

Janika 28/1 in R3 each way 7 places. Came 4th for decent return.
Duc De Genrieves in R6 each way 6 places. Nope
Keskonrisk in R1 each way 3 places(ladbrokes only!)Nope.
I did back the Skelton horse in the last each way. Finished quite well.

Kilcruit just doesn't like hills for me.... unlucky @cncas2123
Sir Gerhard stole it early in that race having said that. Great ride and nice type for chevely park third year in a row. Well picked @colinsunderland
Unlucky with the last @geordiecolin. The place in the last would have made a nice return for you I think.
@Flyingslotsman. The place part of that acca came in for you right??

The last was 4 places Ken so I more than tripled my bet. I'm up on my bets over the last few days and I have a winner and 2nd in my evening bet so I'm not complaining.

It's the most enjoyable week of racing all year to me. Even more so if you finish ahead for the week.
Well done. Nice bet!

Indeed really enjoyable to watch this quality races all week, of course something came up and couldn't fully relax with these this week. Maybe next year if these would be covid free, would love to make it there once in this life. Never been in prober horse races (except in Finland but that's back last millennium), think Cheltenham would be great place to start :)

Ended up doing ok. had Tea Clipper ew @ 50-1 and Sky Pirate ew @ 14-1 in singles and ew double, a free £5 bet on Sky Pirate @ 16-1 plus Bob Ollinger in a single @ 7-4. I think RB completely out rode PT in the Bumper, i would have been up a fortune if Kilcruit had won, but it wasnt to be - I think the fact he made up 5 lengths in the last furlong shows how the race was won round the home turn.
On to tomorrow, I am well in front after today, could have been so much better, but tomorrows another day and hopefully some more winners.

And thats why bookies offer cashouts!

Not my bet BTW, no way would I have taken that value
Thats sick. Saved themselves 29 grand, but you need to be prepared to take the kick in the balls if you cash out. They should have done a £50 ew double on the last 2 and at least they would have had a decent return with a profit gauranteed from the cashout.

I've a feeling that at least a few of these will be at smaller prices tomorrow so I have got in early. I may do another lucky 31 tomorrow given the size of the fields

I think Milliner has a really good chance and the more I look at it, the more I think it's been plotted up for this. Certainly glad I put my fiver each way on when I posted as it's into 8/1 from 16's when I posted!

Good luck on the last Col

Without looking I thought you had your eye on the other miliner nag Col?

Edit. My mistake. The other nag is called Mrs Milner

Well done with the 2nd there, thought it was going to get up about a furlong out.
Bloody Hollie Doyle. Who allowed female jockeys :(
I nearly pushed my tv out of the window trying to help it across the line

That is where the cash out button can come in handy during the race because the cash out was very nice at one point

Sorry, switched off after that last jump for chacun, took it so badly I thought, I had a cash out at about £30, so that left me £5 down for today. Gutted my treble never came in, I may have one more go tomorrow, but I'll see after looking at some cards tomorrow on my return trip home, I'm not too far from Cheltenham just now. Currently in Bristol

Probably NAP of the day, so yeah I'd say so. It has fences to jump so anything can happen but it's a great jumper. £275k is a lot of money from £5, technically if it loses he's only £5 down
I wouldnt risk 275k to win another 235k even if Envoi had a 95% chance of winning.
Like you say, technically he would only be £5 down, but i bet it would feel alot more like losing 275k. :p

Yeah I couldn't live with myself, that's a house. Not a barbie one either! Cash out and stick £5k of it on 9p spins on doa2 and still not hit a wildline, would be more fun though

Morning guys,

Todays racing is the first day with bigger fields for the each way punter.
Good luck to that punter waiting on Envoi Allen for over half a million.

Race 1 (1.20)
This is on all known form Envoi Allen's race to lose, very short but very fair imo price.

If you must have a bet a fella could do worse than Shan Blue each way at 10/1 or 11/4 betting without the fav.
Skelton will have him out in front I think and play catch me if you can.

Race 2 (1.55)
Colin already flagged up Milliner at 16/1 into 8's now and I still think its worth a poke each way!
Strom arising at 20/1 is a horse I've tipped up before here and I expect it to outrun those odds again with 6 places, the horse needs cover to get involved late but it could set up that way for it, I hope.

Race 3 (2.30)
Melon 11/2 has a love/hate relationship with the festival four times he's been second here I do believe he has the beating of Samcro, who too often flatters to deceive.

Min at 9/2 I have a soft spot for this horse, won this last year and while concerning he pulled up last time, its not unlike him to bounce back from a bad run. One for an each way treble/patent maybe.

Race 4 (3.05)
As good as Paisley Park is the horse tends not to like big fields
With PP paying 5 places I think there is huge value elsewhere but the one I landed on is The Storyteller, excuses last time but just never ever seems to run a bad race and it may be his turn to win at 15/2.

Race 5 (3.40)

The Shunter is very short for such a size field but probably has shown the most form. Good luck to connections for the £100k bonus if it wins.
I went with Assemble at 16/1 (6 places) here, just need the horse to stay upright. Very impressive win prior to falling twice. I put it down to small fields and hope the big cluster will help with concentration.

Race 6 (4.15)

Royal Kahala 11/2 is 9lb better off with the JF Roseys Hollow this time round and can reverse that form imo.
I think Tellmesomethinggirl 6/1 has more to give also. The form team of HdB and Blackmore team up and the mare is improving all the time.

Race 7 (4.50)

Go Another One 25/1 has not run in 5 months.
This is important because the horse goes so well fresh. Won well twice when back from a break last time in August.
McConnell also doesn't send many here without a very strong chance.(Unlucky to run into Tiger Roll on form in Xcountry race with his other horse Some Neck)
Shantou flyer 9/1 is just a horse who may never win her similar to Melon, but always feels to be there or close by, placed 3 times at the festival previous.

So 3 combo bets in the end

EW Lucky 15 and acca
1.55 Milliner
2.30 Min
3.05 The Storyteller
4.15 Royal Kahala
the acca pays 2895/1 lol.

My Lucky 15 for today:

Samcro 2.30
The Shunter 3.40
Roseys Hollow 4.15
Hold the Note 4.50.

Will do a few ew horses today on Sky with their extra places. I really think that If The Cap Fits is way overpriced @ 28/1 in the stayers, and I like Ask Dillon @ 28/1 to get into the places in the pertemps.
Happy Diva always seems to go well at Cheltenham, so I think she is worth an ew bet today, and I heard some whispers last week about Happy Daze in the Mares Hurdle, she could go well @ around 20/1.

Good luck to all today, lets hope its another great days racing.

Guy didn't have balls to stay on his bet until the end but took partial cashout and now only get something like £50k more if Envoy Allen wins.
Not a bad bet though, stands to win £250k regardless of who wins and £322k for envoi, I'd love to be called bawless with a that guaranteed win

It may not be mathematically correct as such to take the offer. Although it was not far off right imo.

It kind of goes out the window a little as that is a life changing some for most. (For me anyway it's a hell of a win).
So that has to come into the equation. Theres having balls and then there's being practical.

The fact he can still earn 72k more if Envoi wins is making it definitely the right decision to cash out imo.

As it stands he's on £92,950 and being offered the £250k is actually betfairs maximum payout, they don't need to offer the £300k so fair play to them, nice bit of advertising. Glad to see the win, I did notice his account balance is 20k so he must be a good gambler

Either a good punter or scraping every few quid spare together that he has so he can lay Envoi off(before he took the offer I mean)

Either way yup. Jaysus that is some good picking
